Book Synopsis Church of the Wild by : Victoria Loorz
Download or read book Church of the Wild written by Victoria Loorz and published by Broadleaf Books . This book was released on 2021-10-05 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2024 Nautilus Book Awards Silver Winner in "Religion / Spirituality of Western Thought" CategoryWinner of the Living Now Book Award, Church of the Wild reminds us that once upon a time, humans lived in an intimate relationship with nature. Whether disillusioned by the dominant church or unfulfilled by traditional expressions of faith, many of us long for a deeper spirituality. Victoria Loorz certainly did. Coping with an unraveling vocation, identity, and planet, Loorz turned to the wanderings of spiritual leaders and the sanctuary of the natural world, eventually cofounding the Wild Church Network and Seminary of the Wild. With an ecospiritual lens on biblical narratives and a fresh look at a community larger than our own species, Church of the Wild uncovers the wild roots of faith and helps us deepen our commitment to a suffering earth by falling in love with it--and calling it church. Through mystical encounters with wild deer, whispers from a scrubby oak tree, wordless conversation with a cougar, and more, Loorz helps us connect to a love that literally holds the world together--a love that calls us into communion with all creatures.
Download or read book Nature's Wild written by Andil Gosine and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2021-08-09 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Nature's Wild, Andil Gosine engages with questions of humanism, queer theory, and animality to examine and revise understandings of queer desire in the Caribbean. Surveying colonial law, visual art practices, and contemporary activism, Gosine shows how the very concept of homosexuality in the Caribbean (and in the Americas more broadly) has been overdetermined by a colonially influenced human/animal divide. Gosine refutes this presupposed binary and embraces animality through a series of case studies: a homoerotic game called puhngah, the institution of gender-based dress codes in Guyana, and efforts toward the decriminalization of sodomy in Trinidad and Tobago—including the work of famed activist Colin Robinson, paintings of human animality by Guadeloupean artist Kelly Sinnapah Mary, and Gosine's own artistic practice. In so doing, he troubles the ways in which individual and collective anxieties about “wild natures” have shaped the existence of Caribbean people while calling for a reassessment of what political liberation might look like. Download or read book Wild by Nature written by Tom Morrisey and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2001-04-01 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book for those who love adventure and who are driven to explore the earth God has created. The author draws from his own experiences in the world of sports to offer insight into the thoughts and reflections of athletes as they encounter a world of high drama and, at times, unanticipated beauty. While testing his determination and skill in mountain climbing or deep sea diving, for example, the author observes how biblical truths are as applicable in the wilds of nature as they are in a serene church setting on Sunday morning. No matter how extreme our lifestyle, God is there with those who honor him.

Book excerpt: My aim in writing this book is to alert people to the possibility that , as in other important matters, we are liable to be mistaken, it is no different for spiritual issues. In fact with the devil trying his utmost to make us err, it is even more likely to occur spiritually. The writing uses as its centrepiece one particular verse from the book of Matthew but it also draws from the surrounding context in the chapter and associated evidence in adjacent chapters. It draws on the broad themes contained in the text to illustrate issues relevant to the subject of gospel interpretation.
Book Synopsis Faith After Doubt by : Brian D. McLaren
Download or read book Faith After Doubt written by Brian D. McLaren and published by St. Martin's Essentials. This book was released on 2021-01-05 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of A New Kind of Christianity comes a bold proposal: only doubt can save the world and your faith. ONE of the Best Spiritual Books of 2021—Spirituality & Practice "Will help you live fuller and breathe easier..” —Glennon Doyle Sixty-five million adults in the U.S. have dropped out of active church attendance and about 2.7 million more are leaving every year. Faith After Doubt is for the millions of people around the world who feel that their faith is falling apart. Using his own story and the stories of a diverse group of struggling believers, Brian D. McLaren, a former pastor and now an author, speaker, and activist shows how old assumptions are being challenged in nearly every area of human life, not just theology and spirituality. He proposes a four-stage model of faith development in which questions and doubt are not the enemy of faith, but rather a portal to a more mature and fruitful kind of faith. The four stages—Simplicity, Complexity, Perplexity, and Harmony—offer a path forward that can help sincere and thoughtful people leave behind unnecessary baggage and intensify their commitment to what matters most.

Book excerpt: Presented here is the third edition of John Brown's definitive biography of the great English preacher and writer John Bunyan (1628-1688). Bunyan is best known for his allegory 'The Pilgrim's Progress' but wrote numerous other works including Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners. A tinker by trade, he was a popular preacher whose call to preach was recognized by his congregation. This was no formal recognition and upon the restoration of 1660, Bunyan was imprisoned when he refused to cease preaching without a license. A twelve-year imprisonment followed, during which Bunyan did much of his writing. During his later years Bunyan enjoyed immense influence, and his services were demanded in almost every part of England. He died August 31, 1688, in London.

This book was released on 2021-04-25 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the work of famed author, John Bunyan, renown for the well-loved classic 'Pilgrim's Progress'. It is one of his many published sermons and is based on the biblical passage Luke 24: 47. Bunyan argues that the sinners in Jerusalem, having killed the Lord Jesus Christ committed the worst crime possible and were thus the worst sinners. Nevertheless Christ's command was to preach the gospel "starting in Jerusalem". He therefore opines that this is a clear indication that the Christian message welcomes even the vilest of men.
