Book Synopsis Vincent and Pablo: The Revised Version by : Tony Warner
Download or read book Vincent and Pablo: The Revised Version written by Tony Warner and published by Troubador Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many books that chart the life of Vincent van Gogh and Picasso, but there are very few that discuss their early personal life. Vincent and Pablo: The Revised Version is a romantic fiction that explores what might have happened if both artists had arrived in London, as they both intended, at the same time. In 1873, Vincent van Gogh was sent to London as a gallery assistant for Goupil and Co. He lived in Brixton and preached in a local church. Gradually, he became disillusioned with art dealing and unhappy in his personal life. He was recalled to Paris, giving up art dealing for the church and then for art itself. If he had stayed in London, his passion for art, and his personal life, may have concluded very differently. In 1900, Pablo Picasso set off from Barcelona to travel London via Paris. After a short stay in Paris, the terrible weather and personal difficulties forced him to return to Barcelona, if Picasso had made it to London and van Gogh had stayed, could they have both established a friendship? Would their art be different from the masterpieces that followed? Tony Warner believes that Lust for Life by Irving Stone, about van Gogh, is one of the best-known books in the artistic sphere. He hopes to recreate the writing style of Graham Greene and Pat Barker, both of whom have a way of a telling a story without overburdening it with metaphysics or allegory. This book will be enjoyed by readers of historical fiction, especially those with an interest in art and romance.

Book Synopsis Polycentric Governance and the Good Society by : David Thunder
Download or read book Polycentric Governance and the Good Society written by David Thunder and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2024-08-22 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polycentric Governance and the Good Society: A Normative and Philosophical Investigation offers an examination of the idea of polycentric governance as one of the pillars of a flourishing human society. Rather than following the conventional path of suppressing complexity and diversity for the sake of reaching agreement on justice and political stability, David Thunder and Pablo Paniagua see complexity and diversity as assets that should be leveraged to make the "Open Society" a more prosperous, resilient, and flourishing place to live. Polycentric Governance and the Good Society provides valuable food for thought for academics and students looking for a probing, cross-disciplinary discussion of the ethos and institutions of liberal democracy under conditions of social pluralism. Although the volume includes diverse disciplinary lenses, such as public choice theory, MacIntyrean social theory, and constitutional law, the driving concern is to exhibit the potential advantages of polycentric approaches to governance and social coordination for constructing a feasible and morally attractive social order. This is the first extended academic work to explore in depth the advantages, not only from an economic and organizational standpoint but also from a broader ethical, sociological, and anthropological perspective, of polycentric governance arrangements.

This is an important book on a previously undocumented area of musical theatre."" -- Peter Pinne, Stage Whispers ""There's never been a better book for the armchair-traveler-theatergoer."" -- Peter Filichia

Book Synopsis Handbook of Discrete and Computational Geometry by : Csaba D. Toth
Download or read book Handbook of Discrete and Computational Geometry written by Csaba D. Toth and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 1928 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Discrete and Computational Geometry is intended as a reference book fully accessible to nonspecialists as well as specialists, covering all major aspects of both fields. The book offers the most important results and methods in discrete and computational geometry to those who use them in their work, both in the academic world—as researchers in mathematics and computer science—and in the professional world—as practitioners in fields as diverse as operations research, molecular biology, and robotics. Discrete geometry has contributed significantly to the growth of discrete mathematics in recent years. This has been fueled partly by the advent of powerful computers and by the recent explosion of activity in the relatively young field of computational geometry. This synthesis between discrete and computational geometry lies at the heart of this Handbook. A growing list of application fields includes combinatorial optimization, computer-aided design, computer graphics, crystallography, data analysis, error-correcting codes, geographic information systems, motion planning, operations research, pattern recognition, robotics, solid modeling, and tomography.

Book Synopsis What Your Second Grader Needs to Know by : E.D. Hirsch, Jr.
Download or read book What Your Second Grader Needs to Know written by E.D. Hirsch, Jr. and published by Delta. This book was released on 2009-07-29 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Introduction: "What kind of knowledge and skills can your child be expected to learn in second grade at school? How can you help your child at home? These are questions that we try to answer in this book. It presents the sort of knowledge and skills—in literature, reading and writing, history and geography, visual arts, music, mathematics, and science—that should be at the core of a challenging second-grade education. Because children and localities differ greatly across this big, diverse country, so do second-grade classrooms. But all communities, including classrooms, require some common ground for communication and learning. In this book we present the specific shared knowledge that hundreds of parents and teachers across the nation have agreed upon for American second graders. This core is not a comprehensive prescription for everything that every second grader needs to know. Such a complete prescription would be rigid and undesirable. But the book does offer a solid common ground that will enable young students to become active, successful learners in their classroom community and later in the larger communities we live in—town, state, nation, and world." BONUS: This edition includes an excerpt from What Your Third Grader Needs to Know.
Download or read book Images written by Paul Roberts and published by Hal Leonard Corporation. This book was released on 2001 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paris at the turn of the 20th century was obsessed with the interrelations of the arts. It was a time when artists and writers spoke of poetry as music, sounds as colors, and paintings as symphonies. The music of Claude Debussy, with its unique textures and dazzling colors, was the perfect counterpart to the bold new styles of painting in France. Paul Roberts probes the sources of Debussy's artistic inspiration, relating the "impressionist" titles to the artistic and literary ferment of the time. He also draws on his own performing experience to touch on all the principal technical problems for a performer of Debussy's piano music. His many suggestions about interpreting the music will be particularly valuable to performers as well as listeners.
