Book Synopsis The Who's Next Club by : Donald W. Ayer
Download or read book The Who's Next Club written by Donald W. Ayer and published by Strategic Book Publishing. This book was released on 2011-08 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "On September 25, 2003, our daughter, Julie Ayer Rubenzer, walked into the Cosmetic Surgery Center in Sarasota, Florida. She did not walk out. This diary records the outrageous events that occurred from that first phone call to 2011-the ruling on Julie's death certificate," says author Donald W. Ayer. The Who's Next Club: A Cosmetic Surgery Disaster records the painful aftermath of a surgery gone wrong. This insightful true story was written in the hope of making a difference by reducing the cosmetic surgery death rate and exposing the disparity in justice when the people seeking justice are not rich or famous. After three months of suffering, Ayer's daughter was laid to rest on December 29, 2003. On the advice of their attorney, Ayer and his wife began this journal after their daughter entered the hospital; but they put it to rest for two months until February 2004, "when we learned what actually happened in that surgery room." In 2005, Florida conducted a licensing hearing in Sarasota. "We attended, heard the sworn testimony, and at that point had a legal record of that surgery." But the Ayers did not receive justice or closure. Donald W. Ayer lives with his wife, Maureen, in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He has a degree in English from the University of Wisconsin, Platteville, sold life insurance and then became a real estate agent. At age 74, he is now writing his second book, which he is also dedicating to his daughter, Julie.
Download or read book How to Be Single written by Liz Tuccillo and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2008-06-10 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's the most annoying question and they just can't help asking you. You'll be asked it at family gatherings, weddings, and on first dates. And you'll ask yourself far too often. It's the question that has no good answer. It's the question that when people stop asking it, makes you feel even worse: Why are you single? On a brisk October morning in New York, Julie Jenson, a single thirty-eight-yearold book publicist, is on her way to work when she gets a hysterical phone call from her friend Georgia. Reeling from her husband's announcement that he is leaving her for a samba teacher, Georgia convinces a reluctant Julie to organize a fun girls' night out with all their single friends to remind her why it is so much fun not to be tied down. But the night, which starts with steaks and martinis and ends with a trip to the hospital, becomes a wake-up call for Julie. Because none of her friends seems to be having much fun right now: Alice, a former legal aid attorney, has recently quit her job to start dating for a living; Serena is so busy becoming a fully realized person that she can't find time to look for a mate; and Ruby, a curvy and compassionate woman, has been mourning the death of her cat for months. So, fed up with the dysfunction and disappointments of being single in Manhattan, Julie quits her job and sets off to find out how women around the world are dealing with this dreaded phenomenon. From Paris to Rio to Sydney, Bali, Beijing, Mumbai, and Reykjavik, Julie falls in love, gets her heart broken, sees the world, and learns more than she ever dreamed possible. Back in New York, her friends are grappling with their own issues—bad blind dates, loveless engagements, custody battles, and single motherhood. Through their journeys, all these women fight to redefine their vision of love, happiness, and a fulfilled life. Written in Liz Tuccillo's pitch-perfect, hilarious, and relatable voice, How to Be Single is the ultimate novel for the adventurer in us all.

Download or read book Who's Behind the Couch? written by Kerry L. Malawista and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-11 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is it like to be a working psychoanalyst? And what is it like to be held in the mind of one? These were the questions that led Winer and Malawista to interview seventeen notable analysts from around the world. Who's Behind the Couch?: The Heart and the Mind of the Psychoanalyst explores the analyst's mind at work, not so much from a theoretical perspective, but rather from the complexities and richness inherent in every moment-to-moment clinical encounter. As analysts we are all continually challenged to find what might work best with a particular patient. Yet we don't often hear senior analysts share their personal struggles, feelings, and sensibilities. To understand the internal experience of analysts the authors posed questions such as: What is it like for analysts to manage rough spots, to lose ground and try to recapture it? To feel appreciated and then to feel devalued? To feel betrayed? To feel responsibility for someone's life while working to maintain their own balance?
