Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As early as 5, my Mama, Lulu Jack, would frustratingly send me & my siblings packing, from Wisconsin, south, to Alabama for the Summer. I'd hop from my Grandmother Bonnie's Sun-baked front porch, cross the red dirt road, tree branches draping over them, like silk robes, no sidewalks, that official border County-line between Prichard to Mobile. I'd plop down, sweat beads Mardi Tuesday around my neck, meditating by the 100-plus year old Great Live Oak Tree, that still stands today. I'd sit under the coolness of Ms Dane's shade as She stands like some ancient Sentinel guarding over my best friend's crickety porch. Sipping my Camellia sinensis tea, Ms Dane opens another imaginary book conjuring up inside her tiny head. I'd rest at her bosom, listening to the rosy stories my Oracle slowly brews like hot Chili on a subzero February winter's day. "The deepest Oak roots, are also the branches...", My 110 year old best friend, chants to me. 'Ms D' is an herbalist, a grand master priestess. She teaches me ROSE MAGIC.

Book Synopsis The Wit and Wisdom of Pinelog by : Paul G. "Jerry" Snyder
Download or read book The Wit and Wisdom of Pinelog written by Paul G. "Jerry" Snyder and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2023-01-16 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Wit and Wisdom of Pinelog By: Paul G. “Jerry” Snyder Pinelog is the imaginative alter ego of Paul G. “Jerry” Snyder. Many of the stories within The Wit and Wisdom of Pinelog are sort of true. At least, as Pinelog recalls. Ray is Ray Bolick. A neighbor up the road who is intolerant, opinionated, bullheaded, stubborn, downright crass, and a competitive old jock just like Pinelog. The two are good friends. Another Ray is Pinelog’s brother-in-law, Ray Denmark. Many of these could have been addressed to him as well. Both Rays are now hopefully holding a place open for Pinelog behind those pearly gates. The oft maligned character, Billy Bob, is one William Robert Carr, also known as Cool Breeze. He was an immediate friend the day he and Pinelog met. His wit and charm fell into a category of left space where definitions are not necessary. The artwork within the book is by Pinelog’s friend and award-winning artist, Jim Bennet. Jim's greatly discovered talent began while he was recovering from prostate cancer. His painting of 9/11 was accepted by the White House and hung on the wall outside the West Wing. The Pinelog Princess is Pinelog’s daughter, Kathy. She is Pinelog’s proofreader and computer technical advisor. Funny though, she doesn't have any of the same names for it that Pinelog does.

Download or read book Distracted written by Gloria E. Bell and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2008-10-15 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I was going through a box one day which contained all the journals I've kept over the past 20 years or so. I decided to read through them. What was going on in my life back when? As I read through the pages, the memories began to flow, and I found myself reliving those experiences. I thought, if I had the chance to change anything during the course of those years, would I be here in this place? Then I decided to combine all the journals into one, and have it published as a book. While I've been somewhat reluctant about exposing my life to the world, I thought perhaps there's someone out there who's having, or have had some of the same experiences, and can identify with them. Perhaps the journey I take you on in this book may touch you in some way. If so, I can rest in knowing I've had something to leave behind, and my living has not been in vain.

This book was released on 2014-01-28 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The collective, inclusive, and intersectional framework used in this book speaks to the significance of understanding aging across diverse cultures from multiple perspectives, but still as a shared human experience. The underlying message of the book is that although we are unique and different in our aging processes, we are ultimately connected through this physical, mental and spiritual experience of aging. Thus, regardless of whether we are service providers, service recipients, educators or merely fellow human beings, it is important that we approach the aging experience through a collective lens for discovering and sharing resources as we age; honoring the past while simultaneously accepting that the future is here. A few select examples of key findings from this collaborative work are as follows. First, despite progress in the field, certain issues remain to be addressed including the challenges of racism and sexism, mistreatment, the digital divide, poverty, and other social and economic crises in urban and rural communities as they relate to our aging population. Second, the need for sustaining a sense of independence among the aged and interdependence among supportive systems is warranted. Third, our elders continue to benefit from culturally competent services community-based health interventions and social services that addresses normative and emerging challenges for them. Fourth, spirituality in both indigenous and contemporary perspectives remains important for our elders’ development and quality of life.
