So long, being a chef in California–it’s time for law school. In Michigan. Where there’s actual winter. And law school’s nothing like the romantic comedies said it was. Simone is tragically underprepared. Hell, she’s already behind before classes have even begun, and her hard-as-nails Contracts professor is giving her no mercy. Then there’s Silas Whitman, her tall and annoyingly cute neighbor. Off campus, Silas is incredible. Kissable, even. In class, he is one thousand percent the obnoxious kiss-ass. But Simone’s given up everything to be a lawyer. The competition is fierce and she has a hateful professor gunning for her to fail, but she’s not about to let little things like sleep, or love, stop her from kicking law school ass...

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have been living in silence with pain for 14 years. Never could understand why I was treated so unfair and unjust, in the court of law, after the murder of my son. My experience in the court system, have left me staggering, I have lost my faith in the justice system. I am just a nobody trying to tell somebody, about the way I was treated, in the court of law, by high powerful people who you would look up to, for Justice To Be Served. I think my story will make a great spiritual movie, I think my story will inspire and give so much of inspiration to someone in need for someone to hear their silent cry in their voice. I think my story will make a great true crime movie along with, how to get away with murder, why the truth did not set me free? Episodes of a soap opera, I am a fan of the Young and Restless. Black on black crimes and murders. A six month job, a six month resident and a short term relationship that ended in a DNA testing landed me in a court room, a court room where I felt discrimination, I was mislead, deceived and the presence of court house scam was there. Creditably and morale values meant nothing in that court of law I was in. So, here I am, speaking out and pray that I touch someone, to help me, bring my story back into to the light with life once again. A dream I can feel about to come to reality. Oh yes, my Jesus is getting me ready to say, Justice Have Been Served.

Book excerpt: A Gentle Invitation into the Challenging Topic of Privilege The notion that some might have it better than others, for no good reason, offends our sensibilities. Yet, until we talk about privilege, we’ll never fully understand it or find our way forward. Amy Julia Becker welcomes us into her life, from the charm of her privileged southern childhood to her adult experience in the northeast, and the denials she has faced as the mother of a child with special needs. She shows how a life behind a white picket fence can restrict even as it protects, and how it can prevent us from loving our neighbors well. White Picket Fences invites us to respond to privilege with generosity, humility, and hope. It opens us to questions we are afraid to ask, so that we can walk further from fear and closer to love, in all its fragile and mysterious possibilities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Simple Soulful Sacred is a guidebook for the modern woman who seeks clarity and guidance on how to live the life of her dreams, on her own terms. It's for the women of our time-the mothers, teachers, healers, light workers, dreamers, creators, leaders-who are ready to find their voice, speak their truth and own their power, whilst living life with less hustle and more flow. For modern women wanting more for their lives, it's the now age definition of having it all. Women are rising; ready to step out of the cloak of masculine traits that keep them striving for a version of success that is not their own. Ready to stop hiding their light and playing the comparison game. And ready to fully embody their feminine power. Because while the feminine may have been disowned and devalued for centuries, we are so done with that story now. But it's still a paradox. Because within this very rising, women are longing to step out of the noise and chaos, to live more simply. They want time and space for what's most important to them; and the comfort, consciousness and connection that often gets lost in the busyness and distractions of daily life. This book is the bridge women have been seeking. Written with the time-poor reader in mind, this book includes 200 short-form chapters, the perfect length for dipping into while commuting; during a lunch break or at the end of the day. The perfect gift, or self-gift, for women of all ages.

Book excerpt: A fictionalized portrait of Golden Age–Hollywood’s original blonde bombshell, the ambitious star who battled real-life drama as she lit up the screen. It’s the Roaring Twenties and seventeen-year-old Harlean Carpenter McGrew has run off to Beverly Hills. She’s chasing a dream—to escape her small, Midwestern life and see her name in lights. In California, Harlean has everything a girl could want—a rich husband, glamorous parties, socialite friends—except an outlet for her talent. But everything changes when a dare pushes her to embrace her true ambition—to be an actress on the silver screen. With her timeless beauty and striking shade of platinum-blond hair, Harlean becomes Jean Harlow. And as she’s thrust into the limelight, Jean learns that this new world of opportunity comes with its own set of burdens. Torn between her family and her passion to perform, Jean is forced to confront the difficult truth—that fame comes at a price, if only she’s willing to pay it . . . Amid a glittering cast of ingenues and Hollywood titans—Clara Bow, Clark Gable, Laurel and Hardy, Howard Hughes—Platinum Doll introduces us to the star who would shine brighter than them all. Praise for Platinum Doll “A fascinating, page-turning, behind-the-scenes look at what it took to be a celebrity in early Hollywood.” —Lynn Cullen, bestselling author of Mrs. Poe and Twain’s End “[Girard] brings Harlow to life.” —The Globe and Mail “An engrossing look at a Hollywood icon. I couldn’t put it down.” —Karleen Koen, New York Times–bestselling author of Through a Glass Darkly “Jean’s is a moving story of love and hard choices, and she leaps off these pages shining as bright as her signature platinum hair.” —Marci Jefferson, author of Girl on the Golden Coin and Enchantress of Paris “Will entrance readers as Harlow entranced the world.” —Heather Webb, author of Rodin’s Lover “A gem of a book.” —The Historical Novel Society
