En algún caso, habría que recurrir a lo sobrenatural para poder explicar algunos de los acontecimientos narrados.Realmente, en ocasiones el contenido de esta obra causa cierto desasosiego y, en general, causa una gran impresión, dado que únicamente cambiando nuestros esquemas mentales acerca de lo que se supone que ha sido nuestra historia, podrían tener explicación alguna de las cosas que se narra.En general, los relatos suelen redundar en hechos que justificarían la existencia de una sabiduría y conocimientos científicos (especialmente astronómicos) en ciertas razas de la humanidad, muy superiores a lo que se supone y, en algunos casos, únicamente alcanzados en el siglo XX. No falyan referenciasa autores proféticos como Julio Verne o San Malaquías, ni al triángulo de las Bermudas.Los fundamentos en los que se basan los 100 relatos parecen, en general, bastante trabajados y se suelen incorporar referencias de estudios científicos que así lo atestiguan. No obstante, el grado de escepticismo que podemos experimentar al leer los relatos puede ser variable, al no estar todos ellos fundamentados con la misma solidez.En todo caso, incluso las mentes más escépticas deben concluir que se trata de un arduo trabajo de investigación, describiéndose acontecimientos o hallazgos que para un ciudadano de a pie resultan, en muchos casos, totalmente desconocidos.Particularmente la considero una obra de culto (quizás por mi desconocimiento en estos temas y en otras obras de este género) y confieso que la gran cantidad de información que aporta requiere por mi parte, una segunda lectura para asimilarla.

Book excerpt: Dante's Comedy is a puzzling poem because the author wanted to lead his readers to understanding by engaging their curiosity. While many obscure matters are clarified in the course of the poem itself, others have remained enigmas that have fascinated Dantists for centuries. Over the last thirty-five years, Richard Kay has proposed original solutions to many of these puzzles; these are collected in the present volume. Historical context frames Kay's readings, which relate the poem to such standard sources as the Bible, Aristotle, Aquinas, and the Latin classics, but he also goes beyond these Scholastic sources to exploit Dante's use of less familiar aspects of Latin clerical culture, including physiognomy, Vitruvian proportions, and optics, and most especially astrology. Kay explores new ways to read the Comedy. For instance, he argues that Dante has embedded references to his authorities in a continuous series of acrostics formed by the initial letters of each tercet. Again, he shows how Dante returns to the theme of each infernal canto and develops it in the parallel cantos of Purgatorio and Paradiso. Particularly worthy of note are four essays on the poem's finale in the Empyrean.
