Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of poetry and short stories is all about never leaving anything on the shelf. As a child, I was always curious, and when I learned of my adoption at the age of eight, it changed me. I internally knew I was different but have always been thankful for my mothers love. I believe that it was one of the things that kept me alive when I was lucky enough to be her son. I always enjoyed writing my feelings. I always thought it was the expression of emotion that proves the passion we hold.I also never thought it should be bottled up. I remember writing these works in some of the most uncertain and hurtful times of my life.Through the years I have had very intense dreams. Ive had many as a young adult and have continued to grow more vivid through the years. Some of these dreams and states have felt like deep memories of things I have seen from other timelines. As I would write these thoughts and memories, it was like metaphorically dusting traumas from the shelves of life. Through the years, many have read these works and have shared that some of the stories and words have helped them with their challenges. So I set it as a goal to continue to write more until I reached the age of forty. At this time, I would publish it despite criticism or judgment.I hope that anyone who can take something positive from this collection can see that life is worth living. I also thank you for allowing this book to become a part of your thoughts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Former senator Carl Levin’s memoir demonstrates the value of pragmatism, empathy, and compromise. Representing Michigan for thirty-six years in the U.S. Senate, Carl Levin, the longest-serving senator in Michigan history, was known for his dogged pursuit of the truth, his commitment to holding government accountable, and his basic decency. Getting to the Heart of the Matter: My 36 Years in the Senateis his story – from his early days in Detroit as the son of a respected lawyer to the capstone of his career as chair of both the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. Levin's career placed him at the center of some of our nation's most critical points in modern times: from the aftermath of the 1967 Detroit riots, to the Clinton impeachment, through 9/11 and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the 2008 financial crisis. He met with numerous world leaders, including Egypt's Anwar Sadat and China's Jiang Zemin. Getting to the Heart of the Matterrecounts Levin's experiences, thoughts, and actions during these historic moments. Consisting of seventeen chapters, the book takes the reader through Levin's early life in Detroit of the 1940s, 50s, and 60s where he met his wife, started a family, practiced law and served as the first General Counsel for the newly created Michigan Civil Rights Commission and the chief appellate defender for Detroit's Legal Aid Office. Elected to the Detroit City Council in 1969, where Levin served for eight years including four as Council president, the book describes how his fight against the Department of Housing and Urban Development's devastating housing practices in the neighborhoods of Detroit led him to run for the U.S. Senate with a pledge to make government work more effectively. Winning election six times, Levin had an illustrious career in the Senate where he challenged leaders in government and the private sector for the greater good of the nation. Levin describes how, as a Democrat, throughout his time in the Senate, he worked with Republican senators who often held different policy positions in order to find common ground to achieve national goals, and how he and his Senate staff searched for creative solutions to trade issues, support for the auto industry and manufacturing sector, U.S. military action in Iraq and Afghanistan, and efforts to protect the Great Lakes and the environment, among many other issues. Levin's hope in writing this memoir is that by sharing his deeply held beliefs about the responsibility of elected officials, the book will serve as a resource for people beginning a career in, or contemplating running for, public office. Readers with an interest in politics, history, facts, and perseverance will find kinship in this book.

Your Father loves being involved in the details of your life, and every new day is His way of reaching out to show you He's in every breathtaking sunrise. And the first light of each day can serve as a reminder of how close He is to us. He is with you in every laugh you share with friends, every hug you give a family member, every "I love you" that you choose to speak, every changed diaper, every song you sing along to with your car windows down, and every late night that you gaze at the stars shining down on you." There's a subtle art in allowing ourselves to be loved, but God's love comes without effort. His love is natural, and it's for every single one of us. In every season, our Father loves us more than we could ever imagine. Dare to allow yourself to be wrapped in the center of His love right where He intended for you to be.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Love and wrath. Sovereignty and responsibility. Victory and suffering. Some of the truths we read in the Bible seem to be in opposition to each other. We naturally tend to gravitate towards a side, but when we lose sight of one truth in order to protect the other, we are in danger of becoming proud, creating division, and diminishing our faith. In this compelling, inspiring, and at times provocative book, Adam Mabry urges us to stop taking sides and refuse to participate in tribalism by mapping out a way to hold in tension truths that we so often divide over. You’ll discover how our joy and our witness rest on us learning to hold to all that the Scriptures teach and growing in virtue as we do. You’ll learn how to wrestle with all that the Scriptures say, to embrace mystery, to listen closely, and to speak with clarity.
