Book Synopsis Wood aeromodelling by : Franz Kayser
Download or read book Wood aeromodelling written by Franz Kayser and published by Verlag für Technik und Handwerk. This book was released on with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is fascinating when it smells of wood and glue and a new flying model gradually emerges on the building board. In the process, you learn a lot about wood as a building material, about building techniques and, incidentally, about construction methods. So that the whole thing doesn't get bogged down in theory, the material and construction techniques are used in this book on a real flying model, to which the author has given the name "WOODY", which means "the wooden one". Without a lot of mathematics and formulas, Franz Kayser explains the various construction principles applied, based on his experience with wood as a building material. From the content: • Small wood encyclopaedia • Weight and strength • Material strength and breaking moment • Quarter and other grains • Effects of grain direction • EWD – the setting angle difference • Centre of gravity position and stall • Auxiliary construction of the slipway • Planking and edge curves • Wing stitching • Servo installation in the wing • The right tailplane • Building a tailplane • A suitable fuselage • The cowl • Hinges for the WOODY • Landing gear construction • Self-built canopy • Building and flying • Extensive appendix

Book Synopsis The Fourth IIT by : Surya Pratap Mehrotra
Download or read book The Fourth IIT written by Surya Pratap Mehrotra and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2015-11-10 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fourth IIT traces the historical evolution of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK), established fourth in the chronological ladder of IITs after the institutes at Kharagpur, Bombay and Madras. The early beginnings of IITK are explored, with the appointment of Dr P.K. Kelkar as its founder-director, its humble commencement in the temporary premises of Harcourt Butler Technological Institute (HBTI) and the initiation of a traditional BTech programme. We see how rapid transformations enabled the institute to introduce and nurture a new academic culture in the country, illustrated by the paradigm shift in higher technical education and the freshness of a new spirit in higher education in general—the spirit of IITK. An inventive approach to faculty appointments, student admissions and the development of a novel academic structure are some of the deeply appreciated attributes that IITK has epitomized—and striven for. The book also captures IITK in the present times, in its pursuit of continually improving the material life of its students, staff members and the faculty, and the veritably important role played by the alumni, and also sheds light on the ‘new vision’ of the institute. Expertly and lovingly written by IITK insiders and long-timers, The Fourth IIT is ideal for past and present students and educators, and for anyone interested in an in-depth analysis of one of the most beloved and respected academic institutions in the country.

Download or read book The Night of the Triffids written by Simon Clark and published by Robinson. This book was released on 2014-08-07 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In John Wyndham?s classic bestsellerThe Day of the Triffids the world has been overwhelmed by killer plants that have blinded almost the entire population. As the novel ends, Wyndham?s narrator scientist Bill Masen is escaping, with his wife and four-year-old son, to the Isle of Wight where a small colony of survivors is holding out. Simon Clark?s sequels picks up the story twenty-five years on. The survivors are safe, for the time being at least, on their island, where they have continued efforts to combat the triffids, while also striving in various ways to build a new civilization ? in a Mother House, for example, women spend their lives endlessly giving birth. Elsewhere in the world, similar colonies cling to survival, while the triffids persist in their attempts to destroy humanity. One morning Bill Masen?s son, David, now grown up, wakes to a world plunged into darkness. Now, the triffids have an advantage over even sighted humanity. Simon Clark has written an inventive and fast-moving sequel to Wyndham?s story, crafting an elegant and scary tale of humanity?s ongoing fightback against the triffids.

Book excerpt: Although the first air cadet unit was raised in Bournmouth in 1928, the first squadrons to be formed in a privately funded national organisation were part of the Air Defence Cadet Corps in 1938. Thousands of youngsters joined and were able to learn about aircraft, aerodynamics, navigation, mechanics and other subjects not taught in schools. The organization was to become known as The Air Training Corps (ATC) and as war loomed it was considered a useful RAF recruitment tool to attract potential airmen and ground crew. Throughout the war ATC cadets supported the home defences by fire watching, as messengers and as observers, working alongside the Home Guard, the fire services and other vital organisations. During the second half of the 1900s the corps continued to thrive. Girls were now included and retired RAF officers and other ranks continued to take an active part in each squadron. There are now over 900 squadrons within the UK, providing the same skills to modern youth and teaching them the importance of personal responsibility and teamwork via annual camps at RAF stations, adventure training and flight experience. This book looks at all aspects of the Air Cadet's history and tradition, including the RAF sections of the Combined Cadet Force attached to public and grammar schools. It concludes with an analysis of what subjects and courses are currently available with many past and present illustrations. As seen in The York Press and The Scarborough News.

The sources of air drag and how to minimize their impact. ADVANCE PRAISE "This book is a joy to read! The writing style and wit add dimension in a way that is rarely found in today's reference materials. If someone has considered designing their own airplane and been put off because of complicated formulas, vocabulary and reference style that would bore even an engineer, this will convince them to go ahead and try it. Written with real people in mind and not engineers - and I mean that in a good way. This is a book that will reside along the other favorites on my bookshelf. Carlos really managed to produce a book that will last a long time and become one of the standards for modelers." - Greg Gimlick, Electrics columnist, Model Aviation magazine "RCAdvisor's Model Airplane Design Made Easy is the ultimate model airplane design book for both beginning and experienced modelers." - Richard Kline, Inventor, KFm airfoils "RCadvisor's Model Airplane Design Made Easy is a real contribution to the world's literature on the subject. It provides an excellent bridge between full scale aviation and aeromodeling, showing the relationship between the two, for better understanding of the differences and similarities which should be applied for good model performance. While thorough in detail, the book is also easily readable so that the information is simple to understand. It is a very good combination of theory and practical application. Nicely illustrated, the book is also full of common sense explanations and references to other sources of information." - John Worth, former President and Executive Director of the AMA "Carlos Reyes personably leads the reader through some basic aerodynamics, materials considerations, electric power system planning and a practical application of theory as it is applied to a finished flying model. The background history of various types of aircraft shows the development of aviation and how it relates to the models that we build and fly today, as well as how models have influenced general aviation. It is always exciting to find some 'new to me' concepts and theories, and there were several in this well-written narrative." - Ken Myers, Editor, Ampeer electric flight newsletter "No matter how long you've been aeromodelling, or what your interests are in our great hobby, the greatest thrill of all is standing behind a unique model that you've designed and built yourself, from a blank sheet of paper - or even a blank CAD file - and preparing to make that first take off. So sit yourself down in a comfy chair, read RCadvisor's Model Airplane Design Made Easy and set off on aeromodelling's greatest adventure. Let Carlos Reyes - an aeromodeller of long standing and great talent - take you through the mysteries of how to arrive at the point that every lover of model aircraft should experience." - Dereck Woodward, aeromodeller, designer and magazine writer for the past fifty years
