Findings suggest that the traditional diet, lifestyle and foods produced in northern climates are not only extremely healthy but also environmentally friendly. Eat Nordic is all about eating locally sourced seasonal ingredients combined in a balanced diet of protein, carbohydrate and fat. The traditional diet of Northern Europe - with its emphasis on good, home-made and often home-grown, seasonal food - consists of a wide variety of grains, berries, vegetables, fish, poultry and game (but very little meat). In this updated edition of the best-selling book, The Nordic Diet, Trine Hahnemann, doyenne of Scandinavian cooking, provides a succinct guide to the Nordic diet, its elements, ingredients and basic philosophy and how to use it to lose weight. All these elements are then combined in 75 diverse and delicious recipes. Photographed in Denmark by Lars Ranek, Eat Nordic is an appealing and timely book.

Book excerpt: Based on the practically perfect Nordic Diet, this gimmick-free and scientifically proven approach to eating will help you keep unwanted pounds off for good. Powerhouse experts Arne Astrup, Professor Jennie Brand-Miller, and Christian Bitz know that the Nordic Diet is the “best diet in the world” for getting healthy and staying lean, even into middle age and beyond. As leaders in obesity research, glycemic science, and healthy living, respectively, they’ve learned that eating a specific ratio of proteins, whole grains, and vegetables and incorporating traditional Nordic ingredients such as rye flour, skyr yogurt, and rapeseed oil into one’s diet are the most effective paths to overall health and stable weight. There’s complex science at work behind the Nordic Diet, yet it’s remarkably simple and delicious to adopt. Readers will be able to see significant improvements in their health and weight—and even prevent the dreaded middle-age spread—without ever having to count a single calorie or eliminate carbs, dairy, and meat. Featuring an in-depth look at peer-reviewed studies that support the diet and more than 60 stunningly photographed recipes, The Nordic Way is the health-forward cookbook that readers need to get and stay healthy for life.

The Scandi Sense Diet is the intuitive way of eating that helps you to cut calories without counting them, and adapts to your life rather than dictating it. No calorie-counting, no hard-to-source ingredients and no exercise - unless you want to. The Scandi Sense Diet is not just about looking good - although it does work wonders on the physique. It takes a scientific approach that ensures good health across the board, including regulating blood sugar and cholesterol. Suzy Wengel's 9-day plan is irresistibly simple, and has proven results that can be seen in the book's case studies. Put an end to yo-yo dieting and enjoy three satisfying meals each day, easily planned with your own two hands.

Book excerpt: The Nordic countries have collaborated in setting guidelines for dietary composition and recommended intakes of nutrients for several decades through the joint publication of the Nordic Nutrition Recommendations (NNR). This 5th edition, the NNR 2012, gives Dietary Reference Values (DRVs) for nutrients, and compared with earlier editions more emphasis has been put on evaluating the scientific evidence for the role of food and food patterns contributing to the prevention of the major diet-related chronic diseases. Recommendations on physical activity are included and interaction with physical activity has been taken into account for the individual nutrient recommendations wherever appropriate. A chapter on sustainable food consumption has been added. A Nordic perspective has been accounted for in setting the reference values. The NNR 2012 has used an evidence-based and transparent approach in assessing associations between nutrients and foods and certain health outcomes. Systematic reviews form the basis for the recommendations of several nutrients and topics, while a less stringent update has been done for others. The systematic reviews and individual chapters have been peer reviewed and the systematic reviews are published in the Food & Nutrition Research journal. The draft chapters were subject to an open public consultation. Recommendations have been changed only when sufficient scientific evidence has evolved since the 4th edition. The primary aim of the NNR 2012 is to present the scientific background of the recommendations and their application. A secondary aim is for the NNR 2012 to function as a basis for the national recommendations that are adopted by the individual

