Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About 80 participants from 16 countries attended the Conference on Numerical Methods for Free Boundary Problems, held at the University of Jyviiskylii, Finland, July 23-27, 1990. The main purpose of this conference was to provide up-to-date information on important directions of research in the field of free boundary problems and their numerical solutions. The contributions contained in this volume cover the lectures given in the conference. The invited lectures were given by H.W. Alt, V. Barbu, K-H. Hoffmann, H. Mittelmann and V. Rivkind. In his lecture H.W. Alt considered a mathematical model and existence theory for non-isothermal phase separations in binary systems. The lecture of V. Barbu was on the approximate solvability of the inverse one phase Stefan problem. K-H. Hoff mann gave an up-to-date survey of several directions in free boundary problems and listed several applications, but the material of his lecture is not included in this proceedings. H.D. Mittelmann handled the stability of thermo capillary convection in float-zone crystal growth. V. Rivkind considered numerical methods for solving coupled Navier-Stokes and Stefan equations. Besides of those invited lectures mentioned above there were 37 contributed papers presented. We shall briefly outline the topics of the contributed papers: Stefan like problems. Modelling, existence and uniqueness.

Book Synopsis Keller-Box Method and Its Application by : Kuppalapalle Vajravelu
Download or read book Keller-Box Method and Its Application written by Kuppalapalle Vajravelu and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2014-08-19 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of the problems arising in science and engineering are nonlinear. They are inherently difficult to solve. Traditional analytical approximations are valid only for weakly nonlinear problems, and often break down for problems with strong nonlinearity. This book presents the current theoretical developments and applications of the Keller-box method to nonlinear problems. The first half of the book addresses basic concepts to understand the theoretical framework for the method. In the second half of the book, the authors give a number of examples of coupled nonlinear problems that have been solved by means of the Keller-box method. The particular area of focus is on fluid flow problems governed by nonlinear equation.

Book Synopsis Interfacial Fluid Mechanics by : Vladimir S. Ajaev
Download or read book Interfacial Fluid Mechanics written by Vladimir S. Ajaev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-02-07 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interfacial Fluid Mechanics: A Mathematical Modeling Approach provides an introduction to mathematical models of viscous flow used in rapidly developing fields of microfluidics and microscale heat transfer. The basic physical effects are first introduced in the context of simple configurations and their relative importance in typical microscale applications is discussed. Then, several configurations of importance to microfluidics, most notably thin films/droplets on substrates and confined bubbles, are discussed in detail. Topics from current research on electrokinetic phenomena, liquid flow near structured solid surfaces,evaporation/condensation, and surfactant phenomena are discussed in the later chapters.

Download or read book River Mechanics written by M.S. Yalin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding the mechanism and behaviour of rivers flowing in alluvium is a most challenging subject. The conditions presented by a natural river are far from simple: the flow varies with location and time, and the granular structure and cohesive properties of the alluvium are rarely homogeneous. River Mechanics addresses this subject and aims to improve the understanding and formulation of the fluvial processes which occur in rivers. Topics covered include the interpretation of turbulence in the light of recent advances in the field, and current thinking on the regime concept.
