Download or read book Answering the Call written by William E. Dickens, Jr. and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 1999-04 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues that the standardization of the American military chaplaincy occurred during the Civil War. It shows that the chaplains of the North and South provided the model on which the modern chaplaincy is based. This model is seen in both the regulations which were established during this war and the actual ministry of the chaplains with the men of their assigned units. To accomplish this task, the book traces the history of the military chaplaincy from the American Revolution through the American Civil War. This analysis relies heavily on official documents and reports as well as personal accounts, letters, and diaries. It also incorporates appropriate secondary source material.
Book Synopsis An Abridged History of World Religions by : Rex Lentz
Download or read book An Abridged History of World Religions written by Rex Lentz and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2002-06-17 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Having reached the age of eighty-two years I felt compelled to leave my children and grandchildren a broad, if brief, understanding of the world religions as I see them. I am not a theological analyst but I can approach the subject of religion historically. Yesterday's heretic may have a philosophy that could be a main line church today. As archaeologists dig, scholars study and historians search, it reveals an ever-changing religious structure. The distrust and even hatred between churches that caused so many wars may be easing but has not ended, perhaps it never will. Understanding through knowledge and love is the only answer. It is most important then to first look at the history of religion and gain knowledge as to why, when, and how we created such diversity and distrust. The answer is described in the pages of history. I am not suggesting I can do this better than the fifty books on religion that are on my bookshelves. Rather, my goal is brevity, to tell the story in two hundred pages. This will give a taste and flavor of the subject and may hopefully help to understand a neighbor's religion, develop tolerance and foster pluralism. May God give me the strength, courage and wisdom to produce an intelligent manuscript, in a brief understanding way.

Book Synopsis America's Destiny: Choosing God's Will or Ours (A Historical & Latter-day Saint Perspective) by : Tad R. Callister
Download or read book America's Destiny: Choosing God's Will or Ours (A Historical & Latter-day Saint Perspective) written by Tad R. Callister and published by Cedar Fort Publishing & Media. This book was released on 2023-07-10 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America's Destiny sets forth compelling evidence of America's divine origin and destiny-that it was a nation founded upon divine providence, not coincidence, as testified repeatedly by the Founding Fathers, respected historians, and statesmen. This revised edition also adds numerous scriptures and statements from prophets of God attesting to this truth. With that perspective, America's Destiny asks the question that should be on all of our minds, "What is the greatest challenge facing our nation today and how should we confront it in a way that pleases God?" The economy, national security, immigration, gun control, poverty, racism, crime, national pandemics, climate change? While each of these is a valid concern and deserves attention, none of them strikes at the heart of our greatest challenge, namely, finding a way to build stronger homes and bring about a return to family, God, and moral values. To put our prime focus on challenges other than these is to strike at the leaves, not the root of the problem. It is now our choice and America's choice - to place our trust in the wisdom of God or the wisdom of the world - to be a nation under God or without God. If we become a nation under God, then we become eligible to receive the promise: "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." (Psalm 33:12)

Book Synopsis Such Anxious Hours by : Jo Ann Daly Carr
Download or read book Such Anxious Hours written by Jo Ann Daly Carr and published by University of Wisconsin Press. This book was released on 2020-01-07 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Letters from soldiers to their families often provide prominent narratives of the Civil War. But what about the messages from the women who maintained homes and farmsteads alone, all while providing significant emotional support to their loved ones at the front? The letters and diaries of these eight women echo the ever-growing horrors of the conflict and reveal the stories of the Wisconsin home front. Twenty-one-year-old Emily Quiner sought a way to join the war effort that would feed her heart and mind. Annie Cox wrote to her pro-slavery fiancé to staunchly defend her abolitionist principles. Sisters Susan Brown and Ann Waldo faced the unexpected devastation that each battle brought to families. In Such Anxious Hours, Jo Ann Daly Carr places this material in historical context, detailing what was happening simultaneously in the nation, state, and local communities. Civil War history enthusiasts will appreciate these enlightening perspectives that demonstrate the variety of experiences in the Midwest during the bloody conflict.
