Book excerpt: This volume was first published by Inter-Disciplinary Press in 2013. Fashion-Wise offers an interdisciplinary and transcultural approach to the phenomenon of fashion, investigating its historical, socio-political and artistic aspects. The chapters collected in the volume discuss fashion in the contexts of personal and national identity, gender politics, phenomenology, psychoanalysis, history, consumer culture, ethics, education, performance studies, authenticity, disability studies, sport and celebrity culture. The authors included in this seven-part volume not only comment on the ways in which we have been ‘consuming’ fashion across centuries and cultures but also explore its relevance as a critical subject in cultural studies.
Download or read book Visionaire 18 written by Stephen Gan and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Every issue of Visionaire is, to some degree, about fashion, but Issue 18, was the first all-out Fashion Special. Forty-four artists, photographers, and image-makers were asked to give their personal interpretation of clothing selected from the collections of forty-five of the world's most innovative and influential fashion designers. Highlights of the issue included Nan Goldin's collaboration with Helmut Lang, Jurgen Teller shooting Hussein Chalayan, Terry Richardson's take on John Bartlett, and Craig McDean's nine-page life-size foldout featuring Comme des Garcons. But the real surprise was the packaging: a deluxe monogrammed portfolio designed and produced specially for Visionaire by Louis Vuitton. People went wild. Some couldn't believe that the case was real. By the time the launch party was thrown at Mr. Chow in New York City some three weeks after the issue appeared, all 2,500 copies had sold out. It is among the most rare and sought-after back issues. Needless to say, we wish we had done a limited-edition run of ten thousand." -- Publisher's website.

Book Synopsis The Order of Minims in Seventeenth-Century France by : P.J.S. Whitmore

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thinking of the text from the Dies frae (S. Matthew, XXV, 40). It is also probable that this other Saint Francis, partly out of admiration for his illustrious compatriot of Assisi and partly from a compelling urge to be superlative in all things, chose the title in opposition to the Franciscans, the Fratres Minori, l who had previously adopted this style taken from Saint Matthew, XXIII, 8. The title "Minim" was confirmed in these words" ... eosque Eremitos Ordinis Minimorum Fratrum Eremitarum F. Francesci de Paula in posterum nuncupari," taken from the Papal Bull, Meritis religiosae vitae, of 26 February, 1493. The earliest reference to the Order in France is in a fragment preserved in the Bibliotheque de l'Arsenal called, La regle et vie de Frere Franfois, pauvre et humble hermite de Paule, laquelle donne a tous ses 2 freres voulant entrer et vivre en son ordre. The dating of this manuscript should be accepted with considerable reserve; it bears a clearly legible "1474," although it seems most unlikely that any reference to an Order occurred before the Bull of 1493 or that any Rule appeared in French before the Founder's visit to Louis XI in 1483. 3 The fame of Francis and his reputation as a "guerisseur" had reached the French court where Louis XI was sick and dying; the King summoned him to the chateau of Le Plessis-Ies-Tours, but it required the intervention of the Pope to make the hermit undertake the journey
