Download or read book Seeking Wisdom written by Julia Cameron and published by St. Martin's Essentials. This book was released on 2022-01-11 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Julia Cameron returns to the spiritual roots of the Artist’s Way in this 6-week Program Author Julia Cameron changed the way the world thinks about creativity when she first published The Artist’s Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity thirty years ago. Over five million copies later, Cameron now turns her attention to creative prayer, which she believes is a key facet of the creative life. In Seeking Wisdom, a 6 Week Artist’s Way Program, readers, too, will learn to pray. Tracing her own creative journey, Cameron reveals that prayer led her forward at a time of personal crisis. Unexpectedly, prayer became an indispensable support to her artistic life. The tools she created to save herself in her darkest hour became the tools she would share with the world through The Artist's Way. Seeking Wisdom details the origin of these tools, and by Cameron's example, the central role that prayer plays in sustaining a life as an artist. In this volume, Cameron shares a mindful collection of prayer practices that open our creative souls. This path takes us beyond traditional religious rituals, welcoming readers regardless of their beliefs and backgrounds. As you journey through each week of the program you’ll explore prayers of petition, gratitude, creativity, and more. Along the way, the three beloved tools of The Artist’s Way—Morning Pages, Artist Dates, and Walks—are refreshed and reintroduced, to provide a proven, grounded framework for growth and development. Additionally, Cameron introduces a fourth tool, Writing Out Guidance. She believes this powerful practice will greatly aid aspiring artists. Seeking Wisdom issues an invitation to step further into exciting creative practice.

Book Synopsis The Wisdom of Beauty by : Stephen May
Download or read book The Wisdom of Beauty written by Stephen May and published by . This book was released on 2018-11 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Wisdom of Beauty is an artist's credo, a statement of personal and philosophical reflection on the "art phenomenon" in human experience. This extended essay starts with the author's experience as a painter, moves through successive reflections on what constitutes "the good" in both life and art, and returns to the way his best work as a painter emerges from the disappearance of "self" into the process. The book is a dialogue on the relationship of ethics (the good) and aesthetics (the beautiful), which arrives at the author's unique vision of their inseparability and the guidance this provides for both art and life.
Book Synopsis Plato and the Question of Beauty by : Drew A. Hyland
Download or read book Plato and the Question of Beauty written by Drew A. Hyland and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2008-05-28 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drew A. Hyland, one of Continental philosophy's keenest interpreters of Plato, takes up the question of beauty in three Platonic dialogues, the Hippias Major, Symposium, and Phaedrus. What Plato meant by beauty is not easily characterized, and Hyland's close readings show that Plato ultimately gives up on the possibility of a definition. Plato's failure, however, tells us something important about beauty—that it cannot be reduced to logos. Exploring questions surrounding love, memory, and ideal form, Hyland draws out the connections between beauty, the possibility of philosophy, and philosophical living. This new reading of Plato provides a serious investigation into the meaning of beauty and places it at the very heart of philosophy.
Book Synopsis Socrates' Daimonic Art by : Elizabeth S. Belfiore
Download or read book Socrates' Daimonic Art written by Elizabeth S. Belfiore and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-03-08 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite increasing interest in the figure of Socrates and in love in ancient Greece, no recent monograph studies these topics in all four of Plato's dialogues on love and friendship. This book provides important new insights into these subjects by examining Plato's characterization of Socrates in Symposium, Phaedrus, Lysis and the often neglected Alcibiades I. It focuses on the specific ways in which the philosopher searches for wisdom together with his young interlocutors, using an art that is 'erotic', not in a narrowly sexual sense, but because it shares characteristics attributed to the daimon Eros in Symposium. In all four dialogues, Socrates' art enables him, like Eros, to search for the beauty and wisdom he recognizes that he lacks and to help others seek these same objects of erôs. Belfiore examines the dialogues as both philosophical and dramatic works, and considers many connections with Greek culture, including poetry and theater.
Book Synopsis Lavinia Fontana’s Mythological Paintings by : Liana De Girolami Cheney
Download or read book Lavinia Fontana’s Mythological Paintings written by Liana De Girolami Cheney and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-08-18 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume investigates emblematic and art-historical issues in Lavinia Fontana’s mythological paintings. Fontana is the first female painter of the sixteenth century in Italy to depict female nudes, as well as mythological and emblematic paintings associated with concepts of beauty and wisdom. Her paintings reveal an appropriation of the antique, a fusion between patronage and culture, and a humanistic pursuit of Mannerist conceits. Fontana’s secular imagery provides a challenging paragone with the male tradition of history painting during the sixteenth century and paves the way for new subjects to be depicted and interpreted by female painters of the seventeenth century.
