Book excerpt: Despite advanced technology, the practice of water witching—using a forked stick to indicate an underground source of water—persists in both rural and urban areas. Water Witching U.S.A. is a lively look at "dowsing," full of personal accounts, historical background, and data from controlled experiments and a nationwide survey. This study includes a collection of photographs, drawings, and historical woodcuts showing the tools, techniques, and early instances of dowsing, as well as cross-sectional views contrasting the dowser's explanation of groundwater with the geologist's.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's the definitive guide for anyone who wants to master the principles and techniques of dowsing for use in agriculture, camping, or replacement of polluted or diminishing water sources. It's first a matter of a few basics of geology and land formation, and then learning how to make and use the simple dowsing equipment you need, and the different techniques that work in various sites and locations. But, most of all, it's about awakening your undeveloped intuitive and psychic skills and putting them to use in order to "contact" the underground sources where up to 90 percent of earth's fresh water is stored.

Download or read book The Divining Rod written by Arthur Jackson Ellis and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-13 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Divining Rod: A History of Water Witching The use of a forked twig, or so-called divining rod, in locating minerals, finding hidden treasure, or detecting criminals is a curious superstition that has been a subject of discussion since the middle of the Sixteenth century and still has a strong hold on the popular mind, even in this country, as is Shown by the large number of inqui ries received each year by the United States Geological Survey as to its efficacy, especially for locating underground water, and the per sistent demands that it be made a subject of investigation by the Survey. The bibliography Shows that a truly astonishing number of books and pamphlets have been written on the subject. The purpose of the present brief paper is not to add another contribution to this enormous volume of uncanny literature but merely to furnish a reply to the numerous inquiries that are continually being received from all parts of the country. The outline of the history of the sub ject presented in the following pages will probably enable most honest inquirers to appreciate the practical uselessness Of water Witching and other applications of the divining rod, but those who wish to delve further into the mysteries of the subject are referred to the literature cited in the bibliography, in which they will find reports in painful detail of exhaustive investigations and pseudo investigations of every phase of the subject and every imaginable explanation of the supposed phenomena. It is doubtful whether so much investigation and discussion have been bestowed on any other subject with such absolute lack of posi tive results. It is difficult to see how for practical purposes the entire matter could be more thoroughly discredited, and it should be obvious to everyone that further tests by the United States Geo logical Survey of this so-called Witching for water, oil, or other minerals would be a misuse of public funds. Book Synopsis The Complete Book of Dowsing & Divining by : Peter Underwood
Download or read book The Complete Book of Dowsing & Divining written by Peter Underwood and published by Peter Underwood. This book was released on 1980-08 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive volume on dowsing and divining - from the twig and the pendulum to motorscopes and bare hands - traces the story of these fascinating and enigmatic phenomena from its origins in the world of fairy tales and mythology to recent theories that the enigma can be explained in terms of present-day psychology. The force present in the act of dowsing and divining can be compared to the sensitivity of men and women suffering from rheumatism who feel, in advance, changes of weather. Theories that have been brought forward to explain its presence include suggestion, radiation, colour, the existence of a sixth sense, and changes in the earth's magnetic field. As there are many possible explanations there are also many types and applications of dowsing and divining: map dowsing; being eggs; radiesthesia; the diagnosis and cure of disease; locating missing persons; forces, fields and rays; and detecting thieves. The author tells of dowsers past and present: Robert Leftwich who located abandoned tunnels and other underground hazards; Major Harold Spary who dowsed for the Royal Aircraft Establishment and the Royal Engineers during World War II; William Young who charged £200 a day in 1971 for dowsing; Tom Lethbridge who investigated Viking graves on Lundy Island; Henry Gross who discovered Bermuda's first natural wells. Even today large building and contracting firms employ resident site engineers who use sophisticated sets of divining rods. The book introduces us, in lucid and readable style, to the fascinating world of dowsing and divining, and gives the reader full instructions on how to attempt to become one of this international community.
