Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few things get our compassion flowing like the sight of suffering. But our response is often shaped by our ability to empathize with others. Some people respond to the suffering of only humans or to one person’s plight more than another’s. Others react more strongly to the suffering of an animal. These divergent realities can be troubling—but they are also a reminder that trauma and suffering are endured by all beings, and we can learn lessons about their aftermath, even across species. With Phoenix Zones, Dr. Hope Ferdowsian shows us how. Ferdowsian has spent years traveling the world to work with people and animals who have endured trauma—war, abuse, displacement. Here, she combines compelling stories of survivors with the latest science on resilience to help us understand the link between violence against people and animals and the biological foundations of recovery, peace, and hope. Taking us to the sanctuaries that give the book its title, she reveals how the injured can heal and thrive if we attend to key principles: respect for liberty and sovereignty, a commitment to love and tolerance, the promotion of justice, and a fundamental belief that each individual possesses dignity. Courageous tales show us how: stories of combat veterans and wolves recovering together at a California refuge, Congolese women thriving in one of the most dangerous places on earth, abused chimpanzees finding peace in a Washington sanctuary, and refugees seeking care at Ferdowsian’s own medical clinic. These are not easy stories. Suffering is real, and recovery is hard. But resilience is real, too, and Phoenix Zones shows how we can foster it. It reveals how both people and animals deserve a chance to live up to their full potential—and how such a view could inspire solutions to some of the greatest challenges of our time.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God's plan for all of those who choose to follow Him is a life of joy and abundance. However, while God intended us to live a life of health, harmony and happiness, most live a life of stress, struggle and strife. The main problem most people have in realizing all that God has for them is not merely unbelief; it is the inability to escape their "Comfort Zones." Comfort Zones can prevent people from reaching total joy and success in many areas of their lives such as in marriage, relationships with their children and families, on the job, in business, and with their finances. In fact, Comfort Zones prevent people from enjoying a full relationship with God, as they also hinder worship, prayer and faith. You cannot fully receive your blessings until you have stepped out of your Comfort Zones. "Beyond Your Comfort Zones: How to Realize Your Full Potential," by Dr. Calvin Elision (Dr. E.) will take you on a methodical journey from fear to freedom and position you to be able to better receive from God. The 12 Disciples suffered from major Comfort Zone issues as did Abraham. However, they moved beyond those mental barriers and realized all that God had intended for them, and so can you. Beyond Your Comfort Zones will take you step-by-step to detect and recognize Comfort Zones that exist in areas you may not have thought of before and then it will show you exactly how to move beyond them. Backed by dozens of scriptural references, Dr. E points out that the solutions to move beyond Comfort Zones and receive your blessings are all a part of God's Word. However, Dr. E makes it so clear and plain that you will immediately be able to relate Biblical understanding to your daily life. After reading, "Beyond Your Comfort Zones: How to Realize Your Full Potential," you will have significantly grown and stepped out of your Comfort Zones into the great unknown. You will come away from this book with a renewed understanding and appreciation for the Word of God, a heightened sense of love and forgiveness, and the knowledge of how to turn imagination into manifestation.

Book excerpt: What is spirituality? In The Power Zone, author Tony Simpson answers this question and more by introducing and defining The Power Zone. The result is clarification of the protective, empowering realm in which God wants us to live. The Power Zone explains that at the moment of salvation God places us into two different relationships with Him, one of which takes place in The Power Zone. The Power Zone is the only place where the Holy Spirit directs our life. Inside of this exclusive sphere we enjoy spiritual empowerment, fellowship, spiritual growth, production, and effective prayer. Each time we succumb to sin, we leave The Power Zone, and become prey to the three enemies of freedom: the world, the flesh, and the devil. Using a creative array of teaching diagrams, Simpson includes a five-level spiritual growth model to help us understand our current spirituality and where we need to grow. The Power Zone enables us to exploit God's grace provisions for living the Spirit-directed life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For too many years, the academic discipline of history has ignored American Indians or lacked the kind of open-minded thinking necessary to truly understand them. Most historians remain oriented toward the American experience at the expense of the Native experience. As a result, both the status and the quality of Native American history have suffered and remain marginalized within the discipline. In this impassioned work, noted historian Donald L. Fixico challenges academic historians—and everyone else—to change this way of thinking. Fixico argues that the current discipline and practice of American Indian history are insensitive to and inconsistent with Native people’s traditions, understandings, and ways of thinking about their own history. In Call for Change, Fixico suggests how the discipline of history can improve by reconsidering its approach to Native peoples. He offers the “Medicine Way” as a paradigm to see both history and the current world through a Native lens. This new approach paves the way for historians to better understand Native peoples and their communities through the eyes and experiences of Indians, thus reflecting an insightful indigenous historical ethos and reality.

