Book Synopsis The English of Savitri by : Shraddhavan
Download or read book The English of Savitri written by Shraddhavan and published by Auro e-Books. This book was released on 2015-02-24 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1980, Shraddhavan has been teaching English in Auroville through close readings of Sri Aurobindo’s revelatory epic Savitri: a legend and a symbol. In August 1998 these classes were resumed at Savitri Bhavan, with a growing number of students, including young Tamil teacher-trainees from the Arul Vazhi School located in Promesse, Auroville. These classes were given the name ‘The English of Savitri’ and they concluded in May of 2009 as this group reached the end of the poem. This book is based on the transcripts of a new series of classes given by Shraddhavan between August 2009 and October 2010, which have been edited for conciseness and clarity, while aiming to preserve some of the informal atmosphere of the course. Edited transcripts of these classes began to be published serially in the Bhavan’s journal of Study Notes on Savitri, ‘Invocation’, from issue 32 onwards, since it was felt that they may be of interest to a wider audiance. They are now being published in book form in several volumes by Yukta Prakashan publishers of Vadodara. This suggested the idea of collecting the original English articles into a book form as well. This is the first such volume, covering all the five cantos of Book One of the poem, ‘The Book of Beginnings’.

For all the 10 years of her life, H&à has only known Saigon: the thrills of its markets, the joy of its traditions, the warmth of her friends close by, and the beauty of her very own papaya tree. But now the Vietnam War has reached her home. H&à and her family are forced to flee as Saigon falls, and they board a ship headed toward hope. In America, H&à discovers the foreign world of Alabama: the coldness of its strangers, the dullness of its food, the strange shape of its landscape, and the strength of her very own family. This is the moving story of one girl's year of change, dreams, grief, and healing as she journeys from one country to another, one life to the next.
Download or read book Mother II written by L A Westfall and published by Chipmunkapublishing ltd. This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Description'Mother II' is the brave follow up to 'Mother', LA Westfall's equally brave and revealing book on childhood abuse and depression. 'Mother II' brings the story up-to-date and focuses on how a childhood of abuse can affect the abused in adulthood. This is the autobiography of a caring woman, with a loving family, and her struggle to see life through joy rather than pain. Her schizophrenia wakes with her each day in the form of her biological mother's voice. Only the love with which she is provided keeps her breathing. About the AuthorI was born in London in the year 1962. I grew up spending most of my life in Essex, first with abusive parents then in care homes, until I was seventeen. I found fantastic foster parents who loved me like their own. I learnt to love and be loved too. I met and married a wonderful man and sixteen years later he is not only my husband, but my very best friend. Together we have a son Richard, and a daughter Nikki. Family means everything to us. I suffered with mental illness from a very young age. But with the support of my family I always came through the other side. If by writing this book I can help just one child, then reliving it would have been worth while.

