Book excerpt: A more abundant life is within your reach. Join Jess Connolly as she casts a fresh vision for how to break free of cheap grace and empty rule-keeping and change the world rather than be changed by it. Grace is always good news, but it's not cheap. True grace compels us to change, and that's where holiness comes in. Jess Connolly--beloved writer, speaker, business coach, coauthor of Wild and Free, and author of You Are the Girl for the Job--will be the first to admit that not long ago, like many women, she embraced God's grace, but found herself forgetting holiness altogether. Dance, Stand, Run charts Jess's discovery that holiness was never meant to be a shaming reminder of what we "should" do, but rather a profound privilege of becoming more like Christ. In Dance, Stand, Run, Jess shares the truth that changed her life and her faith forever: once we've gripped the grace that Jesus has given us by faith and planted our feet on his holy ground, we become ambassadors of life, hope, truth, and love. Jess will give you the encouragement you need to finally: Claim your identity as a holy daughter of God Live out your holy influence with confidence before a watching world Discover your true purpose Dance, Stand, Run is an invitation to God's daughters to step into the movements of abundant life: dancing in grace, standing firm in holiness, and running on mission.

Book excerpt: This book tells us that the Holy Spirit is our guidance into successful living. The Holy Spirit is there to take away our fears of the world. The Holy Spirit tells us what to do with our life. He is constantly reprimanding and reminding us and telling us what to do. We call out to him to remind us about what to do. We follow his dictates to the letter and find ourselves in an advisory capacity to other people telling them what to do. The Holy Spirit monitors our relationships with other people. We intervene in their lives and bring holiness to bear upon their spirits. We were meant to be a holy people and bring holiness into our world. We are a holy people when we have a positive influence upon the spirits of others. I was born and raised in a small town in upstate New York, Sherburne. I graduated from the College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, New York. This is the oldest Catholic woman's college in New York State. Following graduation, I spent a year studying in Paris at the Sorbonne. I was also educated at the University of Wisconsin and at SUNY at Oswego. I was married after I moved to Syracuse, New York where I was a teacher of French and Spanish. I raised three children. I am divorced and live alone now in Syracuse.

Book Synopsis Prayer as Transgression? by : Sheryl Reimer-Kirkham
Download or read book Prayer as Transgression? written by Sheryl Reimer-Kirkham and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2020-09-23 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Healthcare settings are notoriously complex places where life and death co-exist, and where suffering is an everyday occurrence, giving rise to existential questions. The full range of society's diversity is reflected in patients and staff. Increasing religious and ethnic plurality, alongside decades of secularizing trends, is bringing new attention to how religion and nonreligion are expressed in public spaces. Through critical ethnographic research in Vancouver and London, Prayer as Transgression? reveals how prayer occurs in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and community-based clinics in a variety of forms and circumstances. Prayer occurs quietly on the edges of day-to-day healthcare provision and in designated sacred spaces. Some requests for prayer, however, interrupt and transgress the clinical machinery of a hospital, such as when a patient asks for prayer from the chaplain while the operating room waits. With contributions by researchers, healthcare practitioners, and chaplains, the authors consider how prayer transgresses the clinical priorities that mark healthcare, opening up ways to think differently about institutional norms and social structures. They show how prayer highlights trends of secularization and sacralization in healthcare settings. They also consider the ambivalences about prayer arising from staff and patients' varied views on religion and spirituality, and their associated ethical concerns amidst clinical and workload demands. A window onto religion in the public sphere, Prayer as Transgression? tells much about how people live well together, even in the face of personal crises and fragilities, suffering, diversity, and social change.
Download or read book Today’s Prayer written by Stephen Kyeyune and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2019-05-30 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written to all kinds of people because all of us need to pray. Praying means asking. None of us is exempted from praying because we are all dependants in one way or another. Everything that is not God depends on God. We are inadequate because there is no time we don’t have expectations to meet. We have shared human desires. For example, everyone needs to be loved. We are all exclusively dependants on God because the desires of the human heart can only be found in the Lord. Trying to fix things apart from God is the recipe of failure. Praying is the greatest fellowship with God. We pray to the ‘all-sufficient’ God because we are insufficient by ourselves. Humanity with all human resources cannot save or fulfill itself. Our desires are endless and are constantly changing. For example, our eyes are never satisfied with seeing; we always want to see something new. Our ears are never satisfied with hearing; we always want to hear the current news. Likewise, the soul is never tired of yearning for the transcendent. People take different avenues when seeking for fulfillment but only those who have discovered the power of prayer experience true fulfillment. We are called to pray unceasingly because there is constantly a feeling of emptiness when we do not communicate with God. Emptiness is the reality of the void that colonized the heart, which was once a sacred space occupied by the Divine. Praying is to be intimate with God; it is having God’s ear and eye in order to see the earthly things from the heavenly perspective.
