Book Synopsis Hypersonic Flow Research by : F.R. Riddell
Download or read book Hypersonic Flow Research written by F.R. Riddell and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 769 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress in Astronautics and Rocketry, Volume 7: Hypersonic Flow Research compiles papers presented at a conference on hypersonics held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in August 1961. This book discusses the low Reynolds number effects, chemical kinetics effects, inviscid flow calculations, and experimental techniques relating to the problems in acquiring an understanding of hypersonic flow. The structure and composition of hypersonic wakes with attendant complex chemical kinetic effects is only briefly mentioned. This text consists of five parts. Parts A to C comprise of theoretical papers on the problems of calculating flow fields at hypersonic speeds. The experimental techniques that are of immediate practical interest in view of the difficulty of flight testing are discussed in Parts D and E. This publication is beneficial to engineers involved in advanced design problems.

Book Synopsis Separated Flow Phenomena on a Slender Cone at Mach 5 by : Robert H. Feldhuhn
Download or read book Separated Flow Phenomena on a Slender Cone at Mach 5 written by Robert H. Feldhuhn and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation illustrating some separated flow phenomena associated with highly inclined circular cones was conducted at a nominal Mach number of 5 and at nominal free stream Reynolds numbers per foot of 4,800,000. Surface static pressure measurements, Pitot pressure surveys, schlieren photographs, vapor screen photographs, and surface sublimation measurements were obtained on a sharp 5 degree semi-vertex angle cone at angles of attack up to 40 degrees. The static pressure distribution along the most leeward meridian generator was found to be dependent upon the Reynolds number based upon the distance from the vertex of the cone. The vapor screen photographs at 40 degrees angle of attack indicate the existence of imbedded shock waves in the flow field on the leeward side of the cone. The Pitot tube surveys and the surface sublimation photographs indicate the existence of a region of attached flow near the leeward meridian plane. The surface sublimation photographs also indicate the possible existence of a secondary vortex. (Author).
Book Synopsis Hypersonic Flow Theory by : Wallace Hayes
Download or read book Hypersonic Flow Theory written by Wallace Hayes and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hypersonic Flow Theory presents the fundamentals of fluid mechanics, focusing on the hypersonic flow theory and approaches in theoretical aerodynamics. This book discusses the assumptions underlying hypersonic flow theory, unified supersonic-hypersonic similitude, two-dimensional and axisymmetric bodies, and circular cylinder. The constant-streamtube-area approximation, streamtube-continuity methods, and tangent-wedge and tangent-cone are also deliberated. This text likewise covers the similar laminar boundary layer solutions, bluntness induced interactions on slender bodies, and free molecule transfer theory. The dynamics of hypersonic flight or hypersonic wing theory, magnetohydrodynamic theory, or any developments involving treatment of the Boltzmann equation are not included. This publication is intended for hypersonic aerodynamicists, students, and researchers conducting work on the hypersonic flow phenomena.
Book Synopsis The Drag of Slightly Blunted Slender Cones by : W. Carson Lyons (Jr.)
Download or read book The Drag of Slightly Blunted Slender Cones written by W. Carson Lyons (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computer program is presented for calculating the various components comprising the total drag coefficient for slightly blunted slender cones. The program is applicable for either the case of a completely laminar boundary layer or where transition occurs on the cone. Weak viscous interaction effects are taken into account. Local flow properties which exist at the outer edge of the boundary layer along the cone are also computed. (Author).

Book Synopsis Hypersonic and High Temperature Gas Dynamics by : John David Anderson
Download or read book Hypersonic and High Temperature Gas Dynamics written by John David Anderson and published by AIAA. This book was released on 1989 with total page 710 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a self-contained text for those students and readers interested in learning hypersonic flow and high-temperature gas dynamics. It assumes no prior familiarity with either subject on the part of the reader. If you have never studied hypersonic and/or high-temperature gas dynamics before, and if you have never worked extensively in the area, then this book is for you. On the other hand, if you have worked and/or are working in these areas, and you want a cohesive presentation of the fundamentals, a development of important theory and techniques, a discussion of the salient results with emphasis on the physical aspects, and a presentation of modern thinking in these areas, then this book is also for you. In other words, this book is designed for two roles: 1) as an effective classroom text that can be used with ease by the instructor, and understood with ease by the student; and 2) as a viable, professional working tool for engineers, scientists, and managers who have any contact in their jobs with hypersonic and/or high-temperature flow.

Book Synopsis An Experimental Investigation of the Flow Field Around a Yawed Cone by : Robert H. Feldhuhn
Download or read book An Experimental Investigation of the Flow Field Around a Yawed Cone written by Robert H. Feldhuhn and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation of the flow field associated with a highly yawed cone was conducted at a Mach number of 5 and a free-stream Reynolds number per foot of 4,400,000. Surface static pressure measurements, flow-field surveys and schlieren photographs were obtained on a sharp five-degree semi-vertex angle cone at an angle of attack of 24 degrees. The results of the measurements indicate that the flow field on the leeward side of a highly yawed cone is very similar to that of a circular cylinder in supersonic cross flow. The essential difference between these two flow fields is the presence of a disturbance from the tip of the cone which separates the gas which has passed through the shock wave on the windward side from the flow which has passed through the weaker portion of the shock wave on the leeward side of the cone.
