The diverse array of contributors present an inclusively interfaith enterprise, investigating a wide range of encounters and perspectives. The essays include approaches from the Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, and Bahá’í traditions, in a variety of geographic contexts. Contributors reflect on Muslims in the West, Christian-Buddhist social activism, and on Chinese, Indian, and Japanese religions. The volume also explores the experiences of communities that are often marginalized and overlooked such as the Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders of Australia and the Karen tribal peoples of Thailand. Contributors examine the works of the Focolare, Gülen, and Risshō Kōsei-kai movements, and integrate the vision of Raimon Panikkar and Ken Wilber. Chapters incorporate discussions of dialogue documents such as Nostra Aetate and Dabru Emet, and methodologies such as Receptive Ecumenism, Comparative Theology, and Scriptural Reasoning. Among other goals, the book seeks to offer glimpses into interfaith dialogues across the world and examine what Christians can learn from other religions and global contexts.

The knowledge about its origins is, however, still very limited. This book presents a wide range of insights from eleven case studies into the early history of several important international interreligious/interfaith dialogue organizations that have shaped the modern development of interreligious dialogue from the late nineteenth century up to the present. Based on new archival research, they describe, on the one hand, how these actors put their ideals into practice and, on the other, how they faced many challenges as pioneers in the establishment of new interreligious/interfaith organizational structures. This book concludes with a comparison of those case studies, bringing to light new and broader historico-sociological understanding of the beginnings of international and multi-religious interreligious/interfaith dialogue organizations over more than one century. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: English summary: As a parish priest and lecturer in Germany (mostly in Berlin) and in the United States (particularly in California) Detlef Schwartz, PhD in Philosophy and Theology, has since 1979 been able to gather experiences that have influenced his concept of a theology based on dialogue. He observed the challenges of dealing with Islam in Pennsylvania. He studied how parishes in Los Angeles went about dealing with the integration of immigrants from Central America. Against this background he tries to find opportunities for parishes in Germany to integrate those people from outside who are open to dialogue. The basis for this should be an approach that sees religion and culture as a single entity.

Download or read book Interreligious Hospitality written by Pierre-François de Béthune and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2010-09-01 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interreligious Hospitality is an enlightening account of one Catholic monk's search for God through dialogue with another religious tradition. Interreligious dialogue will sometimes involve discussions about doctrine, sometimes promote joint action for the common good. But ultimately it is about hospitality: accepting the invitation of others to experience their spiritual practices and welcoming others to experience ours. Pierre de Bethune's engaging description of learning the way of tea" and of living in a Japanese Zen monastery, along with his probing reflections on the meaning of those experiences, shows how the dialogue of religious experience can lead Christians to a deepened faith and a more intense and rewarding spiritual life. Pierre-François de Bethune, OSB, served as Secretary General of al the regional commissions of Dialogue Interreligious Monastique/Monastic Interreligious Dialogue (DIM/MID) from 1992 to 2007 and continues as editor of the International Bulletin. He is a monk of the monastery of Saint-Andre de Clerlande in Belgium. His previous books include By Faith and Hospitality: The Monastic Tradition as a Model for Interreligious Encounter. "

Book Synopsis Becoming Interreligious by : Ephraim Meir
Download or read book Becoming Interreligious written by Ephraim Meir and published by Waxmann Verlag. This book was released on 2017 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume contains reflections on the desirability and even the necessity of the interreligious dialogue and of dialogical theology in an increasingly globalized world. A kaleidoscope of various religions, each with its own specificity and cultural singularity, characterizes plural, open societies. In this constellation, encounters with religious others allow us to reimagine and reconfigure our religious singularity. In the process of becoming interreligious, one dynamically and creatively shapes one's particularity in communication with others. The nightmare of a homogeneous society where the other has no place at all receives its alternative in the vision of a growing community in which one's cultural and religious identity is formed, affirmed, and transformed in dialogue with others.

Violence, and Religion. Musser and Sutherland designed this program, and the majority of the ten essays in this volume were delivered as public lectures in this series. Book Synopsis Beyond Agreement by : Scott Steinkerchner
Download or read book Beyond Agreement written by Scott Steinkerchner and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beyond Agreement addresses the thorny question of how to make interreligious dialogue productive when the religious differences are so large that finding common ground seems unlikely. The book offers a way to think about interreligious dialogue that allows people to stay committed to their own truth as they have come to know it while being open to learning from other religions. It then outlines a way for Christian theologians to enter into a profitable dialogue with the beliefs and traditions of other religions by presenting practical steps to follow in order to keep the dialogue productive and respectful of similarities and differences among religions.
Book Synopsis Interreligious Learning by : Carl Sterkens
Download or read book Interreligious Learning written by Carl Sterkens and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-10-01 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increasing plurality of religions and world-views in western society has major implications for religious communication in both public and private settings. This study is an important step in an exploration of the consequences of this religious plurality for religious education in primary education. The chief concern of this study is the following question: To what extent is a pedagogic model in which pupils are encouraged to participate in an interreligious dialogue adequate for coping with this religious plurality? To address this question, the author discusses the following research questions: what are the cognitive, the affective and the attitudinal effects of the interreligious model for religious education, and can this model be legitimised? These questions are considered in the context of a discussion of the meaning of religion and an elaboration of the aim of religious education within the context of a secularized and multicultural society.
