Book excerpt: INSTANT #1 BESTSELLER FINALIST for the 2021 National Jewish Book Awards SHORTLISTED for the 2022 Rakuten Kobo Emerging Writer Prize A collection of funny personal essays from one of the writers of Superbad and Pineapple Express and one of the producers of The Disaster Artist, Neighbors, and The Boys. (All of these words have been added to help this book show up in people’s searches using the wonders of algorithmic technology. Thanks for bearing with us!) Hi! I’m Seth! I was asked to describe my book, Yearbook, for the inside flap (which is a gross phrase) and for websites and shit like that, so… here it goes!!! Yearbook is a collection of true stories that I desperately hope are just funny at worst, and life-changingly amazing at best. (I understand that it’s likely the former, which is a fancy “book” way of saying “the first one.”) I talk about my grandparents, doing stand-up comedy as a teenager, bar mitzvahs, and Jewish summer camp, and tell way more stories about doing drugs than my mother would like. I also talk about some of my adventures in Los Angeles, and surely say things about other famous people that will create a wildly awkward conversation for me at a party one day. I hope you enjoy the book should you buy it, and if you don’t enjoy it, I’m sorry. If you ever see me on the street and explain the situation, I’ll do my best to make it up to you.

Book excerpt: * A USA Today Bestseller * Misfit teen Lola Lundy has every right to her anger and her misery. She's failing in school, living in a group home, and social workers keep watching her like hawks, waiting for her to show signs of the horrible mental illness that cost Lola's mother her life. Then, one night, she falls asleep in a storage room in her high school library, where she's seen an old yearbook--from the days when the place was an upscale academy for young scholars instead of a dump. When Lola wakes, it's to a scene that is nothing short of impossible. Lola quickly determines that she's gone back to the past--eighty years in the past, to be exact. The Fall Frolic dance is going full blast in the gym, where Lola meets the brainy and provocative Peter Hemmings, class of '24. His face is familiar, because she's seen his senior portrait in the yearbook. By night's end, Lola thinks she sees hope for her disastrous present: She'll make a new future for herself in the past. But is it real? Or has the major mental illness in Lola's family background finally claimed her? Has she slipped through a crack in time, or into a romantic hallucination she created in her own mind, wishing on the ragged pages of a yearbook from a more graceful time long ago?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the Christian calendar? Would you know how to make an Advent wreath? When is Candlemas? Who was the original St Nicholas? Why do we eat Hot Cross Buns? These and many other questions are all answered in A Year Book of Seasons and Celebrations - a guidebook to the traditional Christian year, which is also a cookery book, a mine of interesting information, and a source of amusement, inspiration, and faith. Living the calendar, celebrating its feasts, enjoying the ways in which they mesh with the natural seasons of the year, gives a new appreciation of the gift of life itself and our relationship both with the natural world and with the customs and culture that we have inherited. At a time when many old and valued traditions are in danger of being neglected, and when families are seeking ways of giving real meaning to celebrations such as Christmas and Easter, this is a practical handbook which provides both the background and the practical information for enjoying the seasons of the year. Written to celebrate our Christian heritage, it can be enjoyed by everyone. Joanna Bogle is a Catholic writer, broadcaster, and journalist. She is the author of several historical biographies, and also, under her pen-name 'Julia Blythe', a children's book. Her earlier Book of Feasts and Seasons, published in 1986, became a popular classic - this new book, with fresh ideas and further information, is sure to follow. She has made both a television and a radio series showing ways of celebrating the Christian year with things to make, do, eat and sing. Joanna Bogle is married to barrister Jamie Bogle, who is also an author, and they live in London.

Book excerpt: University Press returns with another short and captivating biography of one of history's most compelling figures, Seth Rogen. Seth Rogen may already be the most accomplished actor / comedian / writer / producer / director / humanitarian / entrepreneur of the 21st century. From stand-up comedy to big screen blockbusters, and from charity work to a bold new business venture, Rogen is a humble guy with a great laugh. But make no mistake: he is changing Hollywood, fighting disease, shaping public policy, and promoting a burgeoning industry. Born in Vancouver, British Columbia on April 15, 1982, Seth Aaron Rogen was raised by Jewish parents, started doing stand-up comedy at age 12, wrote Superbad at age 13, met Judd Apatow, dropped out of high school, moved to Los Angeles, landed a role in Freaks and Geeks, starred in Hollywood blockbusters, created an international incident involving North Korea, testified about Alzheimer's disease before the United States Congress, wrote and directed more movies, and started a promising new company. This short book tells the intensely human story of a man who is changing the world in a way that no one else can.

Sometimes the smallest of human failings can lead to the greatest of disasters On a wretchedly cold night in the North Atlantic, a steamer stopped in an icefield sees the glow of another ship on the horizon. Just after midnight the first of eight distress rockets is fired. Why did theCalifornian look on while theTitanicsank? As soon as Boston Americanreporter John Steadman lays eyes on the man who stood the midnight watch on the Californian, he knows there's another story lurking behind the official one. Herbert Stone must have seen something, and yet his ship did nothing while the calamity took place. Now Stone, under his captain's orders, must carry his secret in silence, while Steadman is determined to find it out. So begins a strange dance around the truth by these three men. Haunted by the fifteen hundred who went to their deaths in those icy waters, and by the loss of his own baby son years earlier, Steadman must either find redemption in the Titanic's tragedy or lose himself. Based on true events, The Midnight Watchis at once a heart-stopping mystery and a deeply knowing novel - about the frailty of men, the strength of women, the capriciousness of fate and the price of loyalty.
