Book excerpt: David, the oldest child in this story, even at age ten, spent most of his young life as the man of the house. His dad left their family, and his mother had to work all the time, which shifted many responsibilities to him. He was always on the inside looking out and wondered when a change would come. Being the oldest child, as in other families with similar dynamics, had assigned him responsibilities that helped balance things out in the family. But in spite of his challenges, David held on to his dreams. Some children dont dare dream or are at risk of losing their dreams. He continued to reflect on how he used his imagination to get involved with other kids and activities and yet stay focused. He really didnt realize what he was learning from his experiences as he grew up. Davids mother did not realize the impact of his experiencesthose that were positive and those that seemed negative to him. He could only dream of a change. As the change came, he began to recognize that the encouragement and opportunities given to him had helped him develop into a respectful, responsible young man and leader.

Book excerpt: Scripture reveals a God who meets us where we are, not where we pretend to be. No More Faking Fine is your invitation to get honest with God through the life-giving language of lament. If you've ever been given empty clichés during challenging times, you know how painful it is to be misunderstood by well-meaning people. When life hurts, we often feel pressure--from others and ourselves--to keep it together, suck it up, or pray it away. But Scripture reveals a God who lovingly invites us to give honest voice to our emotions when life hits hard. For most of her life, Esther Fleece Allen believed she could bypass the painful emotions of her broken past by shutting them down altogether. She was known as an achiever and an overcomer on the fast track to success. But in silencing her pain, she robbed herself of the opportunity to be healed. Maybe you've done the same. Esther's journey into healing began when she discovered that God has given us a real-world way to deal with raw emotions and an alternative to the coping mechanisms that end up causing more pain. It's called lament--the gut-level, honest prayer that God never ignores, never silences, and never wastes. No More Faking Fine is your permission to lament, taking you on a journey down the unexpected pathway to true intimacy with God. Drawing from careful biblical study and hard-won insight, Esther reveals how to use God's own language to come closer to him as he leads us through our pain to the light on the other side, teaching you that: We are robbing ourselves of a divine mystery and a divine intimacy when we pretend to have it all together God does not expect us to be perfect; instead, he meets us where we are There is hope beyond your heartache, disappointment, and grief Like Esther, you'll soon find that when one person stops faking fine, it gives everyone else permission to do the same.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Mission is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exist because worship doesn't. Worship is ultimate.' John Piper's contemporary classic draws on key biblical texts to demonstrate that worship is the ultimate goal of the church and that proper worship fuels missionary outreach. Piper offers a biblical defence of God's supremacy in all things, providing a sound theological foundation for missions. He examines whether Jesus is the only way to salvation and issues a passionate plea for God-centredness in the missionary enterprise, seeking to define the scope of the task and the means for reaching 'all nations'. Let the Nations Be Glad! is a trusted resource for missionaries, pastors, church leaders, youth workers, seminary students, and all who want to connect their labours to God's global purposes. This third edition has been revised and expanded throughout and includes new material on the 'prosperity gospel'.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Before the 99% occupied Wall Street... Before the concept of social justice had impinged on the social conscience... Before the social safety net had even been conceived... By the turn of the 20th Century, the era of the robber barons, Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919) had already accumulated a staggeringly large fortune; he was one of the wealthiest people on the globe. He guaranteed his position as one of the wealthiest men ever when he sold his steel business to create the United States Steel Corporation. Following that sale, he spent his last 18 years, he gave away nearly 90% of his fortune to charities, foundations, and universities. His charitable efforts actually started far earlier. At the age of 33, he wrote a memo to himself, noting ..".The amassing of wealth is one of the worse species of idolatry. No idol more debasing than the worship of money." In 1881, he gave a library to his hometown of Dunfermline, Scotland. In 1889, he spelled out his belief that the rich should use their wealth to help enrich society, in an article called "The Gospel of Wealth" this book. Carnegie writes that the best way of dealing with wealth inequality is for the wealthy to redistribute their surplus means in a responsible and thoughtful manner, arguing that surplus wealth produces the greatest net benefit to society when it is administered carefully by the wealthy. He also argues against extravagance, irresponsible spending, or self-indulgence, instead promoting the administration of capital during one's lifetime toward the cause of reducing the stratification between the rich and poor. Though written more than a century ago, Carnegie's words still ring true today, urging a better, more equitable world through greater social consciousness.

