Dabei sollen nicht nur die negativen Aspekte sozialer Netzwerke aufgegriffen werden, sondern auch positive Punkte sollen eine Rolle spielen. Bringen soziale Netzwerke und die Selbstdarstellung Jugendlicher wirklich nur negative Auswirkungen auf die menschliche Psyche mit sich oder können Social Network Sites sogar zur Bewältigung einer Depression beitragen? Anschließend wird noch geklärt, wie der Entstehung von depressiven Erkrankungen durch die Nutzung sozialer Netzwerke entgegengewirkt werden kann. Medien besitzen heutzutage ein „beträchtliches Beeinflussungspotential für die Entstehung von Entwicklungsstörungen und Verhaltensabweichungen“. Einen Alltag ohne soziale Netzwerke kann man sich kaum noch vorstellen. Ein großer Anteil der Bevölkerung ist Mitglied bei mindestens einem sozialen Netzwerk.

Das letzte Kapitel befasst sich damit, wie Prävention in der Schule und im Unterricht gegen die Risiken von sozialen Netzwerken stattfinden kann. Dazu wird die KMK-Strategie erläutert, zusätzlich einzelne beispielhafte Unterrichtseinheiten, die den Schülern und Schülerinnen Medienkompetenzen nahebringen und über die Risiken und Chancen von Social Media aufklären sollen. Das Resümee wird die Argumentation zusammenfassen und abschließen. Beim Lesen der vorliegenden Arbeit ist zu betrachten, dass hier die Einflüsse von Social Media auf überwiegend weibliche Jugendliche in Betracht gezogen werden. Bei männlichen Jugendlichen lassen sich zwar ähnliche Tendenzen feststellen, jedoch weisen sie in ihren Ausprägungen deutliche Unterschiede zum anderen Geschlecht auf. Zudem werden in dieser Arbeit die Einflüsse anderer Medien, wie Fernsehen oder Printmedien nicht thematisiert, da dies die Arbeit in ihrem Umfang sprengen würde. Aufgrund der aktuellen Gesundheitlichen Lage und der daraus resultierenden Schließung der Bibliotheken, konnte in dieser Arbeit nur auf online Ressourcen zurückgegriffen werden.

Book excerpt: Although Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is a popular teaching method, research on CLIL has nearly exclusively focused on aspects of language learning. Besides that, we are still lacking any cognitively well-grounded theory about the special features of contexts in which the focus is on content learning, but in which a foreign language is used as the medium of communicating information. This book re-examines the basis for CLIL from a cognitive perspective and investigates how the use of a foreign language as a working language influences the processing of content. It summarizes findings from cognitive psychology on thinking, problem solving and conceptual processing, and integrates them with models of language-specific mental activities such as speech processing and text composition. This provides a theoretically well-grounded basis for the understanding of the special features of CLIL, and promotes a Cognitive Linguistic perspective on CLIL pedagogy. The theoretical considerations form the basis for an empirical study that offers the first insights into what CLIL learners actually do when they solve content-focused tasks while using an L2. Through spontaneous verbalization of thought, detailed verbal protocols were elicited and analysed into language and content focused cognitive processes. The analysis shows that both language and conceptual thought interact closely and that a focus on language in general has positive effects on the processing of semantic content; the use of an L2 as working language can enhance this effect. Additionally, the study offers a thorough reflection and new perspectives on verbal protocols as research tools, in particular in L2 contexts.

The authors of this collection seek to fill that gap in the ethnographic record by drawing attention to the deep historical attachments of island communities to rivers, and the ways in which those attachments are changing in response to various forms of economic development and social change. In addition to making a unique contribution to Pacific island ethnography, the authors of this volume speak to a global set of issues of immense importance to a world in which water scarcity, conflict, pollution and the degradation of riparian environments afflict growing numbers of people. Here Leslie Kurke analyzes the ideological functions of Greek coinage as one of a number of symbolic practices that arise for the first time in the archaic period. By linking the imagery of metals and coinage to stories about oracles, prostitutes, Eastern tyrants, counterfeiting, retail trade, and games, she traces the rising egalitarian ideology of the polis, as well as the ongoing resistance of an elitist tradition to that development. The argument thus aims to contribute to a Greek "history of ideologies," to chart the ways ideological contestation works through concrete discourses and practices long before the emergence of explicit political theory. To an elitist sensibility, the use of almost pure silver stamped with the state's emblem was a suspicious alternative to the para-political order of gift exchange. It ultimately represented the undesirable encroachment of the public sphere of the egalitarian polis. Kurke re-creates a "language of metals" by analyzing the stories and practices associated with coinage in texts ranging from Herodotus and archaic poetry to Aristotle and Attic inscriptions. She shows that a wide variety of imagery and terms fall into two opposing symbolic domains: the city, representing egalitarian order, and the elite symposium, a kind of anti-city. Exploring the tensions between these domains, Kurke excavates a neglected portion of the Greek cultural "imaginary" in all its specificity and strangeness.
