Book Synopsis Wege aus der Angst - Gewalt gegen Frauen by : Ingrid Olbricht
Download or read book Wege aus der Angst - Gewalt gegen Frauen written by Ingrid Olbricht and published by C.H.Beck. This book was released on 2004 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Synopsis Living with Paradoxes by : Karolin Eva Kappler
Download or read book Living with Paradoxes written by Karolin Eva Kappler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-06 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do women who have survived traumatic sexual violence cope with and manage their everyday lives? Karolin Eva Kappler analyses the everyday life of victims of sexual violence, combining the normalcy of their daily life with the overwhelming experience of rape and sexual abuse. Based on a qualitative study, the author detects five patterns which characterize the victims’ everyday coping practices and strategies. The grounded analysis of the interview material shows the fragility of the victims’ lives, depending on paradoxes which reduce their freedom of choice and which explain the individual and social invisibility of sexual violence. The book is valuable reading for academics and practitioners working in the fields of sociology, psychology, medicine, social work, and education.

Download or read book Beyond Bach written by Andrew Talle and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2017-04-07 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reverence for J. S. Bach's music and its towering presence in our cultural memory have long affected how people hear his works. In his own time, however, Bach stood as just another figure among a number of composers, many of them more popular with the music-loving public. Eschewing the great composer style of music history, Andrew Talle takes us on a journey that looks at how ordinary people made music in Bach's Germany. Talle focuses in particular on the culture of keyboard playing as lived in public and private. As he ranges through a wealth of documents, instruments, diaries, account ledgers, and works of art, Talle brings a fascinating cast of characters to life. These individuals--amateur and professional performers, patrons, instrument builders, and listeners--inhabited a lost world, and Talle's deft expertise teases out the diverse roles music played in their lives and in their relationships with one another. At the same time, his nuanced re-creation of keyboard playing's social milieu illuminates the era's reception of Bach's immortal works.

Book Synopsis Kunst, Kommunikation, Macht by : Ingrid Bauer
Download or read book Kunst, Kommunikation, Macht written by Ingrid Bauer and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Death in the Shape of a Young Girl written by Patricia Melzer and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2015-04-24 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the early 1970s, a number of West German left-wing activists took up arms, believing that revolution would lead to social change. This publication questions the separation of political violence from feminist politics and offers a new understanding of left-wing female terrorists' actions as feminist practices that challenged existing gender ideologies. The author draws on archival sources, unpublished letters, and interviews with former activists to paint an interdisciplinary picture of West Germany's most notorious political group, the Red Army Faction (der Rote Armee Fraktion (RAF)).

Download or read book Escapees written by Tanja von Fransecky and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2019-08-01 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of the countless stories of resistance, ingenuity, and personal risk to emerge in the years following the Holocaust, among the most remarkable, yet largely overlooked, are those of the hundreds of Jewish deportees who escaped from moving trains bound for the extermination camps. In France, Belgium, and the Netherlands alone over 750 men, women and children undertook such dramatic escape attempts, despite the extraordinary uncertainty and physical danger they often faced. Drawing upon extensive interviews and a wealth of new historical evidence, Escapees gives a fascinating collective account of this hitherto neglected form of resistance to Nazi persecution.
Download or read book Violent Space written by Anja Nowak and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2023 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "For Nazi Germany, the ghetto was a conceptual tool used to facilitate social and political exclusion and further their anti-Jewish campaign. For the Jews who lived in them, the ghetto became the center of their lives--even though they were also sites of immense suffering. Combining thorough historical research with an interdisciplinary analysis of the relationship between space and violence, Violent Space provides a unique insight into the history and the socio-spatial topography of the Jewish ghetto in German-occupied Warsaw (1939-1943). Using rare archival materials and firsthand accounts, many of which have never been translated into English, Anja Nowak traces out the trauma that the space of the ghetto inflicted on its Jewish inhabitants, and how it alienated, disoriented, and harmed them. While the physical ghetto--its buildings, boundaries, and streets--has been reabsorbed and redefined by modern-day Warsaw's urban structure, Violent Space shows us that its presence still lingers in the narratives of those who were forced into this first phase of the Holocaust"--
