Book Synopsis A Cop Walks Down Memory Lane...! by : K. Manickavasagam
Download or read book A Cop Walks Down Memory Lane...! written by K. Manickavasagam and published by Pustaka Digital Media. This book was released on 2020-05-26 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All the memories of a man in his life, whether it might be of heart-warming or heart-breaking, should not go buried along with his last breath, but should leave some inputs to his family members, relatives and friends to make them aware of his past life track for their future guidance. At the same time, if the same man happens to be a person who had served in any public service organization, then his memories should not go vanished away along with his soul. However, such memories should necessarily leave a lesson to his successors and all the common public to learn the morals and to realize the things, as to how the problems are raised in societies and how the same could be prevented. Unlike the other departmental officials of the government services, the police officials would not have an opportunity of second innings to continue their services in any other sector after their retirement, as the police service is entirely different from other services of the governing bodies, like technical, educational, medical, and commercial services. Because of this, most of the retired police officials would feel themselves isolated and spend the remaining part of their lifetime in a lackadaisical manner. Under such circumstances, it is my son Arulmurugan, and my daughter Sivasakthi, who are now living respectively in Michigan and Arizona States of USA, have suggested me to write some useful articles in blog, a kind of website, to share my thoughts in good faith with hundreds and thousands of readers over the months and years. My children's encouragement and guidance empowered me to enter into such blog-writings and publish the same in my blog site. As far as the police department is concerned in olden days, our traditional practice was to write everything manually by our own hand for all kinds of script works until the police department was modernized. As I had been accustomed for a long time only to such manual writings, I gradually learned the system related works and started to login into my blog site and write the articles directly in my blog after my superannuation. Initially, I was writing on some social issues in my blog. Then, a spark came in my mind as to why should not I write short stories in my blog, based on the cruxes of some past occurrences that came across in my police service. Since I had been in the regular habit of preparing my case diaries and the investigation reports in my own handwriting throughout my service, it was easy for me to recollect some past occurrences and shape up the same in the form of short stories, adding some spicy essence to pep up the style of writing. While writing such short stories, I shaped up the same with an object of giving some moral messages, thrill, fun, and some social thoughts to every reader, without touching the sentiments of anyone. The names of the characters in the short stories and the articles have been changed. I have spent almost all the days, after my superannuation, in writing fifty-five episodes, most of which are short stories and few are satirical article to poke fun at some social evils and injustice, with a narrative style of a professional storyteller. At this moment, I would like to make a self-explanation. Yes! Some may think as to why this Policeman has written this book in English. First, I would like to state that I love my mother tongue Tamil, the most ancient of all other languages. Anyhow, I had a little passion of learning one more language in addition to my mother tongue, because of which, I had a brief interest in grooming the English language in me. I have written this book in English with an idea of conveying my short stories and thoughts to all the people irrespective of linguistic variations and regional differences. - K.Manickavasagam Dy.Superintendent of Police (Retd)

Book Synopsis Reflections on Big Spring by : David McNellis
Download or read book Reflections on Big Spring written by David McNellis and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reflections on Big Spring is a thoughtfully researched, highly readable celebration of the rich heritage of the Genesee River Valley, Pittsford, NY and the Big Spring that drew generations of Americans to the area. The Seneca Tribe who lived in the Genesee River Valley for five centuries were the fighting elite of the Iroquois Confederacy. The author chronicles the series of seminal decisions that led to the gradual displacement and ultimate downfall of these proud indigenous people. New Englanders immigrated to the great frontier of western New York State in the early 19th century seeking the well-publicized "agricultural el dorado". These pioneers were of hearty stock and by nature, strong-willed risk-takers. From both of these sturdy gene pools came generations of brave war heroes, inspirational politicians, compassionate humanitarians, civil rights leaders, creative inventors, and revolutionary entrepreneurs. Their influence has been substantial not just locally but throughout the state, the country and the world. Follow the lives of resident humanitarians Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony as their inspired civil rights efforts make history. Consider the courage displayed by lesser-known local heroes who farmed, taught school or ran stores during the day and became "conductors" on the area's Underground Railroad after dark. Oral histories of secret passages, tunnels, caverns and hidden rooms take readers on the "last 100 miles to freedom" ride. Seamlessly woven throughout the text are fascinating facts that define the uniqueness of the Genesee River Valley. While closely tied to its agricultural roots, the area is home to several of the world's most prestigious business enterprises and was the birthplace of a wide variety of revolutionary technologies, business strategies and labor-management practices. Discover how Genesee Valley residents shared amateur photography, xerography, the UPC label, self-service groceries, white hots and cream style mustard with the world.

