Book excerpt: Harry is excited! Today is the first day at his new job at the Four Color Balloon Factory. Harry loves balloons almost more than anything! When Mr. Huffy, his new boss, tells him to blow up 100 balloons for Mrs. Doopido's birthday party, Harry can't wait to get started. But when Harry wants to make sure he has the correct number of balloons for the birthday party, counting the balloons gets confusing. And no matter what he does, the number still comes out wrong. What is the best way to count to 100? Colorful illustrations and a clever storyline will help young readers figure out what Harry needs to do to solve his math dilemma. A former music and English teacher, Wendy Ulmer was inspired to write Zero, Zilch, Nada because of her own "math phobia" and struggles with math as a child. She also wrote A Isn't for Fox: An Isn't Alphabet. Wendy lives in Arrowsic, Maine. Laura Knorr is also the illustrator of the popular holiday title, The Legend of Papa Noël. Zero, Zilch, Nada is her second book with Wendy Ulmer and her fifth book with Sleeping Bear Press. Laura lives in Commerce, Georgia.

Book excerpt: Zero, zip, nada, zilch. It's all too easy to ignore the fascinating possibilities of emptiness and non-existence, and we may well wonder what there is to say about nothing. But scientists have known for centuries that nothing is the key to understanding absolutely everything, from why particles have mass to the expansion of the universe; without nothing we'd be precisely nowhere. With chapters by 22 science writers, including top names such as Ian Stewart, Marcus Chown, Helen Pilcher, Nigel Henbest, Michael Brooks, Linda Geddes, Paul Davies, Jo Marchant and David Fisher, this fascinating and intriguing book revels in a subject that has tantalised the finest minds for centuries, and shows there's more to nothing than meets the eye.

Book excerpt: Do you question the beliefs of the religion in which you were raised? Are you "spiritual but not religious?"Are you investigating the role of religion and spirituality in your life?If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then you are a "Seeker," and this book is designed to help you find your way.Faith without Labels: a Guide to Eclectic Spirituality is a self-help book and workbook designed to introduce Seekers to eclectic spirituality, "A highly individualized spiritual belief system composed of selected elements drawn from various doctrines," and to provide clear instructions on how to customize and follow this path. Faith without Labels: a Guide to Eclectic Spirituality is the fruit of a lifetime of spiritual inquiry, study and practice. From mainstream Christianity to past-life memories, the occult, Wicca and Buddhism, the author's intimate opening spiritual memoir makes for compelling reading and encourages readers to examine their own beliefs. Then Faith without Labels: a Guide to Eclectic Spirituality gives them the means to do that through a comprehensive workbook designed to help them analyze what they believe, what works for them and what doesn't, identify gaps and, finally, create a roadmap to their own authentic eclectic spiritual path.Faith without Labels: a Guide to Eclectic Spirituality is geared towards Seekers who may currently identify as "spiritual but not religious" (SBNR) as well as adults who are investigating spirituality in earnest for the first time. In a 2012 survey conducted by the Pew Religion and Public Life Project, 7% of Americans said that they were spiritual but not religious. And, according to the same research, "... nearly one-in-five adults under age 30 (18%) say they were raised in a religion but are now unaffiliated with any particular faith." Since eclectic spirituality has no established doctrine, Faith without Labels: a Guide to Eclectic Spirituality will appeal both to SBNRs who reject organized religion and to adults who are seeking a spiritual practice that meets their unique needs.

