Book Synopsis Wembley and Beyond by : Barry Briggs
Download or read book Wembley and Beyond written by Barry Briggs and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2012-04-26 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It started on a cold, frosty morning in 1951 in Christchurch, New Zealand, with a seventeen-year-old-boy, a crate of sheeps' kidneys and a dream. The boss of the city's Belfast meatworks, had arrived an hour early to set up for the day, when he noticed one of his workers packing up a crate on the countertop. The young lad was battling to move it so the boss went over to help. When asked what time he'd started, the boy replied 'Five o'clock this morning'. Stunned, and amused, the boss told him he'd be earning a good bonus at the end of the week, and wondered aloud what he'd spend it on. But the boy knew, and immediately replied, 'I'm going to race speedway in England.' And he did. That boy was Barry Briggs, and it was just the start of his great adventure. Little did he know he was soon to become the legendary speedway racer more commonly known as Briggo, and later as Barry Briggs MBE. From dangerous encounters in the jungles of Liberia to teaching Steve McQueen to slide a speedway bike, Briggo's incredible story is one of strength, determination and a life lived firmly in the fast lane.
Book Synopsis Motorcycle Engineering by : P. E. Irving
Download or read book Motorcycle Engineering written by P. E. Irving and published by Veloce Enterprises, Incorporated. This book was released on 2017-01-07 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 328 pages, 186 black & white illustrations, size 5.5 x 8.5 inches. This is a faithful reproduction of the 1962 Floyd Clymer U.S.A. Edition of the same title. While the primary focus of this publication utilizes 1960's and prior motorcycles as examples, the reader is reminded that engineering theory and the laws of physics do not change and as such, the information it contains is still relevant today. Consequently, this publication is indispensible to those either contemplating modification to a current model or the construction of a 'special' for any form of motorcycle competition. Predominantly a technical work, it is written in terms easily understood by the layman. While it includes geometry and math formulae the reader will be aptly rewarded if they take a moment to comprehend the significance of the examples. Consequently, 'Motorcycle Engineering' is considered by many knowledgeable motorcycle enthusiasts to be the best book ever written on how to construct, improve, modify and fine tune a motorcycle from the 'ground up'. It is our pleasure to offer this reprint to all motorcycle enthusiasts worldwide.
Book Synopsis The Biological Standard Of Living On Three Continents by : John Komlos
Download or read book The Biological Standard Of Living On Three Continents written by John Komlos and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-11 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effort of anthropometric historians to unearth the broad patterns of human biological well-being has led to the examination of nearly forgotten, centuries-old records from dusty archives in practically all the continents of the globe. French historians in the Annales tradition were among the first to adopt methods from physical anthropology and from the biological sciences, but the real expansion of the field dates from the pathbreaking work of Richard Steckel and Robert Fogel, which launched the discipline of anthropometric history on American soil Research has confirmed that physical stature is related to nutritional status and therefore to real family income, and thus to the general standard of living. Historians and development economists will find this line of research useful, as it informs us about the standard of living of members of society for whom data on wages are seldom available—women, children, aristocrats, farmers, and slaves. In addition, this research has shown that the biological standard of living may diverge from conventional indicators of welfare during the early stages of industrialization. Thus, per capita income is an ambiguous measure of welfare during some phases of growth, and it must be supplemented with data from other indicators, such as physical stature. The essays in this volume broaden our knowledge of the human effects of the momentous economic changes of the last two centuries, extending analysis to regions for which such information has been lacking, including Russia, Canada, Indonesia, Italy, and Spain.
