Mitarbeiter mit 40 Jahren sollen dem Unternehmen immerhin noch 25 Jahre lang einen wertschöpfungsorientierten Beitrag leisten. Das Thema der Weiterbildung älterer Mitarbeiter steht aber noch immer im Zusammenhang mit Defizitannahmen. Älterwerden wird als ein Prozess verstanden, in dem Fähigkeiten verloren gehen - zu diesen gehört vor allem auch die Fähigkeit, sich Neues anzueignen und Anschluss an den gesellschaftlichen und den technologischen Fortschritt behalten zu können. Solchen traditionellen Auffassungen steht ein neues Verständnis gegenüber: Altern wird hier als Lebensphase begriffen, die gerade nicht durch Stillstand und Abbau gekennzeichnet ist, sondern durch spezifische und vielfältige Entwicklungsprozesse. Die Rede ist dann von der "Produktivität des Alters" und vom "Alter als Faktor gesellschaftlicher und betrieblicher Entwicklung." Beide Sichtweisen bestehen nebeneinander, und sie finden ihren Niederschlag auch auf dem Gebiet der beruflichen Weiterbildung älterer Mitarbeiter. Im Rahmen der vorliegenden Arbeit sollen daher die einzelnen Schritte eines Personalentwicklungskonzeptes für ältere Menschen dargelegt werden. Es wird dabei zunächst auf die Bedarfsanalyse und Zielsetzung, sowie weiterhin auf die Gestaltung und Durchführung eingegangen.
