Book Synopsis World War II Aviation Artwork by : Joe Glyda
Download or read book World War II Aviation Artwork written by Joe Glyda and published by . This book was released on 2021-06-08 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: World War II Aviation Artwork, and the stories behind these beautiful birds, is a curated collection of WWII aircraft photography and artwork. During my first WWII airplane photography session, I desired more than an ordinary photograph. I felt the necessity to create works of art from the thirty four vintage aircraft that I had photographed. By applying my digital imaging and commercial photography skills, I created this unique photographic/artistic process. Besides the artwork, I researched, discovered, and acquired historical images, aircraft specifications, unfamiliar background information and a few personal stories of some of the people that kept these planes flying.Even though these WWII planes were instrumental in the war, I was inspired to showcase the ingenuity of early aviation. It was and still is amazing to me how many different types of aircraft were built in such a short period of time. Modifications and upgrades were constantly being applied to these aircraft between 1939 and 1945. I wanted to portray that innovation and creativity of Aviation during a difficult time in our history through my artistic abilities. This reader-friendly book utilizes the Times Roman font in a larger than normal font size for easy reading as well. For the same reason the gutter or enlarged center area was used to keep the pages flat while observing the artwork. The unique aircraft artwork I have created for WWII Aviation Artwork and the Stories Behind These Beautiful Birds, has been combined with historical images, and enhanced with personal WWII stories from survivors of the war, to bring you a coffee table book you will enjoy reading and re-reading while sharing with your friends and loved ones.

Book excerpt: A military historian explores these mammoth warships. A great gift for WWII buffs. Though the aircraft carrier has become the cornerstone of the modern fleet, it is a relative newcomer to the world of navy vessels. It wasn’t until World War II that the carrier’s outstanding effectiveness forever altered the future of naval warfare. Through gripping historical anecdotes and breathtaking paintings by the most respected aviation and military artists, this crucial period lives again. Begin with the earliest demonstrations of planes flying from and landing on a vessel at sea and the carrier’s evolution in the period between the wars. The British, Japanese, and US fleets all obtained true carriers, with their numbers growing by leaps and bounds by the onset of World War II—especially in America, which had the largest of all. Written by a renowned military historian, packed with thrilling accounts of daring missions, and illustrated with stirring aviation art, here is a unique look at one of the most effective weapons platforms in the world.

Book Synopsis When Art Keep 'Em Flying by : Georges Grod
Download or read book When Art Keep 'Em Flying written by Georges Grod and published by Casemate Publishers. This book was released on 2010-06-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: American WWII Aviation seen through advertising. In 1944 George Grod, a strip cartoon, modeling and aviation enthusiast, discovered with amazement some American magazines which an MP billeted near his village lent him. What he liked best were the gleaming advertisements scattered throughout the pages. In the eighties, during an "old papers" fair George came across some old numbers of Life Magazine. Nothing had changed; his emotion was still there intact. He started an unbridled search for original magazines dating back to between 1942 and 1945. For many long years, he tried to find out more about these obscure illustrators. All this now came together once again all so naturally in this search in which we see the return of all his great themes - aviation, kits, cartoon strips, the love of art and even the cinema. The book is not seeking to be a mere collection of beautiful pictures all strung together or a sample from a huge collection; it is above all the testimonial of a period, the reflection of that immense war effort the American people made during the last World War, seen through the kaleidoscope of publicity.

Book Synopsis Aircraft Nose Art by : Andretta Schellinger
Download or read book Aircraft Nose Art written by Andretta Schellinger and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2016-02-26 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since World War I, nose art has adorned military aircraft around the world. Intended for friendly rather than enemy eyes, these images--with a wide range of artistic expression--are part of the personal and unit histories of pilots and aircrews. As civilian and military attitudes and rationales for war change from one conflict to the next, changes can also be seen in the iconography of nose art. This analysis from a cultural perspective compares nose art in the United States, Great Britain and France from World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
Book Synopsis RAF and RCAF Aircraft Nose Art in World War II by : Clarence Simonsen
Download or read book RAF and RCAF Aircraft Nose Art in World War II written by Clarence Simonsen and published by Specialty Press (MN). This book was released on 2001-06 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 9 x 12 256 pgs 400 b&w photos 16 pgs of detailed color drawingsMilitary aircraft decorated with gaudy personalized artwork, usually of the ribald and risqui variety, are generally associated with American bombers and fighters, most of which flew by day. In contrast, those of their allies in the RAF and RCAF, especially the nocturnal bombers, are usually perceived as being sober and dull. That this was far from being the case is revealed in this photographic study that shows that the men who flew aircraft wearing roundels could be just as imaginative in decorating their machines. The results were as varied as the skills of the mostly untrained artists, who used all manner of sources as their inspiration, but especially pinup pictures by Vargas and Petty. The author not only shows the finished nose (and tail) art of many aircraft, but also pays tribute to many of their crews. To do so he has enlisted the aid of a number of the men responsible for painting the aircraft, as well as the assistance of Walt Disney studios--and the model who was the original 'Petty Girl'. This work includes hundreds of close-up pictures of artwork on many different types of aircraft: Lancaster, Halifax, Mosquito, Beaufighter, Spitfire and Hurricane among them--in many cases accompanied by the story of the aircraft and crew as well. Detailed color artwork by the author and Jon Field show many of these emblems and the rest of the aircraft markings.
