Download or read book Flushed written by Gary Benzies and published by Australian Self Publishing Group. This book was released on 2020-09 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gary ‘Bendy’ Benzies was in his late forties when everything got on top. 30kg overweight, suffering from the debilitating Crohn’s disease, he spent the vast majority of his time either sat on the toilet or wondering where the next one was. And when he needed one, he needed one urgently. His knees ached, he had intolerable reflux and rattled with medication. He couldn’t travel and became a miserable recluse who could barely keep it together enough to work. Relationships were just about to snap and everything around him was falling down. Told “this was his lot” and to “just take the medication” by the medical fraternity he decided one day that enough was enough. If this was the way his life was going to go it was almost not worth living. There had to be a way back. And one day, thanks to the luminous running shoes he’d bought years earlier, he found an epiphany. This is the story of an everyday senior copper who did what he’d done for thirty years in his day job - started a journey to find the truth. Through massive lifestyle changes and years of research he found himself and healed. It is written in typical policing fashion. Hard hitting, with a dark humour and totally real. It will make you laugh, reminisce and maybe even cry. This is an empowering and enlightening book for anyone suffering from life changing chronic illness who wants to return to the child within. Now in his mid-fifties, symptom and medication free for many years and fitter, healthier and stronger than he was in his thirties, Gary tells where society has gone wrong and let us down and how we can find a way back and how you can have your cake and eat it. Book Synopsis Even More Journeys of a Lifetime by : Len Coates
Download or read book Even More Journeys of a Lifetime written by Len Coates and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2017-08-14 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I wrote my first book Journeys of a Lifetime in 2004, it reflected how dreams of mineof visiting unknown places in the UK, countries across the North Sea in Europe, and seemingly far-off continents of America, Africa, Asia, and Australiabecame a reality. That was mainly due to the advent of air travel, package holidays, and the massive growth of international travel in the second half of the twentieth century. Nine years on from that book, in my second book, our traveling had continued, and in that time, having seen the arrival of four grandchildren, naturally they have joined in some of the journeys. At that time, our fourth grandchild just made the book with her name and date and place of birth. Naturally, there was a need for another book so that she, as well as her brother and cousins, will all be able to read as they get older about their grandparents travels, and in particular, some of which included them. Although places visited in the three years since the last book include some return trips to old favorites, this book reflects only the new places visited. In particular, India, the Middle East, the Far East, Eastern Europe, and nearer home the beautiful Northeast England, it reflects the visits of the grandchildren, featured more this time. As we now have two grandchildren living in the Costa del Sol, as well as the Aussie part of the family, Spain, and Australia are now regular destinations. Although the UK is much smaller in area than those two countries, it is packed with wonderful places to visit, so trips at home are still often very much included in our travels. Added to that, cruising has taken off in the last decade a bit like package deals to Europe did in the 1960s and has provided a very enjoyable new dimension to the journeys made. Cruises are featured several times in this book. More Journeys of a Lifetime and now Even More Journeys of a Lifetime reflect the further growth in long-haul travel and the massive increase in cruising. Hope you enjoy my further travels around this small world of ours, going on from those early dreams of mine and continuing to do so!

Book Synopsis Global Community Policing by : Arvind Verma
Download or read book Global Community Policing written by Arvind Verma and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-08-06 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In nations all over the world, community policing has been found extremely beneficial in improving public confidence in the police. Community-oriented policing and police-citizen cooperation is now the accepted framework for all progressive police departments. Drawn from the proceedings at the 2010 International Police Executive Symposium (IPES) in Kerala, India and other IPES sources, Global Community Policing: Problems and Challenges presents new insights into this policing model and a critical appraisal of successes and challenges in various jurisdictions across the globe. The book begins with a chapter on how governments can design, implement, and support community policing based on lessons learned from history. Next, it explores research findings and pilot programs for community policing in eight different regions from Sweden to South Africa. Topics addressed include police safety, female empowerment, the impact of emotional intelligence on community policing, predatory leadership, operational challenges, interactions between police and persons with mental illness, and civilian policing. The book examines ways of measuring the success of police policies through citizen surveys and other methods. It also discusses Operation Weed and Seed, a community policing initiative in the United States. A valuable resource for researchers and practitioners of community-oriented policing, this book demonstrates how the practices and even some of the principles guiding the framework of community policing vary greatly across jurisdictions. By reviewing the benefits and challenges inherent in this innovative policing model, police administrators can devise systems that best meet the needs of their communities.

Book excerpt: U.S. Supreme Court justices are studied publicly, but scant attention is generally paid to the judges who function daily in other courts of the world. Trends in the Judiciary: Interviews with Judges Across the Globe assembles a collection of interviews conducted by international scholars and researchers. It provides an insider’s perspective of how members of the worldwide judiciary cope with significant legal developments and the issues they face in criminal and procedural law. The subjects of these interviews administer justice in Australia, Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, the Republic of Slovenia, Canada, India, and the United States. Representing a variety of cultures, political environments, and economic systems, the interviewees each discuss their background, education, and career; their judicial role; the major changes and challenges they have experienced; and the relationship between theory and practice. In addition to the candid observations of the interview subject, each chapter provides a brief portrait of the national judicial system and court in which each judge serves. Continuing the work of the International Police Executive Symposium (IPES) and the CRC Press series Interviews with Global Leaders in Policing, Courts, and Prisons, the book enhances readers’ understanding of the judiciary and opens a dialogue between scholars, researchers, and practitioners. It is a major contribution to the study and practice of judging around the world.
