Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the high demand of two of Andrew D. Gordon's blues piano/keyboard books, 100 Ultimate Blues Riffs and the 12 Bar Blues Bible, he has adapted examples from the two books along with new examples into a blues organ book and Ultimate Blues Organ Riffs is the result. There is an increased interest in playing the organ these days as many keyboard players are adding organ modules, organs, software etc., to their array of instruments. This book consists of 96 riffs, in many different keys, and covers a wide range of blues organ styles including Blues, Funk, Gospel, Jazz & Rock. The music notation consists of the right and left hand parts as well as a bass line. Although primarily written and recorded with the organ in mind, pianists and keyboard players will also find the material in this book very useful. All the 96 examples have been recorded twice, the first time with the organ right and left hand parts, guitar rhythm, bass and drums. The second time, has the rhythm guitar part, bass and drums so that the keyboard player can practice along with the rhythm tracks.

Book excerpt: Gospel Riffs God Would Love To Hear for Piano/Keyboards by Andrew Gordon is a compendium of 33 Contemporary Gospel riffs for piano and keyboard players to learn the art of Gospel stylings. There are also arrangements of some traditional Gospel songs including Amazing Grace and When The Saints Go Marching In showing how to incorporate the riffs in the book into these well known Gospel songs. Play in the styles of Ray Charles, Dr. John, Billy Preston, Leon Russell, and Andre Crouch and see how Blues, Jazz and other contemporary styles are associated with the Gospel sound. Customer Comment About This Book: Gospel Riffs God Would Love To Hear I love Gospel music, and so far with Andrew Gordon's books I haven't been disappointed. This book was no exception. And even though I thought Andrew couldn't have gotten any better in his books he did. The book finishes with two songs (When The Saints Go Marching In and Amazing Grace) that provide of understanding of how to create an arrangement from just chords and a melody (using techniques from the books riffs). Wow, this music instruction at its best for a very, very reasonable price. Don't waste your money on anything else. I bought this book a few months ago, and it really does keep you learning. I always want to learn the next song. I would definately recommend this book to anyone who has played 5 years or more. It might be a while until you can play some of the songs up to speed, but it is well worth the work."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the late 1970s legendary pianist Bill Evans was at the peak of his career. He revolutionized the jazz trio (bass, piano, drums) by giving each part equal emphasis in what jazz historian Ted Gioia called a “telepathic level” of interplay. It was an ideal opportunity for a sideman, and after auditioning in 1978, Joe La Barbera was ecstatic when he was offered the drum chair, completing the trio with Evans and bassist Marc Johnson. In Times Remembered, La Barbera and co-author Charles Levin provide an intimate fly-on-the-wall peek into Evans’s life, critical recording sessions, and behind-the-scenes anecdotes of life on the road. Joe regales the trio’s magical connection, a group that quickly gelled to play music on the deepest and purest level imaginable. He also watches his dream gig disappear, a casualty of Evans’s historical drug abuse when the pianist dies in a New York hospital emergency room in 1980. But La Barbera tells this story with love and respect, free of judgment, showing Evans’s humanity and uncanny ability to transcend physical weakness and deliver first-rate performances at nearly every show.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultra Smooth Jazz Grooves for Piano/Keyboards by internationally renowned authors, musicians and recording artists, Frank Villafranca and Andrew D. Gordon of The Super Groovers is a collection of grooves and melodies in the Smooth Jazz Genre creating an exciting supplemental jazz study series for beginner, intermediate and advanced jazz students and musicians. After releasing their first CD “Supergroovin”, which received world wide airplay, they recognized a need in the music publishing business for a series of books on contemporary improvising within the “Smooth Jazz” genre. Andrew composed and recorded all the rhythm tracks used in this book. In their opinion, the melodies were so catchy they couldn’t resist developing them into completed songs. “Mainline Connection”, “Villefranche–sur-Mer” and “You’re The Only One In My Life”, are a few featured on their second CD, “Mainline Connection”. Their CD's or mp3 downloads are available from iTunes, Amazon.com, CD Baby or from The Super Groovers web site. The smooth jazz grooves in this 50 page book feature a variety of contemporary rhythm section styles including R&B, Jazz, Funk, Top 40, Rock, Gospel, Hip Hop and Latin. These stylistic influences are frequently associated with smooth jazz. Popular artists in this genre include, The Super Groovers, David Sanborn, Eric Marienthal, Kenny G, David Benoit, Dave Koz, Tom Scott, Gerald Albright, Candy Dulfer, Wilton Felder, Boney James, Chris Botti, Chuck Mangione, Sade, George Benson, Peter White, Lee Ritenour, Earl Klugh, Larry Carlton, Jeff Lorber, Brian Culbertson, George Duke, Paul Hardcastle, Joe Sample, Spyro Gyra, Pat Metheny, Four Play, The Yellow Jackets and The Rippingtons. We suggest that you become acquainted with as many of these artists as possible by purchasing their CD's or mp3's via retailers such as itunes or Amazon.com. On each of the 20 tracks, the groove is separated into 3 melodic ideas. Each melodic idea (example or riff) is played first, by the piano with the groove, followed by just the rhythm section groove, without the piano. The 1st example is usually the easiest, the 2nd slightly harder and the 3rd the most difficult.
