Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part inspiration, part information narrative for our story is based on walking meditation, also known as mindful walking; an active practice that requires you to be consciously aware and moving in the environment rather than sitting with your eyes closed. Just as The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, Marie Kondo's mega-selling book (over 4 million copies sold worldwide) provides readers with a life/spiritual philosophy embedded in the how-to of minimalism (with practical tips for de-cluttering of one's home), A Walk in the Wood provides a narrative grounded in the simple act of slowing down, observing what is around us, and being present. Appealing to adults who are actively searching ways to join the JOMO movement (Joy of Missing Out and being content just "being"), A Walk in the Wood also makes for a perfect gift for stressed-out family members and friends.

Book excerpt: 'An impenetrable mystery seems destined to hang for ever over this act of madness or despair.' Mr Verloc, the secret agent, keeps a shop in London's Soho where he lives with his wife Winnie, her infirm mother, and her idiot brother, Stevie. When Verloc is reluctantly involved in an anarchist plot to blow up the Greenwich Observatory things go disastrously wrong, and what appears to be 'A Simple Tale' proves to involve politicians, policemen, foreign diplomats and London's fashionable society in the darkest and most surprising interrelations. Based on the text which Conrad's first English readers enjoyed, this new edition includes a critical introduction which describes Conrad's great London novel as the realization of a 'monstrous town', a place of idiocy, madness, criminality, and butchery. ABOUT THE SERIES: For over 100 years Oxford World's Classics has made available the widest range of literature from around the globe. Each affordable volume reflects Oxford's commitment to scholarship, providing the most accurate text plus a wealth of other valuable features, including expert introductions by leading authorities, helpful notes to clarify the text, up-to-date bibliographies for further study, and much more.

Delve into the home of the world’s most beloved bear! The Natural World of Winnie-the-Pooh explores the magical landscapes where Pooh, Christopher Robin, and their friends live and play. The Hundred Acre Wood—the setting for Winnie-the-Pooh’s adventures—was inspired by Ashdown Forest, a wildlife haven that spans more than 6,000 acres in southeast England. In the pages of this enchanting book you can visit the ancient black walnut tree on the edge of the forest that became Pooh’s house, go deep into the pine trees to find Poohsticks Bridge, and climb up to the top of the enchanted Galleons Lap, where Pooh says goodbye to Christopher Robin. You will discover how Milne's childhood connection with nature and his role as a father influenced his famous stories, and how his close collaboration with illustrator E. H. Shepard brought those stories to life. This charming book also serves as a guide to the plants, animals, and places of the remarkable Ashdown Forest, whether you are visiting in person or from the comfort of your favorite armchair. In a delightful narrative, enriched with Shepard’s original illustrations, hundreds of color photographs, and Milne’s own words, you will rediscover your favorite characters and the magical place they called home.

He convinces her that she is destined to be a bear's first meal of the season after a long winter nap; that she is bound to be the victim of a coiled rattle snake ready to strike; and that a wicked witch is lurking in the shadows waiting for an opportunity to cast a spell on her. Despite her fears, Winnie skips through life relishing work and play with her best friend in the small town that she so dearly loves. When disaster strikes the homestead where Winnie lives with her family, she must show courage in the face of real danger.

Book excerpt: River Stone genre is magic realism. His archetype is a reluctant hero. His main objective is to become immortalised by successfully creating a new genre of art. Impeding him is a supernatural gift hes been given, which he defies; to take away lives by a force of arcane energy when he lays his hands on recipients. He doesnt want to be known as the angel of death. When seeing the Eagle Man, River is given another spiritual gift; eternal life. It is about psychology verses the metaphysical world and fundamentalism verses atheism. He is an environmental activist with the L.L.E, an international, secret society foundation. This organisation assigns him to join the Army Services as a reprographic soldier, to be an undercover agent to gather secret satellite information for their cause. At first, he opposes the assignment, however, his love for the philosophy Hintism and its mentor Lord Va who fatalistically manipulates Rivers existence until he owns nothing. This is a similar scenario to Dulouz (how River sees himself), testing the boundaries of nonconformity within societys dictating constraints, and freedom from materialistic constructs. Through the mere exhaustion caused by his disconnection to the framework of social structure, and failing his desire to find the antidote for his inspirational death inflicted by drudgery, the eternal collective mundane conscious and subconscious of human existence. And, dealing with a curse, jinx, hex and damnation; suffering schizophrenia (un-institutionalised) when experiencing paranormal episodes and extreme poverty...He is finally coerced ethically, socially and financially in joining the Army. The Army doesnt hinder his artistic drive, or, inspiration. The denouement is devastating in respect to his obsession with art, though his true destiny is revealed. The themes are ideological spiritual beliefs. Secret societies. vigilantism. Art, philosophies and the paranormal.

Book excerpt: Ask anyone: Jim Sain is a pompous, naked, free thinker. Hes also the mayor of Berkeley. One of his high school chums has moved back to renovate Hamilton House, one wacky adventure at a time, and who knows whats coming next? The mayor has been dubbed mR. bERZERKELEY by a cartoonist who is determined to embarrass him (and undermine his bid for reelection). His personal life is as colorful as his political life. He gives his detractors plenty of fodder to fuel his demise (but in his eyes, these are not signs of moral weakness). In this spoof that cheerfully brings the sixties into the twenty-?rst century, Jims bu?oonery as he interacts with boarding-house residents creates a wild smorgasbord of political, mysterious, sexual, and otherwise edgy adventures. A cartoonist, a nave freshman, a reformed prostitute, lesbian lovers, a sarcastic cook, the deformed son of a university bigwig, and a Kansas politician are some of the characters who spark energy back into the old house and bring classic Berkeley lore back to life. mR. bERZERKELEY is Jack McLaughlins love song to a city like no other.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winnie and George tells the true and previously untold story of two individuals who lived remarkable lives, both before and after they crossed paths. Enhanced with dramatised dialogue, it is a powerful lesson in how love, once discovered, can be greater than the sum of all our divisions. Maria Winifred Carney, known to her friends as ‘Winnie’, and George McBride came from different backgrounds and lived opposing lives. She was a Roman Catholic. He belonged to the Church of Ireland. She was a republican. He was a unionist. She was a member of Cumann na mBan. He had been in the Young Citizen Volunteers loyalist group. She became James Connolly’s secretary and carried a Webley gun in the GPO during the Easter Rising. He fought for the British Army at the Somme during the Great War. Both shared a passion for fairness and the rights of the working class. Despite living in a Belfast rife with sectarian tension and opposition from both their families a very unlikely yet successful marriage occurred.
