Book Synopsis A Collection of Sermons for Every Occasion by : George Thompson
Download or read book A Collection of Sermons for Every Occasion written by George Thompson and published by WestBowPress. This book was released on 2014-01-08 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two elements are vital in preaching a sermon: the correct blending of the sermon and the actual act of preaching. Gospel sermons must be prepared to meet all the needs of humankind. We should explain our sermons so that the audience could understand. We should use strong verbs and short sentences. To enjoy the fullness of Gods blessings of protection, deliverance, and security, the people of God need to digest divine sermons. The sooner we understand that God is the one who has the final authority over all, the better off we will be. Avoid wasting a lot of energy worrying about things that are already under his control. God is still at work. Mankind should seek every opportunity to be converted. The term conversion refers to the human response to the gospel. Conversion requires the commitment of the total personality, intellect, emotion, and will. This is how people respond to the message of the gospel when they understand the nature of Christs atonement. They feel the guilt of conviction, love God, and surrender their wills to the offer of salvation. Satans forces of darkness are highly structured for the most destructive purposes. Therefore sermons with spiritual strength and courage are needed for our spiritual warfare. If you want to win the struggle against sin, depression, evil thoughts, immoral behavior, and demonic bondage, then submit to divine sermons. If we are not listening to divine sermons, we will drift off Gods pathway and be controlled by the old nature and its appetites.
Book Synopsis Text-Driven Preaching by : Dr. Daniel L. Akin
Download or read book Text-Driven Preaching written by Dr. Daniel L. Akin and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2010-07-01 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Text-Driven Preaching features essays by Daniel L. Akin, Paige Patterson, David Alan Black, Jerry Vines, Hershael York, David L. Allen, Bill Bennett, Ned L. Mathews, Robert Vogel, and Jim Shaddix urging pastors to commit to presenting true expository preaching from the pulpit. Concerned over what some church leaders even consider to be expository preaching today, they agree, “This book rests firmly on the biblical and theological foundation for exposition: God has spoken.” Capturing the urgency and spirit of these writings in the book’s preface, co-editor Allen notes, “The church today is anemic spiritually for many reasons, but one of the major reasons has to be the loss of biblical content in so much of contemporary preaching. Pop psychology substitutes for the Word of God . . . in the headlong rush to be relevant, People magazine and popular television shows have replaced Scripture as sermonic resources.”
Book Synopsis How Effective Sermons End by : Ben Awbrey
Download or read book How Effective Sermons End written by Ben Awbrey and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-07-21 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extremely rare is the preacher whose preaching could not be improved substantially by readdressing his sermon conclusions! Moreover, a sermon conclusion marks the typical preacher’s greatest need for improvement in his preaching. This most significant element of a sermon has been championed for its importance in a sermon and yet the conclusion is trivialized in, if not omitted from, the preaching of sermons. Whether textual, topical, or expository in preaching methodology, the typical preacher has a greater understanding and better implementation of everything else related to preaching in contrast to what is understood and done in concluding sermons. Much is not done, and much more is not understood to conclude sermons with clarity, strength, and persuasiveness. How Effective Sermons End provides a comprehensive approach and thorough examination of the sorely needed and long overlooked instruction regarding that most vital of all elements of a sermon—the sermon conclusion. This book fills the existing void in homiletical pedagogy about concluding sermons, a void that prevents preachers from reaching their full potential of effectiveness in the ministry of preaching the Word of God. The pathway of better preaching is knowledge and skill to effectively conclude sermons and this book floods that pathway with light.

Book Synopsis A Way with Words by : Adam T. Trambley
Download or read book A Way with Words written by Adam T. Trambley and published by Church Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-04-17 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A vital resource for pastors who seek to transform the culture of their church A Way with Words demonstrates the power of the weekly sermon to change the culture of a congregation. Using the analogy of language learning, Adam Trambley shows how a consistent ministry focus over an eighteen-month period can help a church address areas that inhibit growth even as the pastor preaches on a diversity of subjects or uses a lectionary. The author explores how important focused preaching can be to moving church development forward and offers a long-term strategy particularly helpful for pastors looking to take full advantage of the opportunities their weekly sermons provide. Each chapter includes discussion questions and practical exercises that can be used as part of a preaching group or seminary class, or to aid the solo pastor in preparing dynamic sermons. This is a topic not generally taught in seminary, but vital for pastors who wear many hats as preachers, pastoral caregivers, and administrative leaders.
