Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You've Always Been Wrong is a collection of prose and poetic works by the French writer Reni Daumal (1908-1944). A fitful interloper among the Surrealists, Daumal rejected all forms of dogmatic thought, whether religious, philosophical, aesthetic, or political. Much like the Surrealists (and French theorists of more recent decades), Daumal saw in the strict forms and certainties of traditional metaphysics a type of thought that enslaves people even as it pretends to liberate them. These "cadavers of thought, " Daumal wrote with youthful bravado, "must be met with storms of doubt, blasphemes, and kerosene for the temples." Daumal tied Surrealism with mystical traditions. A devoted student of Eastern religions, philosophy, and literature, he combined his skepticism about Western metaphysics with a mystic's effort to maintain intense wakefulness to the present moment and to the irreducible particularity of all objects and experience. Such wakefulness, according to Daumal, leads inevitably to an overwhelming (and redemptive) "vision of the absurd." Daumal's important place in French culture of the late 1920s and 1930s has been assured by both his writings and his role as cofounder of the avant-garde journal Le Grand Jeu. Written between 1928 and 1930, You've Always Been Wrong reveals Daumal's thought as it was coalescing around the rejection of Western metaphysics and the countervailing allure of Eastern mysticism. Thomas Vosteen's nuanced translation provides English-language readers with a provocative introduction to this iconoclastic author. Thomas Vosteen has taught French language and literature for over twenty-five years, during which time he has also served as a freelance interpreterfor the U.S. Department of State. He is currently an assistant professor of French at Eastern Michigan University.

All nine tales contain elements of magic: shapeshifters, powerful fairies, trees that are portals to another world, and enchanted clothing and armor. Many of the tales also feature powerful women characters, while others include representations of “Saracens.” The tales address issues of enduring interest and concern, and also address sexuality, agency, and identity formation in unexpected ways.

Book excerpt: Shifting Into High Fear Ghost/god Wes Cooper and his not-life partner, vampire Hudson Rojas, have settled into cohabitation in an upscale part of Toronto. So what if their hoity-toity new neighbors haven’t exactly rolled out the welcome mat for the paranormal pair? Their PI business is booming, and when a suspect they’ve been tailing winds up in the morgue, it’s alongside a rash of other shifters in apparent drug-related fatalities. Now Wes and Hudson must connect the dots between the shifter deaths and an uptick in brutal vampire attacks across the city. Throw in a surprise visit from Hudson’s niece—who may or may not be on the run from European paranormal police (who may or may not exist)—and guardianship of a teen shifter who might be the key to solving the whole mystery (if only she could recover her memory), and Wes and Hudson have never been busier…or happier. But when a nightmare from Hudson’s past comes back to haunt him, their weird, little found family is pushed to the brink. Mucking this up would mean Hudson and Wes missing their second chance at happily-forever-afterlife… This book is approximately 74,000 words One-click with confidence. With an amazing seven consecutive Lakeside Ladies' World Championsship titles under her belt, this inspirational woman can lay claim to being the most phenomenal player of all time. But it hasn't always been a victorious check-outs for this Warwickshire girl. Qualifying as a joiner at the age of nineteen, Trina soon set up her own business and had her first taste of making it in what has traditionally been a man's world. Her calm head, keen eye and steady hand proved to be useful skills in this trade - and would prove priceless when stepped up to the oche as a professional player. Always a lover of the game, Trina held her first 'arrow' at the age of two, and after some success later in the Warwickshire County side she went full-time as a professional player. Without any sponsorship in her first year, she struggled to make ends meet as she drove all over Europe to play. But her determination to get to the top saw her make it to number ten in the world, and she finally hit the bullseye in the form of a sponsor. Twelve months later she was number one - where she remains to this day. Fiercely passionate about her sport, Trina has long been an outspoken critic of the prize money in the women's game compared to the men's, and has done sterling work in helping to raise the profile of the ladies' game. Professional to the core, Trina works as hard as the top male players on her game, and is a role model to women in the sport. Golden Girl is the story of a woman whose talent, grit and determination saw her realise her dream. Heart-warming and inspirational, this book will appeal to darts lovers and anyone interested in a story of success against the odds.

With a courageous willingness to explore his own life and the world around him, Oldham dream-travels under the tutelage of a mysterious, inexplicably familiar to him, holy man. Through the Yucatan and Tibet, aided by artifacts, a psychotropic substance and ancient secrets, Oldham faces challenges that move him in and out of common consciousness, much like a meandering river takes one through a seemingly impassable jungle. The prize that awaits him is what all people seek, and every reader will want to take this journey with him to their own enlightening destinations. Beverly A.
