Book excerpt: God created man in His own image, and this is reflected in the human beings we see these days. According to anthropology, paleontology and astronomy, this universe was created almost 15 billion years ago. By evolution and based on scientific evidence, humans (Homo sapiens) were identified between 200 and 300 years ago. When such facts are witness to my thinking, my theory is as follows: It took God more than 15 billion years to create humans in His own image. Step by step, I have put in order the various phases of evolution. At last, God found an image similar to Himself and called him “man.” My main characters in the story are Pikaia Gracilens, a boneless sea creature (refer Google), mice, crocodiles, cockroaches, ants, frogs, monkeys and finally, God. God is depicted as an old scientist similar to Eisenstein with mangled laboratories all around Him; then, in some corner, the universe is portrayed with all planets, meteoroids and so on.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Permanent Married Quarters of a naval base to the little white house at the end of the road, Lynda M. Buckman and her family have lived a life of fun, adventure, and great love. Military service in their young adulthood and early marriage gave the author and her husband the tools they needed to facilitate strong communication throughout their now five-decades’ long partnership, including in their roles as parents, entrepreneurs, homesteaders, and hobby farmers. In four parts, each encompassing a different home, the author recounts her tales of lessons learned in short anecdotes that are at once comfortingly universal and delightfully original. Told with humour and a lot of heart, The Journey to a Little White House is the story of a wistful dream that became a beautiful reality.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Radical Transformation, Imants Barušs leads the reader out of the receding materialist paradigm into an emerging post-materialist landscape in which new questions present themselves. If consciousness has nonlocal properties, then how are boundaries between events established? If consciousness directly modulates physical manifestation, then what is the scope of such modulation? If consciousness continues after physical death, then how much interference is there from non-physical entities? As we face the threat of extinction on this planet, is there anything in recent consciousness research that can help us? Are there effective means of self-transformation that can be used to enter persistent transcendent states of consciousness that could resolve existential and global crises? The author leads the reader through discussions of meaning, radical transformation, and subtle activism, revealing the unexpected interplay of consciousness and reality along the way.

Through a series of short, true-life stories, written by professionals engaged in animal assisted interventions, The Gifts We Receive from Animals reminds readers of the core essence of the human animal bond and the reason behind the growing phenomenon of animal assisted interventions. Readers will learn, for example, about the young child who shares her inner most thoughts with a dog and, as a result, learns how to talk with people; the soldier who feels comfortable and safe with a dog, a feeling he has been lacking since active duty; and the elderly adult who works through difficult physical therapy because of his therapy dog. The Gifts We Receive from Animals takes readers on a delightful journey, offering insights into the unique impact animals have in the lives of those they help.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'The world has entered the urban millennium. Nearly half the world's people are now city dwellers, and the rapid increase in urban population is expected to continue, mainly in developing countries. This historic transition is being further propelled by the powerful forces of globalization. The central challenge for the international community is clear: to make both urbanization and globalization work for all people, instead of leaving billions behind or on the margins. Cities in a Globalizing World: Global Report on Human Settlements is a comprehensive review of conditions in the world's cities and the prospects for making them better, safer places to live in an age of globalization. I hope that it will provide all stakeholders - foremost among them the urban poor themselves - with reliable and timely information with which to set our policies right and get the machinery of urban life moving in a constructive direction.' From the Foreword by Kofi Annan, Secretary-General, United Nations. Cities in a Globalizing World presents a comprehensive review of the world's cities and analyses the positive and negative impacts on human settlements of the global trends towards social and economic integration and the rapid changes in information and communication technologies. In this Global Report, the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements (Habitat) draws on specially commissioned and contributed background papers from more than 80 leading international specialists. The report focuses on recent trends in human settlements and their implications for poverty, inequity and social polarization. It develops advance knowledge for urban planning and management policies in support and promotion of inclusive cities and good urban governance. This major and influential report is the most authoritative and up-to-date assessment of human settlements conditions and trends. Written in clear, non-technical language and supported by informative graphics, case studies and extensive statistical data, it should be an essential tool and reference for academics, researchers, planners, public authorities and civil society organizations around the world.
