Book excerpt: Lire, écrire et calculer!!! Ces trois termes fondamentaux sont utilisés tout au long d'une vie. Malheureusement, aujourd'hui encore, ces bases de l'éducation scolaire ne sont pas acquises par tous. Ils ont entre 32 et 47 ans et ont un emploi. Pourtant, ils sont illettrés. Ils ont quitté l'école obligatoire avec des lacunes en lecture, écriture et/ou calcul. Néanmoins, ils ont pu se former à exercer un métier et même décrocher un emploi. Mon travail de recherche s'intéresse aux stratégies utilisées par des personnes jugées illettrées mais ayant un emploi. Les personnes en situation d'illettrisme ont choisi un emploi nécessitant peu de tâches écrites. Cependant, pour garder leur emploi et pour paraître comme un employé " ordinaire ", elles ont mis au point des stratégies de contournement à l'écrit. Celles-ci varient selon la situation à laquelle la personne est confrontée. En effet, certaines personnes dépendront de leur entourage (famille, amis, collègues de travail) en leur demandant d'effectuer ou de corriger leurs écrits. D'autres préfèreront faire appel à leurs compétences de mémorisation ou de communication pour éviter d'écrire devant d'autres personnes. D'autres encore, prétexteront devant leur interlocuteur, une excuse telle que " je n'ai pas le temps maintenant, je le ferai plus tard ", ce qui leur permettra de fuir tout rapport à l'écrit. De plus, ces personnes ont une estime d'elles assez négative. Toutefois, celle-ci peut néanmoins s'améliorer grâce au travail qui représente une source d'intégration importante. Les personnes en situation d'illettrisme prennent conscience qu'elles sont capables de réaliser des choses et peuvent se sentir reconnues dans leur activité professionnelle. Aujourd'hui, la satisfaction de leur emploi et du chemin parcouru pour pallier à leurs difficultés les rend fières d'elles-mêmes. Malgré tout, le sentiment d'avoir été limitées dans le choix de leur profession reste omniprésent. Enfin, l'illettrisme au travail est une problémat.
