Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WARNING: The Believer General has determined that reading this book could be harmful to your faith. After exhaustive investigation, it has been determined that Wonderful Wawa is neither a being of this earth nor a god, but a secret agent of the LIA: the Lunatic Intelligence Agency, for you humans out there. The LIA is an elite arm of the government of planet Lunacy, a world that orbits a very small sun situated behind Antares and hidden from Earthlings. Wonderful Wawa arrived on Earth in a womb-shaped spaceship and implanted into a human female, camouflaging himself as a fellow human being. His only mission: infiltrate as many earthly institutions as possible to spread the seeds of the Lunatic philosophy. As Earthling Buehl Sheadt follows Wawa's every move in this provocative fantasy, thus begins the strangest part of Sheadt's life. He dutifully chronicles how Wawa reaches his wise and witty conclusions through many years of dedicated soul-searching. With his scribe in tow, Wawa continues to expound his theories-befriending some and offending many-while always maintaining the unique position of a "casually interested onlooker" in life. Enjoy this irreverent collection of tongue-in-cheek philosophical musings from an itinerant wise man, on everything from circumcision to Communism, and a multitude of subjects in between.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is the first substantial description of Tundra Nenets, a highly endangered Uralic language spoken in Western Siberia and the north of European Russia, destined for the international linguistic community. Its purpose is to provide a thorough documentation of all of the major grammatical phenomena in the language. The grammar particularly emphasizes the description of syntax, because this has traditionally been a very neglected area of Nenets studies. Many syntactic aspects have not received a systematic treatment in the existing literature or have not been addressed at all. Since the existing works are not easily available, incomplete, or idiosyncratically presented, Tundra Nenets syntax has played little or no role in the considerations of modern linguists, whether more descriptively or theoretically inclined. The book is largely descriptive: it is not intended to address theoretical questions per se and the description is not meant to be formulated within a particular framework. However, it identifies and discusses issues which are of broad typological and theoretical interest. The description is richly exemplified. Most of the cited examples are the result of fieldwork conducted by the in various locations. They are sentences produced by native speakers either spontaneously or elicited in response to questions posed in Russian. Other examples are excerpts from original texts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This illuminating book critically examines multicultural language politics and policymaking in the Andean-Amazonian countries of Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, demonstrating how issues of language and power throw light on the relationship between Indigenous peoples and the state. Based on the author’s research in Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia over several decades, Howard draws comparisons over time and space. With due attention to history, the book’s focus is situated in the years following the turn of the millennium, a period in which ideological shifts have affected continuity in official policy delivery even as processes of language shift from Indigenous languages such as Aymara and Quechua, to Spanish, have accelerated. The book combines in-depth description and analysis of state-level activity with ethnographic description of responses to policy on the ground. The author works with concepts of technologies of power and language regimentation to draw out the hegemonic workings of power as exercised through language policy creation at multiple scales. This book will be key reading for students and scholars of critical sociolinguistic ethnography, the history, society and politics of the Andean region, and linguistic anthropology, language policy and planning, and Latin American studies more broadly.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This cutting-edge text shows how large scale organizational change is in fact a complex iteration of individual, team, interdepartmental and organization processes whereby each continually and systematically influences the others (a topic often neglected by ODC and strategy books). Traditionally, strategy and organization development and change have occupied different worlds; one grounded in the economic and management sciences, the other in the applied behavioural sciences. In this enlightening text, Coghlan and Rashford abridge these two worlds using a framework of organizational levels. In this important text, the authors here clearly demonstrate how such processes are brought together in an interlevel approach. They focus on the involvement of such players as: individuals (CEO, senior managers and others) teams (senior management team, board, other teams) inter-departmental groups (inter-team) the organization (in its external relations). This interdepartmental aspect of most organizations is critical to developing and deploying strategic actions, yet is often never discussed. Exploring both the external and internal discontinuous nature of forces for change, this book guides the reader through the intricacies of this highly complex subject. Expertly combining theory with practice, it will be a valuable book for masters level and advanced undergraduate students, and for all those concerned with strategy and change.