This book challenges you to explore the unknown depths of the soul and claim your individuality, while learning to connect with others in a healthy way. The term "comfort zone" describes the internal sanctuary you create by developing and maintaining your boundaries. Only through conscious creation of your comfort zone can you develop the ability to be present in body, mind, and spirit in order to create healthy relationships. Only by defining yourself can you connect with others. Rokelle Lerner addresses the practical issues of maintaining both your separateness and your sacred domain of connection: she explains how you can walk a spiritual path with practical feet. Lerner has filled this book with her clients' personal stories, modeling potential problems that can arise in relationships due to unformed or violated boundaries. You will learn how to stop boundary intruders and boundary distancers; mend the body and soul; deal with shame; heal emotional, intellectual and spiritual boundaries; set limits; unlock bonding patterns; and sustain your comfort zones while you do the soul work required for further personal growth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Softcover: This book was originally published in England in 1920. The recorder is the Rev. G. Vale Owen, vicar of Orford, Lancashire. The famous Arthur Conan Doyle, someone who had a great deal of interest in Life after Death, contributed an introduction to all five volumes. The messages contained in this book were also published in a daily newspaper by the owner Lord Northcliffe. As such they were widely read, and widely acclaimed. Rev. George Vale Owen was even asked to go down to London to deliver a sermon on these communications. There did not appear to be any significant theological objections from the Church of England to what was set out, and in fact it was accepted that these communications were genuine "inspirational writings", that the Rev. G. Vale Owen was genuine, and that the writings were of great value. It is curious therefor that they have slipped into relative obscurity only 100 years later, even though they were widely accepted within the Church of England and beyond.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A global study of the psychospiritual body and its central role in the esoteric and spiritual traditions of the world • Explains the nature, purpose, and functions of the subtle body • Explores the role of the subtle body in such traditions as Alchemy, Ayurveda, Tantra, Qi Gong, and Yoga • Shows how the various layers of the subtle body provide a map for various levels of consciousness Ancient traditions of both the East and West have long maintained that the human being is a complex of material and nonmaterial systems, or energy bodies. The “subtle body” is an energetic, psychospiritual entity of several layers of increasing subtlety and metaphysical significance through which the aspirant seeks knowledge of the self and the nature of God. In many traditions, the component parts of the subtle body serve as a map of the different levels of consciousness. The practices and disciplines that evolved from an awareness and understanding of the subtle body, and how the material and nonmaterial work together, form a coherent system of psychospiritual transformation that is central to numerous and extremely diverse spiritual practices--including those of the Gnostics, Sufis, Native Americans, Vedic seers, Chinese, and Greeks. The subtle body plays an essential part in more recent traditions such as Anthroposophy and Gurdjieff’s Fourth Way and the cutting-edge science of Ervin Laszlo’s research into the Akashic field. But the benefits of understanding the role of the subtle energy body are not confined solely to the spiritual plane. The energetic bodies provide a coherent system of life-affirming principles and practices for the diagnosis and treatment of the whole person that is not only part of many traditional healing systems, such as Acupuncture and Ayurveda, but also is forming the basis for a synthesis of traditional and contemporary healing practices that could lay the foundation for the medicine of the future.
