In 31 Days of Compelling Worshipful Devotions, David W. Palmer helps us sit at Jesus's feet and understand what He said about His Father's heart: "God seeks those who will worship him in spirit and in truth" (John 4:20-24). This one-month devotional will help you to not only understand what God wants, but will lead you to God's throne daily to experience true worship, to give thanks, and to express your praise. As a result, you can become one of those whom God seeks. "I believe this devotional can help believers everywhere grow in their worship and intimacy with God through knowing the truth and having it set them free." -David W. Palmer

We have settled for safe and comfortable churchgoing while God beckons us toward risky and uncomfortable kingdom living. With 'Doxa', McKim shows that God's invitation is greater and more terrifying than any in all of history -Why is ignoring God the riskiest thing you could possibly do today? - Is God intent on crushing your ego? - What is so unpatriotic and humiliating about worshiping God? - Why might a worthwhile churchgoing experience have little or nothing to do with our satisfaction? - Why is prayer a life-threatening activity? Allow yourself to be troubled and moved to action by these and other questions as you enter into a provocative and practical ten-week journey of transformation, discovery, and kingdom advancement. Discover that God has graciously chosen to display his glory in those who would simply hear and do. Download or read book Ecclesiology written by Mark W. Fenison and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-07-25 with total page 1086 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The issue of the church is one of the most divisive issues in Christendom. In this volume, Professor Fenison restricts his studies to Pre–New Testament and New Testament uses of the Greek term ekklesia. He then evaluates the more modern universal invisible church theory in its relationship to the historical usage of ekklesia and in its relationship to the very fundamental basics of biblical soteriology. In particular, Fenison demonstrates that this post-biblical theory is not inconsistent with regard to the primary consequence of the fall (spiritual death/separation) and its only possible fundamental solution (restoration to spiritual union with God). Fenison argues that ecclesiology was never part of that solution prior to the cross and is no part of that solution after the cross. Fenison totally repudiates church salvation in every form but insists that salvation consists in its most fundamental essence as restoration to spiritual union with God, which is affected by the internalized empowered gospel as the Spirit’s creative Word (2 Cor. 4:6; Jam. 1:18; Pet. 1:23,25) without any relationship to the church or its ordinances in any way, shape, or form.
Book Synopsis Tozer on Worship and Entertainment by : A. W. Tozer
Download or read book Tozer on Worship and Entertainment written by A. W. Tozer and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2006-06-01 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "We are saved to worship God. All that Christ has done for us in the past and all that He is diong now leads to this one end." — A. W. Tozer Tozer had strong convictions about the subject of worship, as well as its corruption by what he called "the great god Entertainment." The excerpts in this book were carefully selected to give you a clear picture of his thoughts on both topics: Worship: Unacceptable Worship, Spiritual Concentration, The Presence of God, the Power of God, Personal Communion, Adoration, Hymns Entertainment: Evangelical Heresy, Propoganda, An Outward Shift, Modern Evangelism, Religious Activity, Worldliness Also included are Tozer's sermon "The Act and Object of Worship" in its entiretiy and his controversial essay "The Menace of the Religious Movie," written in the mid-1950s. You might not agree with all that Tozer says, but, as always, he draws a line in the sand and causes us to think critically about what is and isn't worship, and if what we are doing is truly worship.
Book Synopsis Commodified Communion by : Antonio Eduardo Alonso
Download or read book Commodified Communion written by Antonio Eduardo Alonso and published by Fordham University Press. This book was released on 2021-06-01 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Resist! This exhortation animates a remarkable range of theological reflection on consumer culture in the United States. And for many theologians, the source and summit of Christian cultural resistance is the Eucharist. In Commodified Communion, Antonio Eduardo Alonso calls into question this dominant mode of theological reflection on contemporary consumerism. Reducing the work of theology to resistance and centering Christian hope in a Eucharist that might better support it, he argues, undermines our ability to talk about the activity of God within a consumer culture. By reframing the question in terms of God’s activity in and in spite of consumer culture, this book offers a lived theological account of consumer culture that recognizes not only its deceptions but also traces of truth in its broken promises and fallen hopes.

Book Synopsis Recovering Mother Kirk by : Darryl Glen Hart
Download or read book Recovering Mother Kirk written by Darryl Glen Hart and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2014-03-07 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Endorsements: "Liturgical Presbyterians? No, this is not an oxymoron. D. G. Hart has written a lively polemic against the well-intentioned dumbing-down of worship by advocates of church growth. This book is going to make some people very mad, and it will make others very glad. Those who have thrown away the theological substance of the great Reformed tradition of Christian worship ought to be mad. Hart shames them. And yet, for those whose privilege it is to praise and serve God in a church that enjoys the Reformed way of worship in all its depth, glory, and joy, this book is a great summons to faithfulness in our time." --WILLIAM H. WILLIMON, Duke Divinity School "Beginning to realize just how much they have been shaped by non-Reformed influences, conservative Presbyterian and Reformed churches are now being forced to decide between a generic 'low-church' Protestantism, a 'high church' tradition, or, oddly enough, a more traditional Reformed and Presbyterian approach. D. G. Hart believes that Reformed theology provides resources not only for understanding that we are saved, but also for how we worship and mature in the Christian faith. There's a lot of wisdom here, and whether one agrees or disagrees with Hart, his well-considered arguments cannot be responsibly ignored by adherents of Reformed Christianity." --MICHAEL HORTON, Editor in Chief, Modern Reformation "Unabashedly writing to inform, rouse, and serve his fellow Presbyterians, D. G. Hart has nonetheless produced a book that is properly and profoundly ecumenical. Christians from all communions who take seriously the identity and nature of the church will learn from Hart's analysis of the complex arrangement under God of cult and culture, form and content, church and state, praise and proclamation, cross and crown. Hart reminds us that the chronicles of the people of God always offer encouragement to strengthen feeble arms, weak knees, and lazy minds." --KEN MYERS, host and producer of the Mars Hill Audio Journal "Hart's book combines world-class scholarship with keen social and ecclesiastical awareness and should be read and reread by those who want to transmit the piety and ethos of the Reformed tradition to the next generation." --TERRY L. JOHNSON, Independent Presbyterian Church, Savannah, Georgia
