Betrayal and deceit lurk within the opulent palace walls, shattering the fragile trust between the two sides. Caught in the crossfire, Ravi must fight not just for his life, but for the fragile hope of peace. Book excerpt: "The Life/Death Rhythms of Ancient Empires" outlines the flow of history from 3000BC to 1400AD to identify the factors that make up dominant, just, prosperous civilisations that can be described as golden cultures. These factors were found to have common features and the cultures themselves could be described in cyclical terms. This meant that the rise and fall of future dominant cultures could be roughly forecast to some degree in terms of hundreds of years. The evolution of capitalism was made possible, during and after actual warfare, by ancient priests and bankers, assisted by the invention of coinage. Capitalism was practised in the ancient world, supported at times by warfare and religion. It was vanquished for centuries by powerful weapons called irresponsible debt, and debasement of currency. The global capitalism of the twenty-first century is dependent on debt and a debased US dollar. A review of ancient history provides the basis for a glimpse into the future. This century's global temperature increase, which so excites environmentalists, can be shown to be part of a thousand year climate cycle. There well might be a human element to global warming but this just exacerbates the centuries' long cyclical pattern. Research has shown that periods of hot-dry and cold-dry climate have effects on human behaviour. Extrapolation of cycles enables forecasts of human behaviour to be made well into the new millennium. Dominant prosperous societies have occurred at roughly 200 year intervals which can suggest time-lines for societies in the present and the future A relatively irreverent history of ancient cultures, war, religion, money and debt produces cyclical analysis enabling a forecast that the USA might lose world dominance in 2040. The next volume "Life/Death Rhythms from the Capitalist Renaissance" will include economic data that will allow refined cyclical forecasts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ebbs and Flows of Medieval Empires, AD 900-1400 provides a flow of history throughout the medieval world from 900 to 1400 AD, describing the ebbs and flows of empires as the western world recovered from the dark ages. As a point of reference, author Will Slatyer presents the empires in Asia in the same timeframes as European empires, illustrating patterns of similarity among these empires. War remained important to leaders of the emerging nation and states as a primary method of gaining territory and expanding their influence. Meanwhile, the Church of Rome endeavoured to gain control of Europe secularly and spiritually, often using the spread of Islam as an excuse for its widening span of control. Islam was advanced spectacularly by the Arabs, but lost much impetus when leaders of other ethnicities took control; even so, it continued to spread throughout the world. Coinage again came into use during this period after the lapse of the usage of precious metals as compensation during the dark ages. Trade grew particularly when spices from the Orient were introduced in Europe, because they were so attractive in an age without refrigeration. As city-states became more civilised, textiles for clothing came into strong demand. International trade encouraged banking based upon models introduced by the Knights Templar. Ebbs and Flows of Medieval Empires, AD 900-1400 shows that human fear and greed demonstrated in ancient times, continued with medieval leaders, including popes, leading the way to the more capitalist enterprise of the Renaissance after 1400 AD.

Book excerpt: DISMANTLING GLOBAL HINDHUPHOBIA The attacks on the Religion of this land and its related and linked civilizational identity is on the rise from different quarters not only in India but across the world. All the current conflict trigger points work at different levels and are operated by a mix of different interest groups, but the end goal is to ring fence the religion called Hinduism and to make it fit the Western / Eurocentric framework of Religion; else it needs to be dismantled. This book is an attempt to give a fresh Indic perspective to the religion of this land. Hence the book is titled ‘The Third Eye’ - a new vision to view Bharat; a vision that does not get confined to a right or left or centric view point. It sits above all these views; it is ‘The Third Eye’. It also symbolically represents Shiva’s third eye, the opening of which burns everything; the attempt is to burn the current narrative with the third eye so that we get to see / create a new vision of Bharat.

High points of this book reviews ports in Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and India, all in the Far East. We then journeyed to Oman and Jordan, visiting al-Aqabah and Petra. We then journeyed through the Suez Canal to Italy, Corsica, then to ports in Spain, to Southhampton, England, and finally to the city of Rotterdam, where we had first begun the journey. As in Volume 1, I review the history of each stopping point, reflecting on its unique culture and people, while visiting local sights of wonder. This journey was for me as a kind of vast exploration of the world, a way to share this time with others. I hope I've done justice to the experience. It changed my outlook in life as I ponder the vastness of humanity across the span of a vast territory.