Download or read book Punk USA written by Kevin Prested and published by Microcosm Publishing. This book was released on 2014-11-28 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through hundreds of exclusive and original interviews, Punk USA documents an empire that was built overnight as Lookout sold millions of records and rode the wave of the second coming of punk rock until it all came crashing down. In 1987, Lawrence Livermore founded independent punk label Lookout Records to release records by his band The Lookouts. Forming a partnership with David Hayes, the label released some of the most influential recordings from California’s East Bay punk scene, including a then-teenaged Green Day. Originally operating out of a bedroom, Lookout created "The East Bay Punk sound,” with bands such as Crimpshrine, Operation Ivy, The Mr. T Experience, and many more. The label helped to pave the way for future punk upstarts and as Lookout grew, young punk entrepreneurs used the label as a blueprint to try their hand at record pressing. As punk broke nationally in the mid 90s the label went from indie outfit to having more money than it knew how to manage.

Book Synopsis Down Memory Lane: Peter Ellinger's Memoirs by : Peter Ellinger
Download or read book Down Memory Lane: Peter Ellinger's Memoirs written by Peter Ellinger and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2023-04-20 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Having reached an advanced age and living in full retirement, Peter Ellinger has written his Memoirs. His odyssey commences with his birth in Vienna in 1933, the very year in which Adolf Hitler was democratically voted into power in Germany.Part I of the tome covers Peter's escape from Austria, his years as a refugee in Italy and in France and his primary, secondary and tertiary education in Israel. He describes the pull of the Austrian idols of his home and of the Zionist outlook of the Jewish Yishuv in Palestine. He also talks about his growing up and about his attaining religious insights.Notably, when he arrived in Palestine, the country was still governed by Britain under a mandate. He witnessed the foundation of Israel and the struggle of the newly born country during its early years. For a short period, he practiced law in Tel Aviv. He discusses some of the cases handled by him and, turning to the political scene, gives a detailed account of Nasser's rise to power and the Suez Crisis. He also discusses his embarkation on Bible Critique, which has remained one of his hobbies.Part II covers Peter's years as a postgraduate student in Oxford, his move into academia and his first spell in Singapore. It deals with Singapore's development from a Crown colony into a sovereign city-state and describes its initial incorporation into the Federation of Malaysia. During this period, Peter wedded Patricia Goh, a Chinese-educated girl. Their marriage lasted for 43 years, until Patricia's death in Singapore from leukemia.Part III deals with Peter's life as a mendicant professor and with his position as teacher of law in Wellington (New Zealand), Monash (Melbourne) and his return to Singapore. During a period spent in Hamburg, he envisaged the fall of the Brandenburg Wall and the unification of the DDR with Western Germany. On the personal side, it covers his antiques collection hobby.Part IV covers Peter's second spell in Singapore, including his employment by the National University of Singapore and his experience in legal practice. Shortly after Patricia's demise, he went into full retirement. His years as retiree are discussed in the last part of the book. Having covered the past, his eyes focus on the future.Peter realises that his odyssey is not exclusive. Other of his contemporaries — with a Holocaust background — experienced their own winding journey through life. He resolved to recount his experience because in one sense it was unique: he witnessed the foundation of two states: the unification of the two German states and the collapse of the Soviet Union. Further, he adapted to environments initially alien to him.The reader will assess whether these Memoirs are worth telling.Related Link(s)
