Book excerpt: Extraordinary rendition—the practice of abducting criminal suspects in locations around the world—has been criticized as an unprecedented expansion of U.S. police powers. But America’s aggressive pursuit of fugitives beyond its borders far predates the global war on terror. Uncle Sam’s Policemen investigates the history of international manhunts, arguing that the extension of U.S. law enforcement into foreign jurisdictions at the turn of the twentieth century forms an important chapter in the story of American empire. In the late 1800s, expanding networks of railroads and steamships made it increasingly easy for criminals to evade justice. Recognizing that domestic law and order depended on projecting legal authority abroad, President Theodore Roosevelt declared in 1903 that the United States would “leave no place on earth” for criminals to hide. Charting the rapid growth of extradition law, Katherine Unterman shows that the United States had fifty-eight treaties with thirty-six nations by 1900—more than any other country. American diplomats put pressure on countries that served as extradition havens, particularly in Latin America, and cloak-and-dagger tactics such as the kidnapping of fugitives by Pinkerton detectives were fair game—a practice explicitly condoned by the U.S. Supreme Court. The most wanted fugitives of this period were not anarchists and political agitators but embezzlers and defrauders—criminals who threatened the emerging corporate capitalist order. By the early twentieth century, the long arm of American law stretched around the globe, creating an informal empire that complemented both military and economic might.

The survivor of a lifetime of sexual abuse, she has grown to serve as a beacon for other child victims. In Stolen Childhood, she shares chilling, detailed accounts of her life in Zambia as the sexual slave of her father. The abuse began when she was just five years old, and as a result, her relatives shunned her and predicted that she would never marry. She struggled to complete her education as the nightmare continued. As a teen, she was forced to marry her own father, a polygamist with three other wives. She bore him four childrenwho have also been shunned by her family. Desperate, she ran away to live on the streets. Her life was grim, but not as grim as the future they predicted for her. But Priscilla is a survivor, not a victim. She dreams of building a sanctuary, school, and psychosocial centre in Zambia. She shares her story with strong language and imagery, to help the reader truly understand what she went through. She wants to do everything she can to get others to take the claims of children seriously. Ten percent of the proceeds from the sale of her story will go to benefit the work of PSHAF.

Book excerpt: "Pride, greed, and power have driven men to do the unthinkable--including selling out their nations and unsuspected citizens to the most corrupt and destructive "invisible" global leaders on Earth. But how did this happen on American soil? How did the downfall begin and who were the predators that the "land of the free and home of the brave" fell victim to? And is all hope lost? This book captures details of the last 200 years of American history that mainstream media does not want you to know. It dissects the "legalized" system of the private central banks that has gone unchecked, and delivers gut-wrenching truths about the real domestic and foreign enemies of the United States. With over 1000 footnotes and quotes from former presidents, prime ministers, and state officials, it will equip you with the facts that the elites have covered up for centuries and empower you to stand up for the truth"--Dust jacket.

Book excerpt: The stolen base is one of the most fascinating plays in all of sports. In no other sport is the opportunity present for the offense to literally take away what belongs to the defense. In other sports it is the ball (or puck) that must do the scoring; in baseball, however, it is the runner, and base stealing is the runner's greatest weapon. Not just ball games but entire World Series have turned on a steal. This book traces the history of the stolen base and stealing in the major leagues from its humble beginnings through its current status as an indispensable part of a team's offense. Also covered are the players who were synonymous with base stealing: Ty Cobb, Luis Aparicio, Maury Wills, Lou Brock, Rickey Henderson, and others. The most memorable steals in baseball history are also recalled.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1961, twenty-five-year-old Herbert Jay Stern, fresh from reserve duty, stood in his green army uniform in a New York County courtroom to be sworn in as an attorney. He could only guess what his life as a prosecuting lawyer would be. A dozen years later, in the wake of the national scandal of Watergate, Stern, draped in black robes now, would take the oath of office as a federal judge. In the years between, the idealistic young Stern would sharpen his skills in the realities of the criminal courts of New York City, to emerge as the lead trial attorney for the Justice Department, charged with breaking the back of organized crime in New Jersey. Stern’s highly charged account of his outright war against powerful state government officials and the mafia takes us deep inside the mechanisms of law and order during a time when assassinations came fast and loose, cities were burning in race riots, and racketeering and graft were so prevalent in the Garden State that its own senator called it a “stench in the nostrils and an offense to the vision of the world.” Before Stern and his equally dedicated colleagues on the “strike force” out of Washington, D.C., are finished, they will have successfully prosecuted the mayors of Jersey City, Newark, and Atlantic City for being on the take; a congressman for conspiracy, tax violations, and perjury; and blackened the eye of organized crime.

