Lucy Brown's world transforms when she is adopted by billionaire James Washington, the owner of the enchanting yet eerie Washington Manor. For the first time, she feels a sense of belonging, and her vivid imagination finds a playground amid the ancient walls echoing with whimsical whispers of Fantoria-the cradle of imagination and the birthplace of imaginary friends. But darkness lurks as Lucy uncovers a staggering truth: James is the displaced King Vladimir Victorious of Fantoria, dethroned by the traitor known only as Heartless, who traded his own heart for dark magic. The sinister coup left James split in two-a rapidly aging man in the human world and his youthful, magical self trapped in Fantoria. With Heartless severing the magical link between the worlds, Lucy's mysterious key might be the only hope to restore the rightful king and rekindle the magic that fuels Fantoria. Venturing into Fantoria, Lucy seeks the youthful Vladimir to unite against the malevolent Heartless. Together, they must reclaim the throne, reunite the fragmented king, and mend the severed bond between the worlds. Amidst peril, they will discover that the true journey of the heart is forging the bonds that guide us back home. From JQ Sirls comes a mesmerizing tale where destiny intertwines with dreams, shadows conceal secrets, and the magic of imagination reigns supreme.

Book Synopsis Encountering Others, Understanding Ourselves in Medieval and Early Modern Thought by : Nicolas Faucher
Download or read book Encountering Others, Understanding Ourselves in Medieval and Early Modern Thought written by Nicolas Faucher and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2022-12-05 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent research has challenged our view of the Abrahamic religious traditions as unilaterally intolerant and incapable of recognizing otherness in all its diversity and richness; but a diachronic and comparative study of how these traditions deal with otherness is yet to appear. This volume aims to contribute to such a study by presenting different treatments of otherness in medieval and early modern thought. Part I: Altruism deals with attitudes and behaviors that benefit others, regardless of its motives. We deal with the social rights and emotions as well as the moral obligations that the very existence of other human beings, whatever their characteristics, creates for a community. Part II: Religious recognition and toleration considers identity, toleration and mutual recognition created by the existence of religious or ethnic otherness in a given social, religious or political community. Part III: Evil deals with religious otherness that is considered evil and rejected such as heretics and malevolent, demonic entities. The volume will ultimately inform the reader on the nature of religious toleration (including beliefs and doctrines, even emotions) as well as of the self-definition of religious communities when encountering and defining otherness in different ways.

Book Synopsis The Victorious Counterrevolution by : Michael Seidman
Download or read book The Victorious Counterrevolution written by Michael Seidman and published by Univ of Wisconsin Press. This book was released on 2011-02-24 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking history of the Spanish Civil War (1936–39) examines, for the first time in any language, how General Francisco Franco and his Nationalist forces managed state finance and economic production, and mobilized support from elites and middle-class Spaniards, to achieve their eventual victory over Spanish Republicans and the revolutionary left. The Spanish Nationalists are exceptional among counter-revolutionary movements of the twentieth century, Michael Seidman demonstrates, because they avoided the inflation and shortages of food and military supplies that stymied not only their Republican adversaries but also their counter-revolutionary counterparts—the Russian Whites and Chinese Nationalists. He documents how Franco’s highly repressive and tightly controlled regime produced food for troops and civilians; regular pay for soldiers, farmers, and factory workers; and protection of property rights for both large and small landowners. These factors, combined with the Nationalists’ pro-Catholic and anti-Jewish propaganda, reinforced solidarity in the Nationalist zone. Seidman concludes that, unlike the victorious Spanish Nationalists, the Russian and Chinese bourgeoisie were weakened by the economic and social upheaval of the two world wars and succumbed in each case to the surging revolutionary left.
