Book excerpt: There are two primary versions or Samhitas of the Yajurveda: Shukla (white) and Krishna (black). Book Synopsis The Sanskrit Alphabet with Vedic Extensions by : Ashwini Kumar Aggarwal
Download or read book The Sanskrit Alphabet with Vedic Extensions written by Ashwini Kumar Aggarwal and published by Devotees of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Ashram. This book was released on 2021-01-15 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sanskrit Alphabet consists of 56 Letters. There are Vowels, Semivowels, Row Class Consonants, Sibilants and the Aspirate. The Alphabet is called अक्षरम् in Sanskrit. Each letter is clearly enunciated with correct movement of the Tongue. Nasals lend a distinct twang and the Vedic chants are a delight to hear because of Accented Vowels. Reading an Avagraha, Ayogavaha, Visarga and Anusvara is properly explained as all the letters of the Alphabet are laid out threadbare. A section on Unicodes and Typesetting in Devanagari with fonts and keyboard IME supporting Vedic Extensions adds relevant value. While reading Vedic Texts, we notice some letters, characters and symbols that are in addition to the standard Sanskrit Alphabet. These characters are the accent marks, sandhi symbols, additional letters and punctuation, that are found in Vedic Sanskrit. There are various samhita recensions of the Veda manuscripts available today, and they differ in the usage of accents and symbols, and also in the enunciation while chanting aloud. Each ashram and gurukul and pundit or scholar needs to be aware of the tone and pitch during recitation and chanting of the Vedas. Even university professors and researchers delving into the Vedas need to be aware of the correct meaning and application of these verses. Furthermore, as we move from offset printing and metal type setting to the computer and smartphone era, this book serves as an invaluable resource. This book builds upon our popular title "The Sanskrit Alphabet". Infused with manuscript passages from the Satapatha Brahmana, Vajasaneyi Madhyandina Samhita, Samaveda and Krishna Yajurveda to illustrate Vedic Symbols. A useful and complete book for the novice, the amateur or the Scholar.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Upani?ads are rich and complex Sanskrit Hindu scriptures dating back to the 8th century BCE and are a staple of world religion courses across the globe. In this volume, Signe Cohen guide readers through on the thirteen "Classical Upani?ads," those generally regarded as the oldest: Bhadrayaka, Chandogya, Taittiriya, Aitareya, Isa, Kena, Katha, Mundaka, Svetasvatara, Mandukya, Prasna, Kausitaki, and Maitri Upanisad. Where most survey textbooks present a cursory overview of these texts, The Classical Upani?ads: A Guide provides a nuanced but accessible exploration of the Upani?ads that will benefit both scholars, students, and general readers alike. This volume explores the historical, geographical, and social context of the Classical Upani?ads and discusses issues of dating, authorship, and transmission of the texts. Cohen also breaks down central ideas in the Upani?ads, such as atman, brahman, karma, reincarnation, moksa, knowledge, and sacred sounds (mantras). The text also discusses the importance of the Upani?ads for Hinduism and Indian culture, as well as the reception of the Upani?ads in the West. Through exploring these works, their key characters and ideas, and their impact on Hinduism's core beliefs, Cohen provides the reader a thorough but approachable entry into these seminal texts.
Book Synopsis The Yajurveda : with glossary and index by : Devi Chand
Download or read book The Yajurveda : with glossary and index written by Devi Chand and published by South Asia Books. This book was released on 1994-01-01 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Description: The Vedas are the foundation on which the imposing Hindu religious edifice is built. The Yajurveda contains hymns taken from the older Rigveda and prose passages which are new. The hymns display considerable deviation from the original Rigvedic text. It can be called a priestly manual; for it lays down rules for the performance of various sacrifices. It has two samhitas or a collection of hymns of mantras; these are Taittiriya Samhita and Vajasaneya Samhita, popularly known as Black and White Yajur respectively. The subject-matter of both the samhitas is almost the same, though the arrangement is somewhat different. Of the two the Vajasaneya Samhita is planned in a more systematic and orderly manner than the other. It also contains some texts which are not found in the Taittiriya Samhita. This translation of Yajurveda by Devi Chand is based upon Swami Dayanand's interpretation. The translator has provided references in the footnotes to the different views of other scholars. To bring home to the common man the message of the Yajurveda, he has spared no pains to remove all obscurities inherent in the old form of Sanskrit which was in vogue three thousand years ago. The introduction and the index are added to help the reader. Everyone interested in the Vedas will find this book indispensable.