Book excerpt: Steeped in history and filled with heart-wrenching twists, The Stolen Marriage is an emotionally captivating novel of secrets, betrayals, prejudice, and forgiveness. It showcases Diane Chamberlain at the top of her talent. One mistake, one fateful night, and Tess DeMello’s life is changed forever. It is 1944. Pregnant, alone, and riddled with guilt, twenty-three-year-old Tess DeMello abruptly gives up her budding career as a nurse and ends her engagement to the love of her life, unable to live a lie. Instead, she turns to the baby’s father for help and agrees to marry him, moving to the small, rural town of Hickory, North Carolina. Tess’s new husband, Henry Kraft, is a secretive man who often stays out all night, hides money from his new wife, and shows her no affection. Tess quickly realizes she’s trapped in a strange and loveless marriage with no way out. The people of Hickory love and respect Henry but see Tess as an outsider, treating her with suspicion and disdain. When one of the town’s golden girls dies in a terrible accident, everyone holds Tess responsible. But Henry keeps his secrets even closer now, though it seems that everyone knows something about him that Tess does not. When a sudden polio epidemic strikes Hickory, the townspeople band together to build a polio hospital. Tess knows she is needed and defies Henry’s wishes to begin working at there. Through this work, she begins to find purpose and meaning. Yet at home, Henry’s actions grow more alarming by the day. As Tess works to save the lives of her patients, can she untangle the truth behind her husband’s mysterious behavior and find the love—and the life—she was meant to have? Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: (Spring 2010) This historical novel finds President Reagan at odds with his daughter, Vice President, White House Staff and Cabinet as Ronnie and Nancy try to do the best acting of their lives to leave the White House, alive. (unabridged edition) Our most loved and hated President after Kennedy and before Obama, Ronnie struggles to defeat the ‘Evil Empire’ and not lose his mind to Alzheimer’s dementia. Can he still trust Bill Casey and George Bush, George Shultz, Selwa Roosevelt and Mike Deaver? Can Ronnie find out who's pulling his strings? A fervent anti-Communist and Nazi hater praised by his wife Nancy and ultra-conservatives, groomed by Bechtel Corporation since 1950 and sold StarWars by Dick Cheney and Paul Nitze during the most scandal-ridden presidency in American history, daughter Patti, college students and flower children despised Reagan for supporting the Vietnam War and Contra death squads and felt the Reagan-Bush Administration was run by Nazis. As it turns out, it was. This historical novel documents the foreign policy, national security and monetary policies of the Reagan-Bush Administration were run by Nazis thru the life of character Reinhard Gehlen, Hitler’s chief of Foreign Armies East intelligence, whom Dulles hired to run and train CIA as Freikorps Nazi deathsquad torturers, terrorists and assassins who then trained the Contras ...that Gehlen was later handled by Bill Casey (Ronnie's campaign manager) then George Bush (Ronnie's vice president) to fight, exaggerate and invent the Cold War in order to capture the Russian Baku oil fields. Based on autobiographies of the Reagan family, Cabinet, and White House Staff, the 650-page book includes a 250-page epilog of documentation and a 50-pg researchers' index, footnotes, and an extensive appendix including charts from: Staff Report, Committee on Banking, Currency & Housing, House of Representatives, 94th Congress, 2d session, Aug. 1976 -- Federal Reserve Directors, a Study of Corporate & Banking Influence. The charts trace from 1913 to present the family dynasties of the private owners and interlocking directorate of the Federal Reserve Bank and other G-8 central banks (the World Order and New World Order) whom Bill Casey, George Shultz, the Bushes, bin Ladens, Thyssens, Rockefellers, Rothschilds, Browns, Harrimans and Reinhard Gehlen worked for and against whose family ancestors the American Revolution was fought and whose family decendents today continue to dominate the financial, political, economic, and bailout and foreclosure landscape with financial terrorism. Additionally, the historical novel follows the family dynasties of the private owners of the interlocking directorate of the Fed/G8 including Bank of England and Bundesbank and other central banks involved in the American Revolution of 1776, the American Civil War, the depressions in the late 1800s and early 1900s, the founding of the privately owned Federal Reserve Bank in 1913, WWI, the financing of the Bolshevik party from New York and thru Ruskombank which supplied U.S. technology and weapons and military vehicles to communist Russia who supplied them to the Viet Cong to kill Americans. Appendices also document the previously hypothesized money-issuing class that prints and owns our money that rules the upper class, middle class, working class, and unemployed classes. The appendix also includes documentation of the Clinton-era involvement with HUD corruption when Bill was Governor and Hillary was a HUD attorney. HUD sold billions of dollars of foreclosed properties in East L.A. at ten cents on the dollar to the Fed-founded Dillion-Read bank. Ronnie was advised about the marriage of the oil and illegal drug industries, and the case by the European Union and Central and South American countries against Reynolds Tobacco for laundering heroin and cocaine profits with Camel Cigarettes.
