Download or read book La mort intime written by Marie de Hennezel and published by Robert Laffont. This book was released on 2001 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Rimbaud by : Jean Nicholas Arthur Rimbaud
Download or read book Rimbaud written by Jean Nicholas Arthur Rimbaud and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2010-05-15 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The enfant terrible of French letters, Jean-Nicholas-Arthur Rimbaud (1854-91) was a defiant and precocious youth who wrote some of the most remarkable prose and poetry of the nineteenth century, all before leaving the world of verse by the age of twenty-one. More than a century after his death, the young rebel-poet continues to appeal to modern readers as much for his turbulent life as for his poetry; his stormy affair with fellow poet Paul Verlaine and his nomadic adventures in eastern Africa are as iconic as his hallucinatory poems and symbolist prose. The first translation of the poet's complete works when it was published in 1966, Rimbaud: Complete Works, Selected Letters introduced a new generation of Americans to the alienated genius—among them the Doors's lead singer Jim Morrison, who wrote to translator Wallace Fowlie to thank him for rendering the poems accessible to those who "don't read French that easily." Forty years later, the book remains the only side-by-side bilingual edition of Rimbaud's complete poetic works. Thoroughly revising Fowlie's edition, Seth Whidden has made changes on virtually every page, correcting errors, reordering poems, adding previously omitted versions of poems and some letters, and updating the text to reflect current scholarship; left in place are Fowlie's literal and respectful translations of Rimbaud's complex and nontraditional verse. Whidden also provides a foreword that considers the heritage of Fowlie's edition and adds a bibliography that acknowledges relevant books that have appeared since the original publication. On its fortieth anniversary, Rimbaud remains the most authoritative—and now, completely up-to-date—edition of the young master's entire poetic ouvre.

Book Synopsis Éasme: Sa penséet son comportement by : Léon–E. Halkin
Download or read book Éasme: Sa penséet son comportement written by Léon–E. Halkin and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-10-28 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of Professor Halkin's articles forms a complement to his recent biography of Erasmus of Rotterdam. The articles published here are concerned with his activities and his behaviour, and describe parts of what may be called his spiritual and intellectual itinerary, different aspects of his thought, or different chapters of his life. The personality of Erasmus continues to make a striking impact upon those who read him, but that it is hard to define it clearly or simply may be seen from the variety of differing judgements scholars have made. The last of the great Latin writers, the author of more than a hundred works, he strove hard to disseminate his ideas: with his books he expounded the theories of Christian humanism; in his treatises and letters he incessantly preached peace; right to the end of his life he worked for the reform of the Church. These themes recur in these articles, but, in Professor Halkin's view, it is his faith, his militant and uncompromising Christianity which gives his character its unity.

Download or read book Post-Conflict Performance, Film and Visual Arts written by Des O'Rawe and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-28 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on a range of cities and conflicts from Europe, Africa and the Middle East, the collection explores the post-conflict condition as it is lived and expressed in modern cities such as Berlin, Belfast, Bilbao, Beirut, Derry, Skopje, Sarajevo, Tunis, Johannesburg and Harare. Post-Conflict Performance, Film and Visual Arts: Cities of Memory investigates how the memory of conflict can be inscribed in historical monuments, human bodies and hermeneutic acts of mapping, traversing, representing, and performing the city. Several essays explore the relations between memory, history and urban space; where memory is located and how it is narrated, as well as various aspects of embodied memory; testimonial memory; traumatic memory; counter-memory; false memory; post-memory. Other essays examine the representations of post-war cities and how cultural imaginations relate to the politics of reconstruction in places devastated by protracted urban warfare. Post-Conflict Performance, Film and Visual Arts: Cities of Memory offers a comparative survey of the complex and often controversial encounters between public art, political memory and commemoration in divided societies, as well as offering insights into the political and ethical difficulties of balancing the dynamics of forgetting and remembering.
