Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This bibliography of semiotic studies covering the years 1975-1985 impressively reveals the world-wide intensification in the field. During this decade, national semiotic societies have been founded allover the world; a great number of international, national, and local semiotic conferences have taken place; the number of periodicals and book series devoted to semiotics has increased as has the number of books and dissertations in the field. This bibliography is the result of a dedicated effort to approach complete coverage.
Book Synopsis The Semiotic Sphere by : Thomas A. Sebeok
Download or read book The Semiotic Sphere written by Thomas A. Sebeok and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 646 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although semiotics has, in one guise or another, ftourished uninterruptedly since pre Socratic times in the West, and important semiotic themes have emerged and devel oped independently in both the Brahmanie and Buddhistic traditions, semiotics as an organized undertaking began to 100m only in the 1960s. Workshops materialized, with a perhaps surprising spontaneity, over much ofEurope-Eastern and Western and in North America. Thereafter, others quickly surfaced almost everywhere over the litera te globe. Different places strategically allied themselves with different lega eies, but all had a common thrust: to aim at a general theory of signs, by way of a description of different sign systems, their comparative analysis, and their classifi cation. More or less permanent confederations were forged with the most diverse academic disciplines, and amazingly varied frameworks were devised-suited to the needs of the times and the sites-to carry the work of consolidation forward. Bit by bit, mutually supportive international networks were put together. Today, it can truly be asserted that semiotics has become a global enterprise. This, of course, is far from saying that the map is uniform or even that world-wide homogeneity is in the least desirable. While our conjoint ultimate goal remains steadily in focus, the multiplicity of avenues available for its realization is inherent in the advent ure of the search itself.

Book Synopsis Identities Across Media and Modes by : Giuliana Garzone
Download or read book Identities Across Media and Modes written by Giuliana Garzone and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2009 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recognition that identity is mutable, multi-layered and subject to multiple modes of construction and de-construction has contributed to problematizing the issues associated with its representation in discourse, which has recently been attracting increasing attention in different disciplinary areas. Identity representation is the main focus of this volume, which analyses instances of multimedia and multimodal communication to the public at large for commercial, informative, political or cultural purposes. In particular, it examines the impact of the increasingly sophisticated forms of expression made available by the evolution of communication technologies, especially in computer-mediated or web-based settings, but also in more traditional media (press, cinema, TV). The basic assumption shared by all contributors is that communication is the locus where identities, either collective, social or individual, are deliberately constructed and negotiated. In their variety of topics and approaches, the studies collected in this volume testify to the criticality of representing personal, professional and organizational identities through the new media, as their ability to reach a virtually unlimited audience amplifies the potential political, cultural and economic impact of discursive identity constructions. They also confirm that new highly sophisticated media can forge identities well beyond the simply iconic or textual representation, generating deeply interconnected webs of meaning capable of occupying an expanding - and adaptable - discursive space.
Book Synopsis History of Semiotics by : Achim Eschbach
Download or read book History of Semiotics written by Achim Eschbach and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 1983-01-01 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume brings together a collection of papers on the general theoretical and methodological problems in the historiography of semiotics. It is not a history in the conventional sense, even though the main periods and figures in the development of semiotics are given due prominence. Nevertheless, it should offer the reader stimulation and food for thought in the critical approach to even the least questioned facts of semiotic history and the emphasis given to hitherto neglected problems and persons.

Download or read book Semiotics Education Experience written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Semiotics Education Experience” is a collection of fifteen essays edited by Inna Semetsky that explores semiotic approaches to education: semiotics of teaching, learning, and curriculum; educational theory and philosophies of Dewey, Peirce, and Deleuze; education as political semiosis; logic and mathematics; visual signs; semiotics and complexity; semiotics and ethics of the self. This is a landmark collection of cross-disciplinary chapters by international scholars that mark out the appeal and significance of a semiotic approach to education. As Marcel Danesi reminds us in the Foreword, Vygotsky construed learning theory as the science of signs. Semetsky’'-s collection should be widely read by students and scholars in education, philosophy, futures studies, cultural studies, and related disciplines. It deserves the widest dissemination. Book Synopsis Regeln der Bedeutung by : Fotis Jannidis
Download or read book Regeln der Bedeutung written by Fotis Jannidis and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2003 with total page 772 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Historische Aspekte literarischer 'Bedeutung'

Book Synopsis Voice and Phenomenon by : Jacques Derrida
Download or read book Voice and Phenomenon written by Jacques Derrida and published by Northwestern University Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published in 1967, when Derrida is 37 years old, Voice and Phenomenon appears at the same moment as Of Grammatology and Writing and Difference. All three books announce the new philosophical project called “deconstruction.” Although Derrida will later regret the fate of the term “deconstruction,” he will use it throughout his career to define his own thinking. While Writing and Difference collects essays written over a 10 year period on diverse figures and topics, and Of Grammatology aims its deconstruction at “the age of Rousseau,” Voice and Phenomenon shows deconstruction engaged with the most important philosophical movement of the last hundred years: phenomenology. Only in relation to phenomenology is it possible to measure the importance of deconstruction. Only in relation to Husserl’s philosophy is it possible to understand the novelty of Derrida’s thinking. Voice and Phenomenon therefore may be the best introduction to Derrida’s thought in general. To adapt Derrida’s comment on Husserl’s Logical Investigations, it contains “the germinal structure” of Derrida’s entire thought. Lawlor’s fresh translation of Voice and Phenomenon brings new life to Derrida’s most seminal work.
Book Synopsis Testi brevi di accompagnamento. Linguistica, semiotica, traduzione by : Donella Antelmi
Download or read book Testi brevi di accompagnamento. Linguistica, semiotica, traduzione written by Donella Antelmi and published by Universitas Studiorum. This book was released on 2019-04-15 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