Imagine waking in a hospital bed to find your frail, pale arm punctured by an IV transferring fluids and nutrients into your weak, stiff body. What happened? You’re an adult, age twenty-six, and you just had a seizure precipitated by your chronic, secretive, decades-long struggle with unacknowledged eating disorders. You have no friends and no normal young-adult experiences. Living Full is written by Danielle Sherman-Lazar, a woman who passed through the eating disorder crucible to recovery, sharing the most intimate and shameful details of her mental illness. Living Full is Danielle’s story. Eating disorders in young adults are hardly talked about, but are pervasive. Eating disorders are kept hidden out of shame. A groundbreaking 2012 study published in the International Journal of Eating Disorders found that about thirteen percent of women over age fifty exhibit eating disorder symptoms. Living Full chronicles the author’s step-by-step descent into the full-blown eating disorder nightmare and her path to recovery. Recovery comes from the Maudsley Approach, a regimen of supervised controlled eating or refeeding by out-patient helpers that eventually can result in recovery. Book excerpt: On Monday, 4 March 2019, Sergei Skripal and his 33-year-old daughter Yulia collapsed in the centre of Salisbury in Wiltshire. Both were suffering the effects of A-234, a third-generation Russian-manufactured military grade Novichok nerve agent. As three suspects, all GRU officers, were quickly identified, it was also established that the door handle to the Skripals’ suburban home had been contaminated with the toxin. Whilst the Skripals had lived in the cathedral city for the past seven years, what Sergei’s neighbours did not know was that he had once been a colonel in the Russian Federation’s military intelligence service. Back in July 1996, he had been posted under diplomatic cover to Madrid where he was subsequently cultivated by Pablo Miller, an MI6 officer operating as a businessman under the alias Antonio Alvares de Idalgo. Sergei’s recruitment by Miller was one of many successes achieved by Western agencies following the collapse of the Soviet Bloc. These counter-intelligence triumphs had their origins in a joint FBI/CIA project codenamed COURTSHIP which was based on the rather risky tactic of making an approach to almost any identified KGB or GRU officer, in almost any environment – a technique known as a ‘cold pitch’. It soon yielded results; within five years COURTSHIP had netted about twenty assets. Codenamed FORTHWITH, Sergei was betrayed in December 2001. Arrested in 2004, he was convicted of high treason in Russia, but was subsequently included in a prisoner swap in July 2010 and brought to the UK. The journey to the attempt on his life had begun. The Vienna spy swap was the culmination of a CIA plan to free a specific individual, Gennadi Vasilenko, who had been the Agency’s key mole inside the KGB since March 1979. To acquire the necessary leverage, the FBI swooped on a large network in the United States, bringing to an end a surveillance operation, codenamed GHOST STORIES, that lasted ten years. Anxious to avoid further embarrassment over the arrests, Vladimir Putin personally authorised an exchange, unaware of Vasilenko’s true status. It was only after the transaction had been completed, and two further Russian spies were exfiltrated from Moscow, that the Kremlin learned of Vasilenko’s value, and the scale of the deception. For the very first time, a Russian government had been persuaded to release four traitors and send them to the West. The humiliation was complete. As Spy Swap reveals, Putin’s retribution would manifest itself in a quiet Wiltshire market town.

This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author designed his book to be a transformative journey that conclusively reveals one's own "enlightened self-nature" directly, leaving no room for doubt or uncertainty. For those who are serious about self-realization, this book offers explanations, insights and practical methods that can easily be applied without prior knowledge or experience with meditation or Eastern practices. The key teachings originate in the Tibetan wisdom tradition known as the "The Great Perfection", but are inclusive of other traditions such as Zen, that offer insights and methods into discovering our True Nature immediately and directly, not after months or years of study, meditation and practice. The author also studied deeply the teachings of the Sufis in Kashmir, India which revealed the wisdom of the Heart and Love, both necessary qualities in realizing one's true nature. The approach shared is very direct and capable of revealing immediate benefits. The overall goal is the acquisition of a completely new perspective on life that is grounded in spontaneity, freedom, joy and unconditional love for the benefit of oneself and others. The journey includes delving into the nature of thought, mind and ego-self to learn how we create our own suffering. From there we are introduced to our own inner jewel of enlightened awareness and knowingness that has always been present but never or rarely noticed. We then learn methods of how to broaden the "recognition" and how to stabilize and integrate this wisdom awareness into all aspects of our lives. Finally we are introduced to the nature of our spiritual Heart the seat of unconditional love and True Being. We learn how we are all just "one life", and with this recognition we find joy for ourselves and love for all beings. The author has spent over forty-seven years in pursuit of the wisdom teachings that can bring about enlightenment and liberation from personal suffering. As a result his travels to meet actual masters who were themselves accomplished in this path, took him to India, China, Nepal, Japan, Korea, Israel, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. This book represents the essence of those teachings yet are presented in a completely generic and unique approach that anyone can benefit from. The author shares: "It is my hope that seekers of all types may find the realization of their goals fulfilled through the reading and application of the teachings as offered in this book and are able to realize the immediate presence of the Natural Bliss of Being for themselves as I have, and realize: 'Relishing and celebrating life's journey is the realization of Enlightenment itself!'"
