Book excerpt: If I were to ask you "What do you want your life to look like?" What would be your response? Possibly a nice house, spouse, a couple kids and a great job to put bread on the table. Now what if I were to tell you that God wants nothing less, but abundantly more for your life? In reality, He took your desires into account when He wrote your story and orchestrated your purpose. But instead of simply giving you the same life you have in mind, He took the ideas, amplified them, and created a life He longs to show you how to live out. Regardless of where this book finds you, whether you're going through a rough time, have a deep relationship with Jesus, or don't even have a relationship with Him at all, this book will offer a fresh perspective on who He really is, who you are, and the life He has in store for you.

Book Synopsis Property Law in the Society of Equals by : Christopher Essert
Download or read book Property Law in the Society of Equals written by Christopher Essert and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2024 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Property Law in the Society of Equals is an account of the property law and its justificatory foundations. It begins with the common worry that property is an inegalitarian institution and shows that, contrary to the worry, property is actually an essential constituent of a society of equals. Property law is the solution to the Problem of Yours and Mine, a moral problem about the impossibility of our relating to one another on terms of equality absent an institution that allows us to have things as our own. This understanding of property not only shows why property is required for us to have equal relations, it also provides a distinctive perspective on the ways in which our current institutions of property are defective from their own internal point of view and require radical reform. The book uses this abstract account to explain contemporary property law. The book explains private law doctrines including trespass, licence, nuisance, acquisition, transfer, tenancy, the law of servitudes; it also illuminates the boundaries between property rights and personal rights and between property rights and contract rights, and explores various liminal cases of property through that lens. In addition, the book critiques property internally, showing how property's justification requires a state to provide homes to all of its subjects and showing how other parts of the public law of property, including various forms of land use regulation, should be understood as part of the law of property rather than external limitations on it"--
Book Synopsis Men Against the State by : James J. Martin
Download or read book Men Against the State written by James J. Martin and published by Ludwig von Mises Institute. This book was released on 2018 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “...the starting point for anyone concerned with the antecedents of libertarianism in the United States...” MEN AGAINST THE STATE first appeared in the spring of 1953. Within a matter of months it had received nearly fifty highly commendatory reviews in thirteen countries in seven languages. Few products of American scholarly research in our time have gained more widespread international respect in such a short time. This book brought back into view a tradition which almost disappeared between the beginning of the First World War and the end of the Second, the philosophy and deeds of anti-statist libertarian voluntarism in the United States during the three generations which flourished between 1825 and 1910, in a style which a London commentator described as “a model of readable scholarship.” In the 1950s, the era of the “organization man” and almost unparalleled political passivity, MEN AGAINST THE STATE may have been a premature book, as some have observed, despite being reprinted two more times later in the decade. This quiet and unsensational circulation continued to further its reputation, nevertheless. In the last ten years however it has been recognized by many as the starting point for anyone concerned with the antecedents of libertarianism in the United States. The spread of interest in such thinking among a new generation has prompted the reissuance of this book, in a conventionally-printed popularly priced edition for the first time.

Book Synopsis Lyrical Love Lines of Yours and Mine by : Roger Smith
Download or read book Lyrical Love Lines of Yours and Mine written by Roger Smith and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2009-10-23 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Lyrical Love Lines..." is a book of love poetry written from a whole different prospective and much better style than the typical "Roses are red, violets are blue" type poems that maybe you've heard and read. It's chapters are categorized into three aspects: Love, Problems and Passion to either help inspire healthier relationships, aide in decreasing dismay or animosity if things go wrong in the relationship or perhaps increase the desire and intimate emotions for your particular partner. Every reader may not be able to relate to every single poem in the book but should be able to find some poems that fits their relationship, respectively. Also, since everyone's emotions might not be as strong for their partner as some of the poems displayed in the books writings or they might not be able to relate to the entire poem, readers are encouraged to be creative and ad lib parts of the poems to their liking, as long as it is not done with the intention to plagiarize or have self-claim. For instance, since the author of the poetry is of the male gender, the poems was written from a male-to-female prospective but females are free to ad lib and change parts of the poetry to fit their gender. Therefore, explains the latter part of the title "...Of Yours And Mine" because the author hopes that this book will benefit the readers as much as it has benefited him in points of some of his relationships. Although this book would make an excellent Valentine's Day gift, nevertheless, it is a book that could be enjoyed all year long.

