This book was released on 2013 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes homegrown violent jihadists and the plots and attacks that have occurred since 9/11. For this report, "homegrown" and "domestic" are terms that describe terrorist activity or plots perpetrated within the United States or abroad by American citizens, legal permanent residents, or visitors radicalized largely within the United States. The report also discusses the radicalization process and the forces driving violent extremist activity. It analyzes post-9/11 domestic jihadist terrorism and describes law enforcement and intelligence efforts to combat terrorism and the challenges associated with those efforts. It also outlines actions underway to build trust and partnership between community groups and government agencies and the tensions that may occur between law enforcement and engagement activities.
Book Synopsis Scientific Satellite and Moon-Based Earth Observation for Global Change by : Huadong Guo
Download or read book Scientific Satellite and Moon-Based Earth Observation for Global Change written by Huadong Guo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-06-27 with total page 641 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global change involves complex and far-reaching variations in the Earth’s systems, and satellite observations have been widely used in global change studies. Over the past five decades, Earth observation has developed into a comprehensive system that can conduct dynamic monitoring of the land, the oceans and the atmosphere at the local, regional and even global scale. At the same time, although a large number of Earth observation satellites have been launched, very few of them are used in global change studies. The lack of scientific satellite programs greatly hinders research on global change. This book proposes using a series of global change scientific satellites to establish a scientific observation grid for global environmental change monitoring from space, and offers the first comprehensive review of lunar-based Earth observation. These scientific satellites could provide not only basic datasets but also scientific support in facilitating advances in international global change research.
Book Synopsis Beyond the Water's Edge by : Kathleen H. Hicks
Download or read book Beyond the Water's Edge written by Kathleen H. Hicks and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2018-10-15 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report assesses domestic political support for internationalist foreign policy by analyzing the motivations of members of Congress on key foreign policy issues. It includes case studies on major foreign policy debates in recent years, including the use of force, foreign aid, trade policy and U.S.-Russia relations. It also develops a new series of archetypes for describing the foreign policy worldviews of members of the 115th Congress to replace the current stale and unsophisticated labels of internationalist, isolationist, hawk and dove. Report findings emphasize areas of bipartisan cooperation on foreign policy issues given member ideologies.

Book Synopsis Systematic Analysis of Gear Failures by : Lester E. Alban
Download or read book Systematic Analysis of Gear Failures written by Lester E. Alban and published by ASM International. This book was released on 1985-01-01 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explores the detailed steps necessary to determine the causes of failure. First, the physical characteristics of a gear are studied: where the stress points are, from what directions the forces are applied, where the movement of material progresses, and where strain patterns exist. Second, all external conditions and forces are considered. With this background information, a systematic examination is described from beginning to end, the end being a conclusion about the mode and cause of failure.
Book Synopsis Toxicoepigenetics by : Shaun D. McCullough
Download or read book Toxicoepigenetics written by Shaun D. McCullough and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2018-11-02 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Toxicoepigenetics: Core Principles and Applications examines the core aspects of epigenetics, including chromatin biology, DNA methylation, and non-coding RNA, as well as fundamental techniques and considerations for studying each of these mechanisms of epigenetic regulation. Although its integration into the field of toxicology is in its infancy, epigenetics have taken center stage in the study of diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and neurodegeneration. Increasing the presence of epigenetics in toxicological research allows for a more in-depth understanding of important aspects of toxicology such as the role of the environment and lifestyle influencing the individual susceptibility to these effects and the trans-generational transmission of these health effects and susceptibilities. Methods chapters are included to help improve efficacy and efficiency of protocols in both the laboratory and the classroom. Toxicoepigenetics: Core Principles and Applications is an essential book for researchers and academics using epigenetics in toxicology research and study. Introduces the fundamental principles and practices for understanding the role of the epigenome in toxicology Presents the foundation of epigenetics for toxicologists with a broad range of backgrounds Discusses the incorporation of epigenetics and epigenomics into current toxicological studies and interpretation of epigenetic data in toxicological applications
Book Synopsis The Evolution of the Airline Industry by : Steven Morrison
Download or read book The Evolution of the Airline Industry written by Steven Morrison and published by Brookings Institution Press. This book was released on 2010-12-01 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the enactment of the Airline Deregulation Act in 1978, questions that had been at the heart of the ongoing debate about the industry for eighty years gained a new intensity: Is there enough competition among airlines to ensure that passengers do not pay excessive fares? Can an unregulated airline industry be profitable? Is air travel safe? While economic regulation provided a certain stability for both passengers and the industry, deregulation changed everything. A new fare structure emerged; travelers faced a variety of fares and travel restrictions; and the offerings changed frequently. In the last fifteen years, the airline industry's earnings have fluctuated wildly. New carriers entered the industry, but several declared bankruptcy, and Eastern, Pan Am, and Midway were liquidated. As financial pressures mounted, fears have arisen that air safety is being compromised by carriers who cut costs by skimping on maintenance and hiring inexperienced pilots. Deregulation itself became an issue with many critics calling for a return to some form of regulation. In this book, Steven A. Morrison and Clifford Winston assert that all too often public discussion of the issues of airline competition, profitability, and safety take place without a firm understanding of the facts. The policy recommendations that emerge frequently ignore the long-run evolution of the industry and its capacity to solve its own problems. This book provides a comprehensive profile of the industry as it has evolved, both before and since deregulation. The authors identify the problems the industry faces, assess their severity and their underlying causes, and indicate whether government policy can play an effective role in improving performance. They also develop a basis for understanding the industry's evolution and how the industry will eventually adapt to the unregulated economic environment. Morrison and Winston maintain that although the airline industry has not rea
