Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bristol in the 60s and 70s was a different world. There were no phones, certainly no mobiles, and television was something you watched at a well-off neighbour’s. This is the world that Angela Skelley remembers growing up in and recounts in her nostalgia-steeped memoir It’s Wake-Up Time. Following Angela’s childhood until she emigrated to Canada, in present-tense, clearly laid out chapters of her life, the memoir will appeal both to readers who remember the post-war years and those who enjoy seeing a fragment of history from someone else’s eyes. Life could be hard, Angela and her three other siblings squashed in a tiny prefab which froze on the inside every winter. But she recalls that, in many ways, childhood for her still shares similarities with now: music, (front row seats at the Colston Hall to see the Beatles, for less than a pound), dancing (more bopping than rave, but still...), weekly visits to the cinema (lovely long sessions on a Saturday morning), boys (the good, the bad and the ugly), and family (to inspire, love, get frustrated with, lean on and push away from, take for granted and, eventually, to miss). From the first forays of the grown-up world of paid work to leaving for a new home, Angela shares her experiences in an honest, chatty account that will alternatively have you glued to the page or chuckling with delight.

Book excerpt: Who killed darlin’ Corey? In the sixth novel in the Conan Flagg series, the Oregon detective is investigating the mysterious, untimely death of his friend Corey Benbow. It seemed to Flagg that the police were asking too few questions about the fatal automobile accident that claimed the young woman’s life—especially since it was common knowledge in the town of Holiday Beach that more than one person stood to gain from her death. It wasn’t long before Flagg began unraveling motive and opportunity to disprove the verdict of accidental death in the case…and, in a chilling re-creation of the crime, to demand equal justice for the deadly conspiracy of silence that murdered Corey Benbow.

Yet that message is still lost on many women who fear that weight lifting will make them bulky, turn their skin green, and give them Incredible Hulk muscles like their boyfriends'. Women have more options than step aerobics or running on a treadmill to shed pounds: They can weight-train in a very specific manner designed to make the most of a woman's unique physiology. Lift to Get Lean is the first beginner's guide to strength training from Women's Health that is written specifically for women by a woman. Holly Perkins is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) who has been teaching the fat-burning secrets of weight training exclusively to women for more than 20 years. Perkins doesn't follow men's rules when it comes to building muscle. Her Lift to Get Lean delivers a three-step system: Technique, Movement Speed, and the Last 2 Reps Rule, which make all the difference in developing the kind of strong, lean, and sexy body women want. Perkins offers four different 90-day training programs that efficiently build functional strength along with leaner legs, stronger arms, and a sexier butt.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures (PNES) can cause blackouts, collapses, involuntary movements, loss of memory and have major impact on quality of life. Whereas epilepsy is caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain, PNES are psychological-based responses to triggers inside or outside the body that are perceived as threatening by the person affected. PNES are poorly understood by the medical community. It is common for doctors to struggle to explain this diagnosis, which can leave their patients frustrated and confused. Often people are told that their PNES are caused by "stress" and sent away with no further support or advice. It is no wonder that those affected feel isolated, abandoned and hopeless about living with the condition. In Our Words: Personal Accounts of Living with Non-Epileptic Seizures shows those diagnosed with PNES that they are not alone, and how others have courageously managed to come to terms with their seizures. These heartfelt personal accounts will also allow family, friends, healthcare providers and researchers to gain more understanding of the condition and work to provide a better quality of life to those living with PNES.

Book excerpt: IT'S TIME TO ARISE & ASCEND With loads of distractions in today's world, it's quite simple for people to slip into a trap of false perception without realizing it. An untruth of where they may fit in and their purpose in life can quickly disrupt their mindset to settle for less than the wonderful plan God has for them. Unfortunately, while the high paced society of technology and information are expediently rising- God's abundant freedom, restoration and purpose that is always available to mankind is at an alarming low within their lives. Evidence of this can be seen through the condition of people. Numerous individuals are depressed, lonely and dissatisfied with their present lifestyle - far too many of them are women. In reference to women, why has there been a drastic decline of happiness, fulfillment, love and joy within their lives? In this book, I will be exposing deception plots that have held back women from advancing in their God given purpose and will be sharing why now is the time for women to awaken to who they are in Christ, and explain how to undergo the transformation of change in order to lay hold of God's freedom, restoration, purpose and destiny for their lives. If you are a woman who desires to lay hold of God's premium for your life, then Arise & Ascend- A Woman's Cry To Freedom is for you. Book excerpt: At the beginning of World War ll ,the British Government decided to evacuate the children from the cities to safer places in the countryside, and also overseas to other countries. Really where could be safer in the country? The logic behind the plan was that IF, Hitler succeeded in occupying Great Britain, the children could return someday and take their country back. This is the story of my brother, age 4,and myself age 9,who were evacuated September 9th. 1939, to America. My brother's mother, who was my step-mother, accompanied us to elderly relatives that lived in New York State. Then for reasons known only to herself, at that time, she decided to travel back across the U-boat infested waters of the Atlantic to England. Different homes were found eventually for us which was a miracle, as there were at least 2,664, Children's Oversees Reception Board (CORB) children to find homes for. The Kodak Company's families in New York opened their homes to these British evacuees, primarily for the children of the Kodak Company in Great Britian, however they ended up taking a lot of the other children. As we had been sent privately on the S.S.Scythia, we were not included in that number. We also were returned May 8th 1944, one month before D-Day, on a Neutral Portuguese ship to Lisbon. The war did not end until May 8th 1945 so we were back in England in time for the newest German weapon the Vengence Weapon l, or Doodle bug, or Buzz-bomb. This is our War Time story of our adventures, mostly mine, told 73 years later with the memories, some good and some bad, as you will see when you read the book. Thank you for your interest. It is still facinating to me today.

Book excerpt: It's an unquestioned truth of modern life: we are starved for time. We tell ourselves we'd like to read more, get to the gym regularly, try new hobbies, and accomplish all kinds of goals. But then we give up because there just aren't enough hours to do it all. Or if we don't make excuses, we make sacrifices- taking time out from other things in order to fit it all in. There has to be a better way...and Laura Vanderkam has found one. After interviewing dozens of successful, happy people, she realized that they allocate their time differently than most of us. Instead of letting the daily grind crowd out the important stuff, they start by making sure there's time for the important stuff. When plans go wrong and they run out of time, only their lesser priorities suffer. Vanderkam shows that with a little examination and prioritizing, you'll find it is possible to sleep eight hours a night, exercise five days a week, take piano lessons, and write a novel without giving up quality time for work, family, and other things that really matter.