Book excerpt: Airbnb facilitates the booking of over 37 million overnight stays per year. Uber operates in 450 cities in 60 countries. Both claim to be part of the rapidly growing ‘sharing economy’ — but what does that actually mean? Here, Tom Slee offers a razor-sharp examination of the ‘sharing economy’: from its genesis in open-source software and media file sharing, through to the present day popularity of Uber, Airbnb, Taskrabbit, and similar services, which operate outside of normal business regulations, taking on none of the risk or responsibility when something goes wrong. He asks, how did we get from the generosity of what’s mine is yours, to the self-interest and greed of what’s yours is mine?

Book Synopsis A House in the Homeland by : Carel Bertram
Download or read book A House in the Homeland written by Carel Bertram and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2022-04-19 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A powerful examination of soulful journeys made to recover memory and recuperate stolen pasts in the face of unspeakable histories. Survivors of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 took refuge across the globe. Traumatized by unspeakable brutalities, the idea of returning to their homeland was unthinkable. But decades later, some children and grandchildren felt compelled to travel back, having heard stories of family wholeness in beloved homes and of cherished ancestral towns and villages once in Ottoman Armenia, today in the Republic of Turkey. Hoping to satisfy spiritual yearnings, this new generation called themselves pilgrims—and their journeys, pilgrimages. Carel Bertram joined scores of these pilgrims on over a dozen pilgrimages, and amassed accounts from hundreds more who made these journeys. In telling their stories, A House in the Homeland documents how pilgrims encountered the ancestral house, village, or town as both real and metaphorical centerpieces of family history. Bertram recounts the moving, restorative connections pilgrims made, and illuminates how the ancestral house, as a spiritual place, offers an opening to a wellspring of humanity in sites that might otherwise be defined solely by tragic loss. As an exploration of the powerful links between memory and place, house and homeland, rupture and continuity, these Armenian stories reflect the resilience of diaspora in the face of the savage reaches of trauma, separation, and exile in ways that each of us, whatever our history, can recognize.
Book Synopsis Iqbal: Poet, Philosopher, and His Place in World Literature by : Zafar M. Iqbal
Download or read book Iqbal: Poet, Philosopher, and His Place in World Literature written by Zafar M. Iqbal and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-02-21 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For most Urdu speakers in the Indian subcontinent, Iqbal has long been one of the most loved and admired poets. Much has been written about his poetry and philosophy . This book stays away from his politics. Iqbal first received recognition in the West in 1920 when his translation of Asrar-e-Khudi by R. A. Nicholson (The Secrets of the Self) first appeared. Most of the recurring criticism was on his concept of Khudi which Iqbal addressed then and later, explaining the basic nature of influence of much older Sufi philosophy on khudi versus Nietzsches bermensch. Several authors, both from the subcontinent and the West, have translated Iqbals poetry before, and in this book have highlighted the positive outcomes over some controversies and confusion. This book presents translation of well over 150 of Iqbals Urdu poems from Kuliyaath-e-Iqbal and about 30 or so from Payam-e-Mashriq (PM), in Persian. Iqbal offered PM as a response to Goethes West-stlicher Diwan, in German. Goethe had long been interested in Eastern (rather, Middle Eastern) culture and his Divan was inspired by the fourteenth-century Persian poet Hafez/Hafiz/Hafis, which also involved some literary traverse through a different religio-philosophical territory. Translation from Urdu or Persian to English across a vast cultural, prosodic, and linguistic gulf presents enormous problems. Section On Translation discusses some of these issues. Although Iqbals philosophy has been covered from by many others before, some of Iqbals own explanation of Khudi in a larger historical Sufi context are discussed here. In addition, Iqbals own contribution to what Goethe called Weltliteratur (or world literature), is recognized in PM (mostly) and elsewhere in his Urdu Kuliyaath. Iqbal not just brought various Western themes and figures to Urdu literature, but presented them, with his own comments and interpretation, to a readership that may have been largely unfamiliar with these Western themes. The Appendices include important recognition Iqbal received in Germany.
