Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A bold new collection showcasing the trailblazing individuals who fought for women’s suffrage, honoring the Nineteenth Amendment’s centennial anniversary. On August 18, 1920, women in the United States secured their right to vote with the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment to the Constitution. Their fight for suffrage took decades of campaigning and marching, protesting and picketing, speeches and imprisonments. Millions of women across the country gave their all to achieve victory. From Lucretia Mott, who stoked the first flames of the suffrage movement in the 1800s, to Alice Paul, the militant twentieth-century suffragist who helped clinch ratification, Women Win the Vote! maps the road to the Nineteenth Amendment through the lives of nineteen of these fierce and courageous women who paved the way. With vivid profiles of iconic figures like Sojourner Truth and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, as well as those who may be less well-known, like Mary Ann Shadd Cary and Adelina Otero-Warren, this vibrant collection celebrates the one hundredth anniversary of the Nineteenth Amendment and the daring individuals who upended tradition to empower future generations of women.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You can have a great marriage from Day one. I know that is a broad statement, but I hold true to it and can prove it through the pages of this book. What I found to be true, even in my marriage, is that you have to choose to be happy every day, no matter what! The women I know, including me, who are truly winning in their marriage is not because we have a perfect marriage, not because we have never encountered any level of adversity or challenges, but it is because we made a decision to WIN. When you get married, you are bringing two people from different walks of life, backgrounds, and environments to live together forever, so of course, they are going to be differences, disagreements and sometimes division. You have to choose if you will allow these differences and conflicts to be the steering wheel of your marriage in creating constant controversy between you and your husband or will you use them as fuel to better the marriage by constantly learning more about yourself and your husband to grow as you become one. Throughout scripture; God shows us how to build a healthy marriage in providing step by step instructions. Doing the footwork up front will lessen the effect of the opposition and adversity.
Book Synopsis Winning the West for Women by : Jennifer M. Ross-Nazzal
Download or read book Winning the West for Women written by Jennifer M. Ross-Nazzal and published by University of Washington Press. This book was released on 2011-05-01 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1856, in an opera house in Roseville, Illinois, Susan B. Anthony called for the supporters of woman suffrage to stand. The only person to rise was eight-year-old Emma Smith. And she continued to take a stand for the rest of her life. As a leader in the suffrage movement, Emma Smith DeVoe stumped across the country organizing for the cause, raising money, and helping make the West central to achieving the vote for women. DeVoe used her feminine style to great advantage in the campaign for the vote. Rather than promoting public rallies, she encouraged women to put their energies toward influencing the votes of their fathers, brothers, and husbands. Known as the still-hunt strategy, this approach was highly successful and helped win the vote for women in Washington State in 1910. Winning the West for Women demonstrates the importance of the West in the national suffrage movement. It reveals the central role played by the National Council of Women Voters, whose members were predominantly western women, in securing the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment. Winning the West for Women also tells a larger story of dissension and discord within the suffrage movement. Though ladylike in her courtship of male support for the cause, DeVoe often clashed with other activists who disagreed with her tactics or doubted her commitment to the movement. This fascinating biography describes the real experiences of women and their relationships as they struggled to win the right to vote.