This book was released on 2018-04-24 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This review focuses on national and subnational Mediterranean diet (MD) and Nordic diet (ND) interventions and policies in the WHO European Region. In the context of increasing noncommunicable disease (NCD) burden and unhealthy diets, there is a need to continue identifying optimal, evidence-informed diets and interventions for the prevention and control of NCDs. The MD and ND have been identified as region-specific healthy diets. To support decision-makers in shaping context-specific diet and nutrition policies, this review provides a summary of the NCD burden and activities in the Region; outlines the NCD-related health benefits of the MD and ND; describes interventions and policies in 15 countries; reviews four identified studies into the effectiveness of MD and ND policies on NCD outcomes; and discusses policy implications and options. In the context of MD and ND interventions for NCDs, there remains a Region-wide need to increase translation of evidence into action, monitor and evaluate the impact of existing policies on NCD outcomes and share activities through public platforms to support information sharing.

Every year Americans spend tens of billions of dollars on diet books, diet products, and gym memberships. In spite of this, every year more of us become overweight. We need the knowledge that can help us to be better judges of weight loss claims. Why Diet and Exercise Fail looks at the track record of popular weight loss techniques, including high fat diets, low carbohydrate diets, low sugar diets, low calorie diets, and exercise. It shows how conventional wisdom on weight loss is wrong and how recent discoveries in weight loss research implicate a previously unsuspected factor in modern weight gain.

Book excerpt: Considering the detrimental environmental impact of current food systems, and the concerns raised about their sustainability, there is an urgent need to promote diets that are healthy and have low environmental impacts. These diets also need to be socio-culturally acceptable and economically accessible for all. Acknowledging the existence of diverging views on the concepts of sustainable diets and healthy diets, countries have requested guidance from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) on what constitutes sustainable healthy diets. These guiding principles take a holistic approach to diets; they consider international nutrition recommendations; the environmental cost of food production and consumption; and the adaptability to local social, cultural and economic contexts. This publication aims to support the efforts of countries as they work to transform food systems to deliver on sustainable healthy diets, contributing to the achievement of the SDGs at country level, especially Goals 1 (No Poverty), 2 (Zero Hunger), 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), 4 (Quality Education), 5 (Gender Equality) and 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and 13 (Climate Action).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New Mediterranean Diet Cookbook is your guidebook to the ultimate superdiet, an evidence-based keto diet that emphasizes a diversity of fish, healthy fats, and a rainbow of colorful vegetables—with 100 delicious recipes for everything from snacks to dinner. The Mediterranean diet has long been touted as one of the world’s healthiest diets, renowned for its protective effects against heart disease, cancer, and other chronic illnesses. However, its heavy inclusion of grains and carbohydrates can contribute to obesity and is a drawback for many. Also shown to have many health benefits, the ketogenic diet stimulates the fat-burning and longevity-promoting state of ketosis by limiting carbs and emphasizing high-fat foods. While the keto diet is about the proportion of macronutrients (fats, protein, carbohydrates) in the food you eat, the Mediterranean diet is about specific food types: seafood, olive oil, colorful vegetables, and other anti-inflammatory foods. This book is about living and eating at the intersection of these complementary diets so you can reap the benefits of both. While both diets advocate significant amounts of healthy fats and protein, the new Mediterranean approach to keto significantly shifts the fat profile of the diet to emphasize the monounsaturated and omega-3 fats that health experts agree promote living a long disease-free life. It also includes colorful vegetables, providing a diversity of nutrients and flavor. The result is an enhanced Mediterranean diet that stokes metabolism, supports the gut and microbiome, and is anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, and nutrient-dense. Improve your overall health while enjoying delectable dishes including: Superfood Shakshuka Blender Cinnamon Pancakes with Cacao Cream Topping Green Goddess Salad Pancetta Wrapped Sea Bass Sheet Pan Crispy Salmon Piccata Fierce Meatball Zoodle Bolognese Nordic Stone Age Bread Chocolate Hazelnut “Powerhouse” Truffles With The New Mediterranean Diet Cookbook, you’ll learn how to balance your macronutrients, what foods are considered the new Mediterranean superfoods, and how to make tasty dishes to keep you satisfied all day.
