Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Aircraft and Rocket Propulsion by : Ahmed F. El-Sayed
Download or read book Fundamentals of Aircraft and Rocket Propulsion written by Ahmed F. El-Sayed and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-25 with total page 1025 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive basics-to-advanced course in an aero-thermal science vital to the design of engines for either type of craft. The text classifies engines powering aircraft and single/multi-stage rockets, and derives performance parameters for both from basic aerodynamics and thermodynamics laws. Each type of engine is analyzed for optimum performance goals, and mission-appropriate engines selection is explained. Fundamentals of Aircraft and Rocket Propulsion provides information about and analyses of: thermodynamic cycles of shaft engines (piston, turboprop, turboshaft and propfan); jet engines (pulsejet, pulse detonation engine, ramjet, scramjet, turbojet and turbofan); chemical and non-chemical rocket engines; conceptual design of modular rocket engines (combustor, nozzle and turbopumps); and conceptual design of different modules of aero-engines in their design and off-design state. Aimed at graduate and final-year undergraduate students, this textbook provides a thorough grounding in the history and classification of both aircraft and rocket engines, important design features of all the engines detailed, and particular consideration of special aircraft such as unmanned aerial and short/vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. End-of-chapter exercises make this a valuable student resource, and the provision of a downloadable solutions manual will be of further benefit for course instructors.
Book Synopsis Advances in Aerospace Guidance, Navigation and Control by : Florian Holzapfel
Download or read book Advances in Aerospace Guidance, Navigation and Control written by Florian Holzapfel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-03-15 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last few decades, both the aeronautics and space disciplines have greatly influenced advances in controls, sensors, data fusion and navigation. Many of those achievements that made the word “aerospace” synonymous with “high–tech” were enabled by innovations in guidance, navigation and control. Europe has seen a strong trans-national consolidation process in aerospace over the last few decades. Most of the visible products, like commercial aircraft, fighters, helicopters, satellites, launchers or missiles, are not made by a single country – they are the fruits of cooperation. No European country by itself hosts a specialized guidance, navigation and controls community large enough to cover the whole spectrum of disciplines. However, on a European scale, mutual exchange of ideas, concepts and solutions is enriching for all. The 1st CEAS Specialist Conference on Guidance, Navigation and Control is an attempt to bring this community together. This book is a selection of papers presented at the conference. All submitted papers have gone through a formal review process in compliance with good journal practices. The best papers have been recommended by the reviewers to be published in this book.
Book Synopsis A Modern Course in Aeroelasticity by : E.H. Dowell
Download or read book A Modern Course in Aeroelasticity written by E.H. Dowell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aeroelasticity is the study of flexible structures situated in a flowing fluid. Its modern origins are in the field of aerospace engineering, but it has now expanded to include phenomena arising in other fields such as bioengineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering and nuclear engineering. The present volume is a teaching text for a first, and possibly second, course in aeroelasticity. It will also be useful as a reference source on the fundamentals of the subject for practitioners. In this third edition, several chapters have been revised and three new chapters added. The latter include a brief introduction to `Experimental Aeroelasticity', an overview of a frontier of research `Nonlinear Aeroelasticity', and the first connected, authoritative account of `Aeroelastic Control' in book form. The authors are drawn from a range of fields including aerospace engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, rotorcraft and turbomachinery. Each author is a leading expert in the subject of his chapter and has many years of experience in consulting, research and teaching.

Book Synopsis The Cutting Edge by : Mark A. Lorell
Download or read book The Cutting Edge written by Mark A. Lorell and published by Rand Corporation. This book was released on 1998 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proposition that innovation is critical in the cost-effective design and development of successful military aircraft is still subject to some debate. RAND research indicates that innovation is promoted by intense competition among three or more industry competitors. Given the critical policy importance of this issue in the current environment of drastic consolidation of the aerospace defense industry, the authors here examine the history of the major prime contractors in developing jet fighters since World War II. They make use of an extensive RAND database that includes nearly all jet fighters, fighter-attack aircraft, and bombers developed and flown by U.S. industry since 1945, as well as all related prototypes, modifications, upgrades, etc. The report concludes that (1) experience matters, because of the tendency to specialize and thus to develop system-specific expertise; (2) yet the most dramatic innovations and breakthroughs came from secondary or marginal players trying to compete with the industry leaders; and (3) dedicated military R&D conducted or directly funded by the U.S. government has been critical in the development of new higher-performance fighters and bombers.
Book Synopsis Aircraft Loading and Structural Layout by : Denis Howe
Download or read book Aircraft Loading and Structural Layout written by Denis Howe and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2004 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this latest contribution to the conceptual design of an aircraft Denis Howe presents comprehensive coverage of all aspects of loading action analysis, together with the logical extension to the conceptual design of the airframe. He thereby meets two perceived needs which are not currently addressed by existing aircraft design texts, where loading analysis tends to be dealt with somewhat superficially, treating only the basic symmetric flight envelope, and where structural analysis often assumes that a certain level of design detail has already been established. Graduate and post-graduate level aeronautical students will welcome the approach offered by Aircraft Loading and Structural Layout. Practising engineers in the aircraft industry will find a useful loading action reference, providing a simple method for the derivation of initial structural data for input to advance analysis programs and the interpretation of the output from them.
