She not only creates believable characters to guide us through this adventure, but she inserts them into a most realistic environment. I was blown away by her description of a specific general, circa 1866; it was so vivid that I knew immediately whom she was describing. I could go on, but nothing I could add would provide the pleasure of actually reading her work for yourself.
