Book excerpt: When a mysterious dossier of letters and photographs was discovered at an abandoned Spanish villa, the author embarked upon a passionate journey to resurrect its owner in this first comprehensive biography. Lauded by luminaries of his epoch, Baron Rudolph von Ripper (1905-60) was an Austrian aristocrat and international wanderer with the temerity to resist the tyrannical Third Reich - both as a soldier and an artist - whilst the world was apparently coming to an end. Ripper's remarkable depictions of human beings under duress reveal an artistic talent that stands comparison with his contemporaries George Grosz, Otto Dix, and KAthe Kollwitz. During the Cold War Ripper acted as a CIA agent and settled in Mallorca, his 'haven of peace and beauty', closely pursued by his wartime enemies. Sian Mackay lived in Egypt and the USA before returning to her native Scotland as a freelance journalist with the Glasgow Herald and Times Educational Supplement. Later she divided her time between Scotland and Spain and wrote several highly praised books

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lodger is the first known novelization of the Jack the Ripper story. It follows the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Bunting, a maid and butler. An eccentric lodger, Mr. Sleuth, arrives at their lodging-house just as a wave of horrific murders begins to sweep London. The Buntings become engrossed in the newspaper sensationalism as well the detailed accounts of their young friend, a Scotland Yard detective. Lowndes first wrote The Lodger as a short story published in McClure’s Magazine, then later published the novelization in the Daily Telegraph as a serial. It was very successful, with over a million copies sold within a few decades. Writers like Ernest Hemingway and Gertrude Stein praised it, with one contemporary reviewer calling it “the best novel about murder written by any living author.” It has since been adapted to other media, notably as one of Alfred Hitchcock’s first movies. Today the novel is still considered the best fictional adaptation of the Jack the Ripper legend. This book is part of the Standard Ebooks project, which produces free public domain ebooks.

This book was released on 2022-03-19T22:59:00Z with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 The most enduring and tenacious iteration of America’s World War II myth is the decription that the United States went to war to liberate the world from fascism and tyranny. #2 The first tenet of American exceptionalism, which claims that the consequences of our intervention are equivalent to the causes we fight for, ignores the timing and proximate catalyst of our entry into the war. #3 The sixth and final tenet of the American dissent process is amnesia, similar to what Martha Gellhorn called in describing the revisionist history of the Vietnam War crafted by the Reagan administration. #4 The books by Steven Ambrose that fueled the national fascination with the World War II generation were based on his association with Eisenhower, and his adoration of the GIs who fought in the war. They largely ignore any contradictions or complexities that might be disruptive to a sentimental account of American decency and goodness.

From the hit Tumblr blog of the same name, F*ck! I'm in My Twenties perfectly captures the new generation currently testing the waters of post-college reality. Quick-witted and self-deprecating, the author pens irreverent missives, DIY diagrams, illustrations, and tongue-in-cheek checklists that chronicle her experience as a twenty-something living in the big city. Download or read book Rafael's Wings written by Sian Mackay and published by Kennedy & Boyd. This book was released on 2006 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Her life as she knows it in Scotland is over. Ornithologist Luisa Ross embarks on an odyssey to Spain where, during the course of a lonely fieldwork assignment in the mountains of Mallorca, she discovers an extraordinary and mysterious world. The people who inhabit it - the enigmatic Anita Berens, the Ferrer family, the journalist Colin Cramer, her nature conservancy colleagues, Julio and Felipe, and the shaman Rafael Vargas - challenge her preconceptions at every turn. Isolated on the mountain she gets on with her field study and struggles to avoid the distractions of the nearby town. But there is no escape, and soon she finds herself confronting the severest challenge of her life so far. Comments about the author's work: The lyrical, lucid text takes the reader on a wonderfully vivid journey . . . . The Herald . . . she spins a web of words . . . . The Scotsman I would recommend it to anyone searching for the inherent magic and poetry that makes Mallorca such a special place. The Reader Sian Mackay lived for several years in Egypt and North America before returning to her native Scotland to bring up her son and daughter and work as a journalist. She founded Moubray House Press in Edinburgh's Royal Mile and later wrote several non-fiction books (as Sheila Mackay) including Lindisfarne Landscapes, Mountain Music: Mallorca, The Forth Bridge and Early Scottish Gardens: A Writer's Odyssey. By 1992 Spain had become her 'home from home', and Mallorca was the seedbed for a further literary transition, where the grandeur of the Sierra de Tramuntana and its mountain towns inspired Rafael's Wings.
Book Synopsis Jack the Ripper's New Testament by : Nigel Graddon
Download or read book Jack the Ripper's New Testament written by Nigel Graddon and published by SCB Distributors. This book was released on 2019-09-12 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers evidence, for the first time, that those responsible for the Whitechapel murders were members of a hit team associated with a centuries-old European occult confederacy dedicated to human sacrifice. This was first mooted by Jim Keith in his 1993 book Secret and Suppressed, and then corroborated in the private papers of a Monsignor who carried out intelligence work for Pope Pius X in the run-up to the outbreak of global conflict in 1914. The priest told of the existence of a Vatican-based cabal of assassins (known to its members by the maxim “Dead Men Carry No Tales”) formed by the infamous Borgias that is in alliance with a Teuton occult group formed in the 9th century. It was from within this unholy alliance that assassins travelled to London to carry out the Ripper murders to “solve a sticky problem for the British Royal Family” (Keith’s Vatican informant). Part of the substantiation for this evidence derives from Joseph Farrell in his recent Hess and the Penguins book for AUP. The evidence also substantiates Keith’s informant’s astonishing claim that the assassins came together in a conference in Basle in 1897 to put the building blocks together for National Socialism and to prepare the blueprint for the Holocaust. For the first time also, the book substantiates a new line of research that suggests that the work of key figures from America and Britain within the nineteenth-century’s highly influential and richly funded Bible Revision movement was associated with the grisly events in London’s East End during 1888’s Autumn of Terror. Topics include: “Mr. Splitfoot”; Whitechapel; Martha; HPB; “Polly”; The Occult Underground; “Dark Annie”; The Occult Establishment; “Long Liz”; The Lady with the Lilacs; From Lilacs to Violets—Mary Kelly; Baconalia; “Rothschild’s” Bible; Basle, 1897; Through the Looking Glass; more.