Fans of Jacqueline Woodson, Meg Medina, and Jason Reynolds will fall hard for this astonishing New York Times-bestselling novel-in-verse by an award-winning slam poet, about an Afro-Latina heroine who tells her story with blazing words and powerful truth. Xiomara Batista feels unheard and unable to hide in her Harlem neighborhood. Ever since her body grew into curves, she has learned to let her fists and her fierceness do the talking. But Xiomara has plenty she wants to say, and she pours all her frustration and passion onto the pages of a leather notebook, reciting the words to herself like prayers—especially after she catches feelings for a boy in her bio class named Aman, who her family can never know about. With Mami’s determination to force her daughter to obey the laws of the church, Xiomara understands that her thoughts are best kept to herself. So when she is invited to join her school’s slam poetry club, she doesn’t know how she could ever attend without her mami finding out. But she still can’t stop thinking about performing her poems. Because in the face of a world that may not want to hear her, Xiomara refuses to be silent. “Crackles with energy and snaps with authenticity and voice.” —Justina Ireland, author of Dread Nation “An incredibly potent debut.” —Jason Reynolds, author of the National Book Award Finalist Ghost “Acevedo has amplified the voices of girls en el barrio who are equal parts goddess, saint, warrior, and hero.” —Ibi Zoboi, author of American Street This young adult novel, a selection of the Schomburg Center's Black Liberation Reading List, is an excellent choice for accelerated tween readers in grades 6 to 8. Book Synopsis Fifty Words for Rain by : Asha Lemmie
Download or read book Fifty Words for Rain written by Asha Lemmie and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2021-06-08 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Good Morning America Book Club Pick and New York Times Bestseller! From debut author Asha Lemmie, “a lovely, heartrending story about love and loss, prejudice and pain, and the sometimes dangerous, always durable ties that link a family together.” —Kristin Hannah, #1 New York Times–bestselling author of The Nightingale Kyoto, Japan, 1948. “Do not question. Do not fight. Do not resist.” Such is eight-year-old Noriko “Nori” Kamiza’s first lesson. She will not question why her mother abandoned her with only these final words. She will not fight her confinement to the attic of her grandparents’ imperial estate. And she will not resist the scalding chemical baths she receives daily to lighten her skin. The child of a married Japanese aristocrat and her African American GI lover, Nori is an outsider from birth. Her grandparents take her in, only to conceal her, fearful of a stain on the royal pedigree that they are desperate to uphold in a changing Japan. Obedient to a fault, Nori accepts her solitary life, despite her natural intellect and curiosity. But when chance brings her older half-brother, Akira, to the estate that is his inheritance and destiny, Nori finds in him an unlikely ally with whom she forms a powerful bond—a bond their formidable grandparents cannot allow and that will irrevocably change the lives they were always meant to lead. Because now that Nori has glimpsed a world in which perhaps there is a place for her after all, she is ready to fight to be a part of it—a battle that just might cost her everything. Spanning decades and continents, Fifty Words for Rain is a dazzling epic about the ties that bind, the ties that give you strength, and what it means to be free.

We were proud to welcome participants from more than 40 countries from all over the world to this year’s ICCHP. Since the late 1980s, it has been ICCHP’s mission to support and reflect development in the field of “Assistive Technologies,” eAccessibility and eInclusion. With a focus on scientific quality, ICCHP has become an important reference in our field. The 2010 conference and this collection of papers once again fulfilled this mission. The International Programme Committee, comprising 106 experts from all over the world, selected 147 full and 44 short papers out of 328 abstracts submitted to ICCHP. This acceptance ratio of about half of the submissions demonstrates our strict pursuit of scientific quality both of the programme and in particular of the proceedings in your hands. An impressive number of experts agreed to organize “Special Thematic Sessions” (STS) for ICCHP 2010. These STS help to bring the meeting into sharper focus in several key areas. In turn, this deeper level of focus helps to collate a state of the art and mainstream technical, social, cultural and political developments.

Book Synopsis 7 Greatest Words of the Greatest Man Ever Lived by : Rev. Dr. T. P. Samuel Stuart
Download or read book 7 Greatest Words of the Greatest Man Ever Lived written by Rev. Dr. T. P. Samuel Stuart and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2024-03-18 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author has been preaching on these seven Words of Christ from the cross for more than 50 years, on Good Fridays, in various Churches, including the Holy Trinity English Church (CSI), at Tuticorin Town, where he is ministering as a pastor. His book on the ‘Seven Words of Christ,’ in Tamil, written in 2007, has been well received by the Tamil speaking Christians, all over the world. To share the benefit with more children of God, he desired to publish the book in English. This book, however, is not a translation of the Tamil book. Rather, he has written afresh in English, in a simple language, so that any person with a basic knowledge of English could understand. The Message of the book: About two thousand years ago, the Heavenly Virtue (The Holy One) came to the world, in human form, in the Person of our Lord Jesus Christ; the religious men of His time, instead of prostrating at His feet in worship, they had Him nailed to the Cross. But our Lord in His death, saved humankind from (1) the bondage of sin, (2) the slavery of Satan, (3) the fear of death, and (4) the Great Judgment of God. By His death upon the cross, Christ revealed His eternal opposition of God to sin. In God’s redemptive Plan of the Ages, the salvation of man necessitated the vicarious suffering-cum-death of God, the Creator. Jesus’ life shows us how one should live the human life in this God-hating world. In Him, the ‘Perfect Goodness’ is expressed in a human character. He, the Son of God, came to the world and lived a ‘Perfect Life’ which is unique from any other life that was ever lived or has ever since been lived.