Book excerpt: What if the key to changing your life--and yourself--is already in your hand? So many women struggle with what to do with their daily lives. They feel trapped in everyday drudgery and disappointment, in dull domestic duties, and in mundane jobs they despise. Where is the abundant, purposeful life they were promised? Kari Patterson shows readers the truth: in each unremarkable life lies an opportunity to see, know, love, and be utterly transformed by a God who meets everyone right where they are. Instead of stepping away from real life to find God, Patterson equips women with a six-step practice to move further in and meet Him in the humdrum moments of everyday existence. And when a woman's inner being is truly changed by the sacred, everything in her world changes too--right down to tackling the dirty dishes. Through entertaining narrative, candid real-life stories, Bible study, and practical instruction, Sacred Mundane guides individuals or small groups to discover the beautiful sacredness in the lives they already lead. Women who long to grow in God and make a real difference in the world--no matter how small--will reach eagerly for this book and the radical transformation it offers. "Our daily routine, with its mundane tasks and mindless repetition, is ultimately an offering of worship to God. What a great truth from a great God!" --Ann Byle, author of The Making of a Christian Bestseller and coauthor of Devotions for the Soul Surfer

Book excerpt: Make the change is a unique and timely gift to the world, birthed by the Holy Spirit from countless encounters and fellowships with Him, during the most challenging and trying moments in my life when I was lost and clueless about my purpose and reason for existence in life. These were moments of insecurity, uncertainty, self worthlessness. I knew God loved me and wanted me to be a success than I could ever imagine, So I turned my focus away from the devastation to His loving arms of grace and mercy, where I remained till He wiped my tears, healed every wounds, renewed my confidence in myself and in Him, cleansed my mind and dressed me in His apparel of beauty and glory. I was made a brand new person in mind, vision and purpose, and He graced me with His infinite wisdom to Make the change. If you are in the predicament I just described above, or close to it, or so much more than what I experienced, then you need to make the change. Make the change is for every individual, young and old, rich or poor, married or single, student or employee /employer, and in every circle and field of endeavor, it has no disparity or distinction in the class or field of individuals because every human being on earth will at one point or the other come to a cross road in the journey of life and will have no choice but to make a change.

Book excerpt: All over the world people are the same, and what is even more interesting, we all have the same hopes, we desire many of the same dreams, we share the same emotions, we all share a time to laugh, a time to cry, a time to fear, a time to love, a time to care, a time to feel angry, a time when we are sad, and a time when joy brings us to that place of total happiness, peace, and tranquility; which is a sure moment in time. And the truth of the matter is this, God is on the throne and it is only in Him, through Him, and by Him, that all things are made possible for us. Because He has assured us that He will never leave us nor forsake us. God is a BIG GOD! And whatever your challenge is, whatever your struggle is, whatever concern you may have, and whatever it is that you are dealing with in your life today, there is nothing too hard for God. In God works Through Human Personality the author exemplifies beautifully through inspiration what God can do, and will do for you, when you put your trust in Him. The word of God clearly encourages us by this saying; if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us, and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. 1 John 5: 14-15 And know that there are angels we see, and there are angels we don''t see, this is how we know that God is our comforter, our helper, our maker, and our redeemer, through the many trials we face, and the courage we are inspired through the men, women and sometimes children that we cross on a daily basis. There is no respect of persons with God. Romans 2: 11 We are encouraged to let brotherly love continue. And be not forgetful to entertain strangers; forthereby some have entertained angels, remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body. Hebrews 13: 1-3 How good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! Psalm 133: 1 The Lord said

The fact that I could not get into Heaven on just being good and doing good works alone came into fruition when I totally surrendered my life to God. I was being a good girl, but not a Christian. It was May of 1985 when I committed my life to God (at least what I thought was a commitment). I was still smoking, drinking, and having sex. I was working, was engaged to be married, and was, what I thought, living my best life. However, sometime in August, I realized that I was not living a Godly kind of life. I was on the fence. I was trying to please family and God. Then there was Pastor Gloria Geneva Moses and Bishop Henry Samuel Moses that taught us by example how to live a Godly kind of life in this sinful world. They introduced us to the theater, wholesome movies, bowling, traveling, and different eateries. But Gospel music and Christian concerts were the most exciting event of our lives. Getting to see your favorite Gospel artist, whether music or the preached word, was always a life-changing event. Having them point the finger at you and declaring the will of God be done shapes you into the person God was calling you to be. Had I stayed on the fence, I truly believe that I would have been lost. I realized that I was happiest when giving God the glory. I thank Him for saving me and delivering me from myself. I will love thee, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength in whom I will trust; my buckler and the horn of my salvation and my high tower. (Psalm 18:1-2) So, I begin to write little statements on how I view the scriptures just as God had revealed them to me. For example, Rahab, to me, was a hustling harlot. She was a wheeler and dealer, but she made it into the Kingdom. No one's perfect, but righteousness is in the sight of God.
